5 73rd ANNUAL MEETING Minutes of the Second General Body Meeting The Second General Body Meeting of the Association of Physicians of India was held on 28th January 2017 at Mumbai. As the quorum was not complete, the meeting was adjourned. The adjourned meeting was reconvened after 15 minutes President Dr. B. R. The copy of the minutes of the 72 nd Annual General Body meeting held on 26 th January 2017 was circulated to the present members and the same were passed, proposed by Dr. Ashok Taneja and Seconded by Dr. G. Narasimulu. 5

Organising Chairman APICON 2017 Dr. Siddharth Shah informed that Scientific Program contents were appreciated by all; he thanked all the members for their support. Dr. YP Munjal pointed out that Dr. Mahesh Marda raised the issue of Electronic Ballot, his request will need a constitutional amendment which has to come first to Governing Body and then to the General Body as per the Constitution. Dr. A. K. Das and other members appreciated the arrangements and services rendered by the Organizing Committee specially Dr. Siddharth Shah and Dr. Shashank R. Joshi. He pointed out that the scientific program was excellent in time frame and all the three books were received before they reached to APICON. Dr. Pritam Gupta informed that MCQs books are ready at USV stall and every one can collect from there. President Dr. BR Bansode informed that this is the first time MCQs were tried and every PG student s needs various CMEs and MCQs etc. The Medicine Update book is very popular amongst the PG students. It was planned to start MCQs from API along with the other three books. Dr. Jayanta Panda is the first who took charge for assisting these MCQs book. Dr. YP Munjal and other members complemented President Dr. BR Bansode, Chairman Scientific Committee and Dr. Jayanta Panda for motivating for the benefits to the PG students for their examination for going abroad. President Dr. BR Bansode informed that the scientific program basic frame work was supported by Dr. Siddharth Shah and the Scientific Committee consisting of Drs. Amit Sharaf, Vikram Londhey, Trupti Trivedi, Nihar Mehta and Deepak Jumani. All these members worked hard, day and night and during scientific program and they were present for the whole day in all the halls. Dr. Siddharth Shah congratulated President - Dr. BR Bansode and Dean, Dr. A. Muruganathan for their excellent work. Members congratulated President Dr. BR Bansode, Dr. Siddharth Shah and Dr. Shashank Joshi for the wonderful scientific feast. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks to the chair. Dr. B.R. General Secretary Dr. Mangesh Tiwaskar informed the members that awards are being given to best chapter / branches and Membership Development Award for the good work. Awards were given by the president Dr. G S Wander. Dr. Jivraj Mehta Award 2016 awarded to Dr. K. S. Chugh Chandigarh and Dr. Shyam Sundar Varanasi Gifted Teacher Award 2016 Awarded to Dr. A. R. Sircar Lucknow Distinguished Member Award 2016 awarded to Dr. Sharad Shah Mumbai 1 st prize Best State Chapter awarded to API Himachal Pradesh State Chapter 2 nd prize best Chapter Awarded to API Kerala Chapter 1 st prize Best City Branch awarded to API Mysuru Branch 2 nd prize Best Branch city awarded to API Karimnagar Branch 9

Chandrasekaran, Org. Secretary APICON 2018 Bangalore. The dates of the APICON 2018 will be 22 nd to 25 th February 2018 and he has invited all the members to APICON 2018 For APICON 2019 FIVE nomination were received by the office for APICON 2019 out of which Ahmadabad and Jaipur withdrew their bidding on the request of the President Dr. GS Wander with the hope that APICON 2020 will be allotted to one of them. The rest AGRA, KOCHI & LUCKNOW biddings were put to the GB on 26 th January 2017 and the conference was allotted to KOCHI by hand voting 9. Appointment of Auditors for the year and fix their remuneration. The same auditors M/s. Hari Bhakti & Co., were re-appointed and their remuneration was fixed Rs. TWO lakh only as auditing fees and professional fees Rs. 35,000/- this was passed Proposed by Dr. Siddharth N. Shah and Seconded by Dr. Shashank Joshi. 10. Any other business that may be brought before the meeting with the permission of the chair. One of the members Dr. Mahesh Marda raised the issue of Electronic Ballot and President Dr. GS Wander said that this was deliberated and discussed previously in the past and if necessary will be re-deliberated in the Governing Body. 11. Time was strictly followed. 700 total poster and oral papers have been selected. Out of this 200 papers were selected as platform poster presentation. 1 st and 2 nd prizes for oral and poster presentation were given. This prize money is from the interest money from APICON 2014 Ludhiana original paper merit award. More than 100 prizes for poster presentation and 20 prizes for oral presentation were awarded. There were 10 workshops viz; 2D echo workshop with live demonstration for full day was organized Rest all the workshops were for 3 hrs durations. Huge numbers of delegates got registered for the workshops. The Medicine update book was made available. All the delegates received the books before the conference. This effort was widely appreciated by all the delegates. We just finished a series on Statistics in Medicine. This series had 15 articles, last being published in October 2017 issue of JAPI. In next 2-3 months we are starting a new series on `Ethics in Research. The editorial board of JAPI has selected three referees for Dr. V.R. Physicians Research Foundation Board of Directors Meetings During the financial year a total of 3 meeting were held by Board of Directors of PRF at the following location: Two meeting at Powai, Mumbai, during APICON 2017 and one held at Hotel Shangri La, Bengaluru, Karnataka on 9 th September During the PRF meeting held in Poway, Mumbai during APICON 2017, our Director, Dr. YP Munjal welcomed the newly elected PRF members: Dr. Shyam Sundar and Dr. JK Mitra with a memento. Dr. YP Munjal also announced and released the two newly launched publication of PRF to the PRF board members. The First publication was a monograph on Pearls of Scientific Paper Writing a multi-authored book edited by Dr. YP Munjal, Dr. Anupam Prakash and Dr. Ghanshyam Pangtey. The second publication was of Guidelines on extra-pulmonary tuberculosis for India INDEX-TB GUIDELINES by Dr. SK Sharma, New Delhi. All the members applauded the PRF effort and congratulated the Director PRF and the editorial board team for the successful launch. The 3 rd PRF Board of Directors meeting of 2017 was held at Hotel Shangri La, Bengaluru, Karnataka on 9th September 2017 at 20:00 to 20:30 Hrs. During 24

25 73rd ANNUAL MEETING the meeting various monetary contributions made by various API bodies and in individual capacity were acknowledged by the PRF Board. The various contributions made were by the following API members: The PRF executive members Dr. Sumatra Ghosh and Dr. AK Mukherjee and API member Dr. Jyotirmay Pal donated Rs. 1 lac to PRF from their API Kolkata chapter conference and PRF workshop Dr. Shekhar Chakraborty and Siliguri API Chapter contributed Rs. 1 Lac to the PRF fund. Dr. Jayant Panda, Organising Secretary, RSSDI Bhubaneswar 2017 and API Odissa chapter contributed Rs. 1 Lac to the PRF Fund. Dr. J Mitra, PRF executive member and Jhararkhand API also contributed Rs. 35,000 to the PRF fund. Dr. A Muruganathan donated Rs. 30 lac to PRF fund from 1 st day of APICON 2017 CME fund. He also requested the PRF governing body to consider his request for giving annual Research Grant for Cardiac Research in the name of his late father Thiru CS Arumugam. The governing body accepted the grant and also thanked Dr. A Muruganathan for the kind gesture. It was decided that the naming of the cardiac research fund on his father name would be decided once the fund is received. The PRF governing body passed vote of thanks to all the above API members for various financial contribution made to PRF Fund from their local funds and individual capacity. During the meeting API President Elect Dr. Pritam Gupta announced the results of recently held API-ICP-PRF Election results: Dr. Siddharth N. Shah was selected unopposed as next PRF Director from year Dr. AK Mukherjee, was re-elected while Dr. MM Mehndiratta won the executive member election, held for two executive members seats. 3. PHYSICIANS RESEARCH FOUNDATIONS: ACTIVITIES a. Physicians Research Foundation Research Grant The Physicians Research Foundation (PRF) invited applications from the API members who are interested in conducting research studies in the area of Medicine and its Subspecialties. The grants were widely advertised to all members by regular advertisements in the JAPI Journals, PRF website ( as well during the governing body/ annual API meetings. The received Research projects were evaluated by expert panel of PRF/API and also discussed in Board of Directors meeting and the final decision was made after thorough analysis. The two-thesis grants, from SMS Jaipur and RG Kar Medical College and Hospital were selected during the 2016 PRF meetings. They were given first 25

26 THE ASSOCIATON OF PHYSICIANS OF INDIA installment of their grant after receiving the undertaking and acceptance letter. Many Research projects were received for PRF Grant since last meeting in The single center study by Dr. NP Singh (Delhi) on Chronic Kidney Disease and Associated Risk Factors among Auto-Rickshaw Drivers from Delhi NCR of India and another study by Dr. Vishal Sharma (PGIMER, Chandigarh) on Utility of serial measurements of faecal calprotectin in assessing response to therapy in patients with probable intestinal tuberculosis was accepted for PRF Research Grant. The other Thesis and single centre research grant are under scrutiny and under review by experts. The final decision about grant release will be made shortly after receiving comments from experts. b. PRF Website The PRF Website was launched during 2 nd PRF Board of Directors meeting in Chandigarh on 10 th April The website is active since then with more then 1000 hits since its inception. The website has been updated periodically and all the Recent News on PRF Research Grants, PRF Workshop on Research and publication writing as well as Thesis repository are continuously upgraded. The Thesis repository with thesis candidate, Supervisor and Co-supervisors has been put up in PDF formats and all API Members and PRF members has been requested to put up their students thesis on website to improve their research visibility. The Thesis/ dissertations names will be registered under Google scholar and index Copernicus and very soon these Thesis and their writer can get recognition from the Google scholar as well as index Copernicus site. c. Physicians Research and Publication Workshops PRF organized two highly successful and well-appreciated research workshops in year 2016 and continued to disseminate the research by organizing another similar workshop in south India, Hyderabad. PRF successfully organized its 3 rd Research and Publication workshop in collaboration with API Hyderabad chapter from 26 th -27 th August 2017 at Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. Dr. Rakesh Sahay, Dr. Udai Lal and Dr. Narsimulu were instrumental in providing the local support. Dr. Anupam Prakash, Dr. GS Pangtey and Dr. Ashish Goel from Delhi participated as Faculty. The workshop was well appreciated by all the participating delegates similar to previous editions. The workshop participants were given study material and also participated in one to one interactive webcast with faculty of worldrenowned John Hopkins school of public Health, Baltimore, United States of America. 26

27 d. MMM study participation 73rd ANNUAL MEETING PRF along with API and ICMR actively participated in May Measurement Month (MMM) study. PRF contributed in screening > hypertensive patients. Dr. K Tewary, Dr. GS Wander, Dr. YP Munjal, Dr. BB Thakur, Dr. JK Mitra, Dr. CL Naval, Dr. Jai Bhagwan, Dr. GS Pangtey, etc. did the major contribution. The participation certificate will be issued by ICMR to all participants. e. HSICON Best Free Paper Award: This year in 2017 PRF funded Best Free Paper award of Rs. 10,000 in recently held HSICON 2017, at Kolkata. In PRF board meeting it was decided that it should be made an annual Award funded by PRF to promote research among young scientist. 4. FORTHCOMING PRF Activities in PRF Monograph on Handbook of Research Methodology : After the highly acclaimed launch of book Handbook of paper writing during last year Mumbai, APICON The PRF is planning to release another monograph Handbook of Research Methodology during Bengaluru, APICON PRF Best Abstract Award during APICON 2018, Bengaluru: PRF has selected 3 Best Abstract from the various abstract submitted for APICON The Award will be given after oral presentation of the abstract during the API- CON Conference. 3. Health assessment Study: PRF is in planning to start a study on the quality of life and health assessment of doctors in India. The study is in final stages of its draft. 4.
