3 Dear Members, Happy New Year! 2016 has sprung upon us quickly; we hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas with their family and friends. We have been madly planning our Day and Extended Tours for 2016, with majority of extended tours listed in this issue of our Hoppers. More of our day trips will be released during the year as they approach. I am sure that there will be something in here to suit everyone s taste or tempt your interest! Our last couple of months have been busy with day trips, musicals and extended tours heading out in all directions. Our musicals are always popular and 2016 see s eight different shows already confirmed for Sydney with a couple more yet to have dates finalised. Please remember that musicals are very popular so book early with deposit to save disappointment of missing out. A couple of our day trips for this year are back by popular demand The Pumpkin Festival, Op Shop Trail, Stitches and Craft Show and Brigadoon in Bundanoon. Our Mystery Tours are always popular unfortunately we do not have any planned for the start of this year but will have a couple in the middle of the year so watch for our next book. To avoid disappointment with our tours as they are filling fast you need to get in early with your deposit to confirm your seat. Deposits need to be paid within 7 days of reserving your seat to hold it. If you would like an itinerary for any of our upcoming tours please call the office or visit our website. Happy reading.. DAY TOURS 2016 BATEMANS BAY CRUISE. Wednesday 24th February A beautiful and relaxing day as we head to Batemans Bay to hop onto the Merinda River Cruise for a three hour commentary cruise up one of the most scenic waterways in Australia The Clyde River. Lunch is served on board the boat, scrumptious fish, chips and salad, from Innes Boatshed. We have a short stop over at Nelligen before we return to Batemans Bay. Wednesday 2nd March Barangaroo Reserve is Sydney s newest Harbour foreshore park, marking the transformation of one of the city s oldest and ugliest industrial sites into a spectacular, six hectare headland open space for us all to embrace and enjoy. After arriving in Sydney we board our boat for a two hour lunch cruise with commentary provided by TV Gardening celebrity Graham Ross. Wednesday 9th March The beautiful Wollondilly Shire has so much history and what a better way to take some of it in but by visiting the Wollondilly Heritage Centre and Museum. This self-funded museum is run by volunteers who take us back to yester year as we walk through Burragorang Cottage a fully furnished timber slab, the story of the Burragorang Boys during WW1 and 100 Years of Apples in Oakdale, plus many other interesting pieces of memorabilia. The afternoon sees us head off to Warragamba Dam Visitors Centre, where we peruse the history of the Dam since its construction which is one of the world s largest domestic water supply dams. Friday 4th March Always a popular tour with our craft lovers, this year Rosehill is being transformed into a fresh, vibrant and fun craft lover s paradise. With an array of interactive features, displays and attractions with loads of supplies, classes and seminars. Whether you re into beading, stamping, quilting, knitting, painting, textile art and more - the Stitches and Craft Show is designed to inspire, delight and touch your crafting heart. A great day to team up with a friend and spend the day looking for some inspiration and new ideas for your projects for the year ahead. 4 BRIGADOON IN BUNDANOON. Saturday 9th April The Scottish Games are on again at the Southern Highlands most Scottish town Bundanoon. This is a terrific and fun day out for all the family. With the Street Parade, Massed Bands display featuring 300 pipers and drummers, The Highland Games and market stalls I am sure that there is something here that everybody will enjoy. Bring a seat along with you to sit and watch the Hay Tossing, Shot Put or participate in the Kilted Dash. An enjoyable day eating Haggis or shortbread! Wednesday 23rd March You know we are getting closer to Easter when we start to talk about the Sydney Show. It s the largest show in Australia with 900,000 visitors each year. It s a celebration of Australian culture, from rural traditions to modern day lifestyles, providing a unique experience for everyone. Whether it s the Show bags, Side Show Alley, the Woodchop, the main arena or the Regional Displays you will have a wonderful day exploring the Royal Easter Show at your leisure. Wednesday 20th April Back by popular demand, we are again headed over the mountains to search for the best bargains in the local Op Shops. Whether its clothes, shoes or furniture you are looking for I am sure you will find something in these treasure troves of shops. The day will see us visit St Vincent de Paul, The Smith Family, Father Riley s and Mission Australia. Lunch is provided. Whether it s Pumpkin Scones, Pumpkin Pies, Pumpkin Bread, Pumpkin Soup, Roasted Pumpkin or just plain pumpkin to take home you will find it all at Collector this weekend. This is a great festival held by this small village which brings about 3,000 visitors to town for the weekend with all profits from the day going back into local community events and groups. Wednesday 25th May One of the best morning melody shows you will see all year- our talented NSW Police Band will wow the audience with West Side Story to South Pacific and on a journey through River Dance, Zorba the Greek, classical waltzes, music from famous ballets and silver screen gems. Our day includes a beautiful morning tea prior to the show of fresh scones, jam and cream plus lunch back at the Penrith Panthers. A lovely way to spend your day. EXTENDED TOURS IN AUSTRALIA SOUTH EASTERN VICTORIA EXPLORER. 13th 21st March This 9 day tour of the Gippsland and Geelong area of Victoria sees us travel south down the coast to spend 3 nights at Lakes Entrance exploring Bairnsdale, Paynesville and Lakes Entrance townships before we head to Phillip Island for a night. Home of the famous colony of Fairy Penguins which we will watch swim ashore this evening. A lap around the Grand Prix Race Circuit before we depart the island towards Sorrento for a Ferry ride to Queenscliff. Arriving in Geelong for 3 nights we have a night out on the Blues Train that runs from Queenscliff to Drysdale as well as time at the Ford Discovery Centre and National Wool Museum. Then home via Albury. 6 WANGARATTA & BEECHWORTH. 11th - 15th April Always a beautiful area of Victoria to visit but especially at this time of the year as the seasons change to autumn and the leaves start to change colour and fall. As we travel around the area we spend a day in Beechworth revisiting their history of Ned Kelly and the Gold rush era. A Cruise on Lake Mulwala, tour of Renaissance Chocolates, plus some tasting of their products followed by a day at Milawa Cheese factory, Mustards and Brown Brothers Wines and a tour around the Rutherglen area sees out our week. A relaxing week staying at the lovely Gateway Hotel at Wangaratta. With visitors numbers limited to 400 on the island at any one time you will be treated to a small part of paradise that still exists in the Pacific Ocean without any crowds. It is part of Australia, therefore we do not require a passport to visit. We will be staying at Leanda Lei Apartments and have a daily activity plus time for relaxation or your own time to explore the island. You may like to take in a spot of fishing, a swim with turtles, bushwalk around the island, fish feeding or just sit back and relax in your spare time. You will enjoy a week on Lord Howe Island just relaxing in paradise. It is famous for its gold deposits and the bushranger Captain Thunderbolt. These days there are no bushrangers in the area and it is known for its dairy and beef cattle. Staying at Country Lodge Motor Inn we are shown the sights of Gloucester prior to spending the next few days being shown what the Gloucester area has to offer. Visits to the Olive Plantation, Herb Farm, and Trudgalong Farm, cruise at Forster plus a 5 course local gourmet produce dinner. There is time for retail therapy whilst in Gloucester prior to departing for home. We then come south a little to the world famous Gold Coast where we have time to visit Sea World, High Tea at Palazzo Versace Hotel, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary plus Australian Outback Spectaculars new show of Myths and Legends. All good things come to an end and after 11 days we head back to home and cooler weather! 7 WE WILL ROCK YOU. 25TH -26TH June If you like Queen then this musical is for you. The story focuses on young kids battling the mighty corporations who want to suppress their individuality and their love of music. Out of this comes two heroes who lead the fight back to listen to music again. The story is based on a Ben Elton book and the producers have backed the story with 24 of Queens biggest hits including We Are The Champions, Radio Ga Ga, I Want to Break Free, Somebody to Love, Killer Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody, Another One Bits The Dust and of course We Will Rick You. We attend the matinee show, leaving the evening yours to explore Sydney at your leisure. The following morning we have time for a spot of shopping before heading home. LAKE EYRE & ALICE SPINGS. 18th August 4th September A terrific tour to take in Central Australia crossing through South Australia at the Clare Valley before heading up to Roxby Downs to explore Lake Eyre. This inland lake covers an area of 144km wide by 77km long and is 15 mtrs below sea level. With the option of a flight over the Lake and landing at William Creek for lunch this is the best way to take in the vast area of Lake Eyre. A day at Andamooka will allow us time to view Olympic Dam and tour out to where the miners live in this ramshackle town. As we continue north through the centre of Australia we arrive at Coober Pedy for a couple of nights (above ground motel) before driving to Uluru to explore Kings Canyon, Uluru (Ayres Rock), Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) plus Sounds of Silence Dinner under the stars in an unique outback experience. The final section of this tour will bring us in to Alice Springs for two nights via the Western McDonnell Ranges. Our departure from Alice aligns with The Ghan s departure to Adelaide; giving you the option to ride The Ghan then fly home from Adelaide (additional costs for Ghan and Flight). The Ridge as it s called by locals has the largest deposits of Black Opal in the world. You can try your luck at striking it rich here like many have before you or you can purchase an opal the Opal shops around the town. A visit to Lightning Ridge is not complete unless you head down into the Chamber of The Black Hand an underground mine filled in carvings and paintings that you have to see to believe. Also a day at Grawin to visit the Pub in the Scrub and Glengarry Hilton before we have time to soak in the hot pools that are open to the public. Home via Orange stopping at Dundullimal Homestead. Cost : $1,670 pp twin share, $1,880 S/S Included : Coach Transfer, 5 night acc, 5 B/fast, 5 Dinner, 6 lunches and attractions MURRAY RIVER, ECHUCA to TOOLEYBUC. 21st 28th October We are again visiting the Murray River and this is the final leg of the Murray for many to complete boarding at Echuca and travelling along to Tooleybuc. Departing Nowra we head to Echuca for a couple of days which allows us time to explore Echuca before boarding the Murray Spirit 2. Our experienced staff will give us daily commentary as we cruise upstream and join us for dinner each evening as we disembark the boat to stay at motels along The River. Our final night is Tooleybuc where we start our journey home via Albury for a night. Our passengers that have travelled the Murray previously love this tour relaxing days as you cruise along the Murray then our coach meets you each evening to take you to your motel. Most Embarrassing Moment Getting myself locked in a toilet cubicle on Norfolk Island on tour & having to call Leanne back in the office to have her call someone on Norfolk Island to come and rescue me! Best Childhood memory: Coming home from school to find my grandparents bailing hay, which meant we could have hay rides on the back of the tractor for the afternoon think we might have meant to be helping them! What do you want to do when you grow up? Really don t know.not sure if I will ever grow up so don t need to worry about it. RESERVED SEATING Unfortunately we have decided that we are no longer able to reserve seats for people on our coaches due to some issues that have occurred recently. Seats will be a first in first served basis. With couples who join our coaches at other pick up points other than our depot we will reserve seats together for you towards the back of the coach so you are seated together.
