1 Village of Stirling ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMUNITY PROFILE
2 1 Welcome to the Village of Stirling The Village of Stirling is nestled between Lethbridge and Waterton in the heart of southern Alberta. While it is a village of just over 1,000 people, its small population lends itself to a friendly, welcoming attitude expressed by everyone. Tourists are always welcome, and there is not a shortage of things to do in Stirling. Being thirty minutes away from Lethbridge, Stirling offers easy accessibility to all major amenities and even more fantastic Alberta tourism destinations. Stirling is located in Warner County and is relatively close to the communities of Raymond, Magrath, and Warner. The Village of Stirling, a National Historic Site by Parks Canada, is one of the last surviving and best preserved Canadian examples of early 20th-century Mormon settlement patterns. Also known as a Mormon Agricultural Village or the Plat of Zion, the streets are wide and lots are large farmstead lots with barns. Road Travel Distances Distance Stirling to: Kilometers Miles Calgary Edmonton Lethbridge Medicine Hat US border at Coutts Waterton National Park
3 2 Climate The Village of Stirling is in a region that has more days of bright sunshine than anywhere else in Canada. Winters are cool but are moderated by warm chinook winds blowing from the west coast. Average: J F M A M J J A S O N D Temperature o C High temperature Low temperature Precipitation (mm) Economic Indicators Stirling's surrounding economic base is the agriculture industry. Stirling is surrounded by rich farmland that produces typical crops for the area such as, corn, potatoes, sugar beets, peas, wheat, flax, barley, canola, etc. Within Stirling, there are a large number of residents that operate small businesses and different consulting companies out of their homes. Due to Stirling s rich history, nearby attractions, and National Historic Site designation, tourism is another important industry for this community. Stirling is part of the self-guided driving tour in Southern Alberta known as the Mormon Trail. Magrath, Cardston, and Raymond are the other communities along the Mormon Trail. Attractions within Stirling include the Michelson Farmstead, Galt Historic Railway Park, Haunted Ogden Mansion, as well as a number of historic homes. The Village layout is based on the Plat of Zion layout, which is prominent in Mormon founded communities. Each plot in the village had room for a home, garden, animals, and barns. This concept ensured families stayed close together and everything they needed was close at hand.
4 3 Available Land Lot sizes are relatively large in comparison with other small communities in Southern Alberta. Because this Mormonfounded community was built based on the concept of the Plat of Zion, the streets are wide and in a grid pattern. All subdivisions are processed by Oldman River Regional Services Commission (ORRSC). They are located in Lethbridge at: th Avenue North Phone: (403) Toll-free phone: Fax: (403) admin@orrsc.com The average selling price for homes in Stirling over the past two years has been $184,857.
