As one of the pioneers of corporate philanthropy in Australia, Macquarie has provided support to community programs for more than 30 years. It does so in the simple belief that a company is a member of the society in which it operates and it follows that one of its important duties is to work for the betterment of that community. Whether we act as individuals, in government or in business, we all have a role to play in building our social capital. A company is a member of the society in which it operates, so it follows that one of its important duties is to work for the betterment of that community. This founding philosophy was formalised in 1984, with the establishment of the Macquarie Bank Foundation. Each year, the Foundation is allocated funds based on a formula determined by Macquarie Bank s annual profit. This figure has grown consistently, with the Foundation currently contributing more than $2.5 million a year in community grants to about 200 organisations. We focus our resources on the core areas of education, health care and research, welfare, the environment and the arts. Within these areas, we look for opportunities that are innovative, genuinely responsive to the community s needs and that also enable us to contribute our time and expertise, as well as our financial support. As Macquarie expands, we aim to broaden the scope of these efforts to all communities in which we have a presence. Over the past year, we have significantly increased our support internationally, assisting programs in communities where our offshore staff have identified a need.

An important part of the Foundation s approach is our support of Macquarie staff pursuing their own community interests and passions was a year in which the Macquarie Bank Foundation consolidated its relationships with Australian community organisations, extended the scope of its international activities and enhanced staff involvement in the programs we support. This report highlights some of the initiatives we have been able to assist in the past year. An important part of the Foundation s approach is our support of Macquarie staff pursuing their own community interests and passions. This provides benefits for both staff and community organisations and encourages individual involvement at a grass roots level. This involvement is invaluable in shaping an effective partnership between the Foundation and the communities it supports and we encourage it in a number of ways. Each year, we recognise outstanding staff contributions to the community through our Volunteer of the Year Awards. We also supplement the fundraising efforts of our staff, contributing an additional $400,000 a year to a range of organisations supported by our employees. In 2003, two staff members John M.Green and Sheryl Weil were appointed to the Macquarie Bank Foundation Board, taking an active role in the approval of community grants. A bankwide Community Advisory Committee was established, offering staff input on Macquarie s community role and linking staff with community organisations. A London Community Advisory Committee was also formed to assist the Foundation s international activities. Another recent initiative, Macquarie Giving, enables staff to regularly contribute to charities of their choice directly from their monthly pay. Macquarie is one of the first Australian companies to introduce payroll giving and it has been enthusiastically supported by staff. These initiatives ensure that Macquarie s community involvement extends well beyond the work of the Macquarie Bank Foundation. Both the Foundation and our staff work with some truly inspiring community organisations throughout Australia and internationally. In this report we are pleased to highlight just some of these activities. Macquarie Bank Foundation Board David Clarke, AO Executive Chairman Macquarie Bank Hon. 7 MACQUARIE BANK S DEDICATION TO SUPPORTING COMMUNITY PROGRAMS WILL HAVE A LASTING EFFECT ON THE LIVES OF MANY CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE... IT IS THESE KINDS OF INITIATIVES THAT WILL HELP TO BUILD A MORE PROSPEROUS, HARMONIOUS AND HUMANE AUSTRALIAN COMMUNITY. THE HON LARRY ANTHONY MP MINISTER FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH AFFAIRS
Macquarie people In their community contributions, Macquarie staff give of their time and expertise,as well as their money. Grant Hodgetts Every year, the Royal Flying Doctor Service holds an outback car trek to raise money for the vital aerial medical services it provides to Australia s regional and remote communities. Grant Hodgetts, an equity specialist with our Banking and Property Group, puts on his mechanic s hat and helps out on the support crew. With no car under 30 years old, Grant spends most of his time under the bonnet making repairs. He helps in other ways too in this year s Forbes to Yeppoon rally, his team raised the most money of any support vehicle. Brenda Owen Each month, Macquarie s Brisbane Banking team of 27 people holds a small fundraising event for a Queensland charity. Over the year, organiser Brenda Owen has persuaded staff to wear loud shirts to help hearing impaired children at Mater Children s Hospital, walk across Brisbane for abandoned and unwanted animals and raise money for surf life saving, the Queensland Cancer Fund and a range of other organisations. Brenda s next major project is to organise a car rally for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation. Anna Skarbek Anna, a Melbourne Investment Banking Group executive, was part of a team of legal volunteers who successfully lobbied for legislation allowing Victorian restaurants and catering companies to donate leftover food to the needy without undue legal risk. Anna worked on this project on behalf of goodcompany, which brings together young professionals to donate their services to community and charity organisations. She is also the Victorian President of Amnesty International, playing a key role in the organisation s ongoing strategy. Anna was named a 2002 Macquarie Volunteer of the Year, in recognition of these contributions. Guy Reynolds Guy Reynolds, an Executive Director with our Treasury and Commodities Group, was named a Macquarie Volunteer of the Year in 2002 for his extensive fundraising work. One of the major beneficiaries of his efforts is Woods Cottage, a supervised group home for young adults with intellectual disabilities. Guy also helped organise the 2002 Allan Border Trek for Kids from Sydney to Brisbane, which raised money for sick and disadvantaged children, and has built a program of Macquarie sports camps offering children the chance to receive coaching from national sporting identities in rugby union, rugby league, cricket and netball. Robert Mead For several years, Robert Mead, from Macquarie s Financial Services Group in Melbourne, has ridden the 528 kilometres from Echuca to Port Fairy in Victoria as part of the Murray to Moyne Charity Bike Ride. More than 2000 riders take part each year, some riding the whole distance, others operating in relay teams. In 2003, Robert raised funds, with the support of colleagues and the Macquarie Bank Foundation, for the Mulleraterong Centre for people with disabilities and the Harrow Bush Nursing Service for isolated communities, both based in Victoria. Chris Breach Chris, a Division Director with our Banking and Property Group, is the champion of payroll giving in Australia. Chairman of the Charities Aid Foundation in Australia, which administers corporate payroll giving schemes, Chris and his team lobbied the Australian Tax Office to allow employees to make regular donations to charities directly from their pre-tax pay. Payroll giving enables charities to plan for the future by providing them with a regular income. Since being approved in July 2002, numerous Australian companies, including Macquarie, have introduced payroll giving schemes. Chris was highly commended in Macquarie s Volunteer of the Year Awards in 2002.

International To know we are not alone in our daily labour helps us make a bigger effort, allowing us to continue fighting to give our children a little hope for their future. Manuela Rosa Aragon, Headmistress, Nuestra Senora del Rosario, Argentina Argentina Working overseas, Macquarie s staff are often exposed to social and economic issues they don t encounter in Australia. In many of these communities, they work to counter malnutrition, extreme poverty and the lack of basic services many of us take for granted. For several years, Gonzalo Ramirez, who works for the Macquarie Agricultural Commodities business in Argentina, has been raising money for the Nuestra Senora del Rosario public school and orphanage in Buenos Aires. The school s children come from very poor backgrounds, so staff seek to give them not only an education, but food, clothing, social assistance, psychological support and employment training. Through donations from friends, discounts from Argentinian food company, Molinos, and support from American Express, Gonzalo has been able to raise enough money each month to provide breakfast, lunch and supper to the 520 children at the school, who often don t have food at home. The money also sometimes pays for shoes, so the children can walk to school. Often, these simple needs can be the difference between a parent sending their child to school or keeping them at home. But Argentina s worsening economic situation meant more help was needed. So New York-based Agricultural Commodities trader Antony Isles approached Macquarie businesses and clients for funds, raising money from 26 different groups across five continents. With a supporting donation from the Macquarie Bank Foundation, Antony s efforts will ensure the school children continue to receive food, clothing and educational assistance. London Macquarie s London office, with funding assistance from the Macquarie Bank Foundation, has entered a partnership with The Prince s Trust, the United Kingdom s leading charity for young people, to help budding entrepreneurs set up their own business. The partnership will provide low interest start-up loans to unemployed or under-employed people aged between 18 and 30, who have a good business idea and business plan but have been denied bank funding. The successful applicants also receive ongoing business mentoring as their venture grows. Established by HRH Prince Charles in 1977, The Prince s Trust has helped more than 50,000 young people start their own business, some of which have become multi-million dollar concerns. South Africa David Bavin, Matthew Brownie, Ben Ferlazzo, Peter Schleiss and Michael Gallagher work in Macquarie s Equity Markets business in Johannesburg. Struck by the hardship in many South African communities, they donated a percentage of their bonuses to four charities focused on improving education opportunities for disadvantaged children. The funds will build classroom and dormitory facilities and provide education and vocational training skills to children in some of the poorest areas of South Africa. Staff also contributed to the AIDS Foundation of South Africa, acknowledging the crippling effect of the disease in a country where 25 per cent of the population is infected with the HIV virus or AIDS. David says: Living here and seeing the imbalances, it s impossible to sit back and do nothing to help. Philippines Twelve years after the eruption of Mount Pinatubo, many displaced Filipino villagers continue to live in abject poverty, with high levels of malnutrition. At several schools in the area, local businesses fund lunch programs to boost attendance, for without the incentive of food, many parents choose to send their children to work rather than school. Through a client, Macquarie Agricultural Commodities colleagues Peter Thomas, Linda Evans and Sebastian Barrack heard of one such scheme at the Kanaynayan Community Resettlement School and donated money to its lunch program. With a supporting donation from the Macquarie Bank Foundation, the funds will feed the children at the school for a year.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
A PRIZE HEAD AND SHOULDERS ABOVE THE REST Lisa Roet Political Ape Winning the National Sculpture Prize has greatly lifted my profile as an artist and enabled a greater exposure of my sculpture to the Australian public and arts community. Lisa Roet, winner of the 2003 National Sculpture Prize
Arts Anna Eggert Tessa, Ebony, Kelsey 2002 Terry Summers Waiting Room 2002 National Gallery of Victoria The National Gallery of Victoria is the country s only major gallery dedicated solely to Australian art. Macquarie has long been committed to encouraging, fostering and showcasing contemporary Australian talent. In 2003, the two organisations joined forces, entering a three-year partnership to profile contemporary art in a dedicated space at the Gallery s Federation Square premises in Melbourne. The Macquarie Bank Contemporary Projects Gallery presents contemporary art in all its manifestations, featuring solo or group exhibitions by artists from Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Pacific region. National Sculpture Prize and Exhibition The second National Sculpture Prize and Exhibition in 2003 attracted a record 520 entries, confirming the diversity and depth of talent in Australian sculpture. Melbourne artist Lisa Roet won for her work Political Ape, which featured the bronze busts of seven chimpanzees, while Queensland pensioner Terry Summers won the People s Choice award for his confronting work, Waiting Room, featuring cardboard figures enclosed in a compound. Queensland Opera Young Artists Program Macquarie has had a long involvement with Opera Queensland, both through our Brisbane office and the Macquarie Bank Foundation. In particular, we support the Young Artists Program, designed to help singers and conductors develop their skills to a professional level, in particular focusing on the skills necessary for a career in opera. Under the scholarship, each artist is assessed to ascertain their strengths and weaknesses and an individual program is developed with specific goals set for them. Many artists who have gone through the program have gone on to national and international success. Each year, Macquarie supports one young artist in the program. The National Sculpture Prize and Exhibition was established as a partnership between Macquarie Bank and the National Gallery of Australia to support and promote sculpture, which was until recent years the bridesmaid of Australian art. It was structured to encourage innovation and diversity in the entries, with no restrictions in terms of the subjects chosen or the materials and technologies used. Among the works that reached the 2003 finals was a helicopter made from beer cans and emu feet and a sculpture of the Statue of Liberty that evaporated as a gas over a period of 12 hours. In just a few years, the National Sculpture Prize and Exhibition has succeeded in giving the art form a new prominence. It has created a vehicle for emerging sculptors and helped more established artists achieve international recognition for their work. It has also encouraged a number of other lucrative prizes, further expanding the scope and dimension of Australian sculpture. In addition to being exhibited in the National Gallery of Australia, many of the finalists works have toured Macquarie s offices for public exhibition in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. NIDA The National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney is Australia s centre of excellence in training for theatre, film and television, with graduates including international stars such as Mel Gibson, Cate Blanchett and Baz Luhrmann. In recent years, NIDA has significantly upgraded its premises and facilities, which had become outdated and, in some cases, unsafe. The Macquarie Bank Foundation contributed to NIDA s Stage II development, which included construction of new theatres, studio facilities, rehearsal rooms and a library. The new facilities will be available to NIDA students, as well as young directors, producers and performers who can t afford professional theatre space.
Welfare Mirabel Foundation As a drug and alcohol counsellor, Jane Rowe saw many children orphaned or abandoned through the illicit drug use of their parents. She also saw how little assistance there was for them. Five years ago, she established the Mirabel Foundation in Victoria, to help children orphaned by overdose and the relatives, mostly grandparents, who often end up caring for them. The options facing these children are bleak. Many have experienced a life of instability and suffered physical or emotional neglect. Some have been abandoned by parents unable to adequately care for them. Some have seen their parents overdose and die. For some, the loss is compounded by being separated from siblings and placed in foster care. Many suffer post-traumatic stress as a result of what they have experienced in their young lives. Others feel rejection or blame themselves for their parents plight. Many are at a higher risk of attempting suicide or using drugs themselves. Layne Beachley s Aim for the Stars Foundation Shortly after becoming world surfing champion for the fifth consecutive year, Layne Beachley established the Aim for the Stars Foundation, to encourage Australian girls and women to strive for their goals. Aim for the Stars provides annual grants to individuals and groups pursuing cultural, academic, sporting or community projects. Layne got the idea when she flew to Western Australia to help a young girl raise money for a study trip to Indonesia and decided she wanted to extend her support further. The Macquarie Bank Foundation contributes financially to Aim for the Stars, while Treasury and Commodities Executive Director Guy Reynolds serves on the board. As the only organisation in Australia that specifically cares for this group of vulnerable children, Mirabel aims to prevent these problems manifesting over the longer term. It provides a range of services, including counselling and therapy, education, support groups, financial aid, holiday camps to reunite siblings and play groups to bring together children with shared experiences. In 2003, Mirabel established services in New South Wales. The Macquarie Bank Foundation and Macquarie Equities is contributing three years funding to the organisation, while Macquarie Equities Executive Director Peter Curry also serves on Mirabel s NSW Steering Committee. Disabled services Macquarie s staff in Western Australia support a range of organisations that provide opportunities for the disabled. Two such groups are Riding for the Disabled and Sailability WA, which give disabled people of all ages access to safe recreational pursuits. Both organisations offer a range of services, from introductory lessons to programs for more experienced participants. Sailability WA, run through the Royal Perth Yacht Club, has a program for aspiring Paralympians and boasts three gold medallists from the Sydney 2000 Paralympics. The Macquarie Bank Foundation has provided funds to both organisations to enable them to extend their services to more people. Financial Markets Foundation for Children Thirteen years ago, the Australian financial community established its own charity to improve the health and welfare of children. The Financial Markets Foundation for Children supports innovative medical research projects, having funded studies into obesity in primary school aged children, the treatment of stuttering in older children, asthma in the community, and the effects of post-natal depression on childhood development. Macquarie staff actively participate in the Foundation s principle fundraising event, the annual Work-A-Day 4 Kids, while the Macquarie Bank Foundation has a 10-year funding commitment to the Financial Markets Foundation for Children.

Education Urban Seed The Reverend Tim Costello formed Urban Seed eight years ago to work with marginalised people in Melbourne s CBD. As well as providing food and support for up to 100 disadvantaged people a day, it seeks to educate the public about social issues such as homelessness, drug addiction, problem gambling and poverty. One of its programs, Melbourne Walks, introduces business leaders and school groups to Melbourne s back lanes and the social challenges they present. In 2003, Urban Seed significantly expanded its services with the establishment of an urban classroom in the city centre. Called The Den, the classroom will provide vocational training to Melbourne s homeless and unemployed, in employment growth areas such as information technology, hospitality and environmental studies. It will also house Urban Seed s secondary school seminars program, which educates young people about current social issues, with the aim of minimising the risk of them ending up on the streets. Bundanon In 1993, Arthur Boyd and his wife Yvonne gifted their Bundanon and Riversdale properties to the nation, along with a vast collection of artworks by four generations of the Boyd family. Bundanon now operates as a living arts centre, with programs for artists in residence, school students and the general public. The Macquarie Bank Foundation has contributed to Bundanon s Adopt a School program, which enables students from disadvantaged government schools to participate in an intensive threeday creative arts program. Foundation director Warwick Smith also serves as Chairman of the Bundanon Trust and Macquarie staff have provided pro bono services to the organisation. Macquarie s involvement in The Den was driven by Executive Director Simon McKeon, who saw an opportunity to provide not only financial support but to involve staff, based in the heart of the CBD, in the work of Urban Seed. The Macquarie Bank Foundation and a number of Melbourne staff contributed to the capital cost of establishing the classroom, while staff also volunteer at The Den and other Urban Seed facilities, providing financial advice, serving food and acting as mentors to youth who use the services. University of Technology Community Management Program Australia has one of the world s most active not-for-profit sectors, equivalent in size, per capita, to the United States, and larger than the United Kingdom s. In recent years, the sector has become increasingly more sophisticated, with greater demands and expectations placed on organisations within it. For several years, the Macquarie Bank Foundation has funded the Community Management Program at Sydney s University of Technology, which provides financial management training to not-for-profit sector employees. The University offers postgraduate courses at the certificate, diploma and master s levels. Indigenous cadetships Emerging indigenous filmmakers will be awarded one-year scholarships at the Australian Film Television and Radio School in Sydney, under a program funded by the Macquarie Bank Foundation. Each year, a director, producer and scriptwriter will be awarded a scholarship, covering their relocation costs and their first year at the school. Macquarie Bank also offers an indigenous cadetship to give young Aboriginal people a career path into management roles in the finance industry. The cadetship enables indigenous university students to work in different areas of the Bank for three months a year while completing their studies. The cadetship was established to help address the shortage of indigenous managers in the finance industry.

ONE PERSON S QUEST INSPIRES A COMMUNITY
Health At a time when I thought all was lost, Elizabeth gave me confidence to pursue every option possible to raise the funds to continue. Petrea King, Founder, Quest for Life Foundation Alzheimers Association national website An estimated 400,000 Australians are affected by Alzheimers and other dementiarelated illnesses. This number is expected to increase dramatically in the coming years with the ageing of the population. The Macquarie Bank Foundation has funded the development of a national website by the Alzheimers Association of Australia to educate the public about dementia, train health workers and assist carers in dealing with the disease. The website ( was launched in March 2003, with 150,000 people expected to visit the site each year. Quest for Life Foundation For almost 20 years, Petrea King has been running an almost single-handed campaign to help people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, as well as those living with loss, grief and trauma. Since 1984, she has provided residential retreats, meditation groups and individual counselling to more than 50,000 people, aimed at helping them find peace of mind and regain a sense of control of their lives. In 1990, she established the Quest for Life Foundation to further progress this important work. Macquarie s involvement with Quest for Life began after Elizabeth Lynch, one of our senior managers, attended a residential retreat at Bundanoon in the New South Wales southern highlands. At the time, Quest for Life was in financial crisis and had taken the difficult decision to close its residential centre. Though critically ill, Liz rallied the support of the Macquarie Bank Foundation and staff in our Banking and Property Group, where she worked, to keep the centre open. Asthma Australia Australia has one of the world s highest rates of asthma, with 2.2 million people affected, including one in four children. The Macquarie Bank Foundation has partnered with Asthma Australia to find a cure for the disease and is contributing $1 million to asthma research over five years. In 2003, the Foundation supported a major public awareness campaign highlighting the prevalence of asthma in Australian society. In another breakthrough, Dr Dion Grosser, the inaugural Macquarie Bank Asthma Australia PhD Research Scholar, received international recognition for his ground-breaking work, which aims to show that asthma can be controlled by supplementing the diet with zinc. This may pave the way for an easy, cheap and safe treatment for the disease. The Bundanoon centre was reopened in October 2002 and receives Macquarie s support in a variety of ways. Our Banking and Property staff hold an annual fundraising event, raising considerable funds for the centre each year. The Macquarie Bank Foundation is also committed to funding the centre for three years, while Macquarie s Deputy Managing Director, Richard Sheppard, serves on the Quest for Life Foundation board. These contributions are made in recognition of the important work of Petrea and her Quest for Life team and in memory of a valued colleague. Diabetes Australia Children suffering from diabetes often don t understand what is happening to their bodies and, until recently, there was little material available to explain it to them in a way they could understand. The Macquarie Bank Foundation agreed to a Diabetes Australia request to fund a cartoon video to educate children with Type 1 diabetes about their condition and the steps they can take to manage it. Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening condition that can be triggered by a variety of factors the environment, viral illness, even the food we eat.

Environment Drought relief The plight of Australia s drought-stricken farmers and rural communities affected by the crisis touched the hearts of many people and sparked a groundswell of support across the nation. The Macquarie Bank Foundation and our staff contributed to the relief effort in a number of ways. Matthew Perrignon, a member of our Sydney Funds Management team, heard some friends in Brewarrina, in north-west New South Wales, had fallen on difficult times and asked what he could do to help. In typical rural spirit, the friends wanted nothing for themselves but asked that money be directed to the Brewarrina Pony Club, where the animals were close to starvation. A few weeks later, a semitrailer load of hay arrived in Brewarrina, bringing food to the ponies and some cheer to the local children. The Macquarie Bank Foundation also contributed funds to the RSPCA to distribute hay to livestock in far west and north-west New South Wales, where the drought hit hardest. In addition, funds were donated to the Farmhand Foundation to provide immediate drought relief and develop longer term strategies to counter the crippling effect of drought. Lizard Island Research Station As the home to nearly one million species, coral reefs are the most diverse of all marine ecosystems. Yet so little is known about these habitats and the life they contain. And with reefs deteriorating worldwide, time is running out to unlock these secrets. Australia has been at the forefront of this research for the past thirty years. The Lizard Island Research Station at the Great Barrier Reef is widely considered to be the best in the world and plays a vital role in understanding and protecting coral reef ecosystems. The Macquarie Bank Foundation has committed funding over four years to upgrade facilities at the station, including the construction of an education centre to accommodate student groups and research seminars. Auckland Volunteer Coastguard Some of the most critical community services are provided entirely by volunteers. The Auckland Volunteer Coastguard is a case in point. New Zealand s primary supplier of marine search and rescue services, it responds to 56,000 radio calls each year, handling more than 1400 incidents and helping 2000 people in need. Three hundred volunteers make it all happen. One of them is Stephanie Traill, who works with Macquarie s Financial Services Group in Auckland. A former volunteer surf lifeguard, Stephanie now gives her time as a Coastguard radio operator and a member of the volunteer rescue crew. Stephanie was Highly Commended in the Macquarie Bank Volunteer of the Year Awards in 2002.
