At the same time, hectares of rainforest areas are deforested annually for economic development ventures. With environmental scientists raising the red flag on global warming and the irreversible damage if the planetary boundaries pass the tipping points, the debate that arises: How do we strike a balance on the ongoing complex conflicts between economic growth, biodiversity conservation & environmental sustainability of this region? The oldest human remains in South East Asia, dating 40,000 years was found in its Great Cave. The Niah Caves are also famous for the swiftlet nests what we call as bird nest. In Hong Kong and Singapore, bird nests are often sold at very high prices, at times over US1000 per kilogram!
