There had not been any large or medium-sized industries in the regency, only small-sized industries and home industries. INFRASTRUCTURE Transportation The main transportation in Wakatobi Regency is by air and sea. There are Matahora Airport and several seaports as the main infrastructure for transportation. There are many traditional boats throughout the regency that serves both as transportation and activities support. Telecommunication Wakatobi Regency is supported by adequate telecommunication facilities; both mobile network and landline network are available. Energy The main source of energy in Wakatobi Regency comes from the National Electric Company, Diesel Generator and Solar Panel. P a g e 3 14

5 TOURISM FACTS ATTRACTION The main tourist attraction of the Wakatobi Regency is the Wakatobi National Park. The Wakatobi National Park is one of 50 National Parks in Indonesia, which is located in the Regency of Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi. It crowned as National Park in 1996 and has a total area of 1,39 million hectares. It possesses a marine biodiversity with a scale and condition that ranks it as one of the highest priorities in marine conservation in Indonesia. The depth of waters in this national park varies, with the deepest part reaching 1,044 meters below sea level. The Wakatobi National Park features Coral Reefs; Fishes; Other animals; specificity; and Hoga Island. Wakatobi has been designated in the World Network of Biosphere Reserves by the Man and the Biosphere Programme of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on 11 July The world s major ecosystem types and landscapes represented in this Network are devoted to conserving biological diversity, promoting research and monitoring, as well as seeking to provide models of sustainable development in the service of humankind. ACCESSIBILITIES Wakatobi Regency is relatively easy to reach by both domestic and international tourist. The main entry is from Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport located in Makassar City, and tourists may continue to travel by plane to the Matahora Airport to reach the Wakatobi Regency. 6 REGIONAL TOURISM POLICY TOURISM IN REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Wakatobi Regency is one of the national priority in terms of tourism development. The Ministry of Tourism have appointed Wakatobi Regency as one of the National Tourism Development Zone, National Tourism Destination and National Strategic Tourism Area. Tourism has become one of the main priority sector for development by the local government. The government and the community have fully aware of the Wakatobi Regency tourism resources and it s potential for economic contribution through tourism development. They are welcoming every investors that are willing to cooperate not only on developing more tourism attraction and facilities but also to develop in all of tourism aspects of Bulukumba Regency. REGIONAL TOURISM DEVELOPMENT FRAMEWORK Tourism development in the Wakatobi Regency must be implemented in compliance with the following principles: 1.
