2 IN HARMONY WITH NATURE The predominant influence of nature is the most remarkable aspect of the surroundings of Camp Banksia. Adjacent to the sea and sand of the Rubicon River estuary the location of Camp Banksia at Port Sorell in Tasmania s North West is blessed with harmony and serenity the ideal environment for groups to gather to relax, to learn, to reflect, to absorb, to refresh and reenergise. The Camp s Features A large sunny main hall and dining room is the centre of the camp, with a lovely view over the lawns to the pond which is a home for ducks, frogs and native birds. The hall is adjacent to the kitchen facilities and has wheel chair access. Extensive open grassed areas for many outdoor activities or just to enjoy a quiet stroll around the camp. Camp Banksia Community Centre has a half-size basketball court which can also be set up for volley ball, netball, badminton or other indoor activities. A meeting room for smaller camp groups or community groups to hold their fortnightly, monthly or annual meetings. A nature study area/resource room where you can collect water samples from the pond and identify the different life forms that are present. Birds, animals and plant life can be explored in their natural environment. This room can also be used as a group break out room. Any group seeking accommodation and catering facilities will find Camp Banksia appealing. Its cleanliness reflects the purity of the sea breeze. Its appearance harmonises with its environment. Its accommodation clusters are aptly named after the Sheoak, Boobyalla, Willow and Blackwood trees prevalent on the property. The view of the pond is superb from the dining hall and includes a terraced area where the wildlife gathers at dusk. Camp Banksia hosts a wide range of activities centred around its natural surroundings. These include spotlighting, rock pool rambles, damper making, canoeing on the pond or riding bikes. At Camp Banksia food is prepared to enhance the camping experience with a flexible menu of professionally prepared meals intended to delight the palate and content the pangs of hunger. Groups will welcome the extensive opportunities to learn while they experience a night or two away from home; being responsible for themselves they can establish and develop a strong sense of identity and community in a safe and nurturing natural environment with opportunities to achieve their personal best.

Accommodation Most of Camp Banksia s accommodation is in bunk style cabins, each one sleeping six people.

She-oak and Boobyalla each have six cabins.

Boobyalla is midway between the Main Hall and the Community Centre.

Blackwood, She-oak and Boobyalla clusters each have their own unisex and universal access bathroom.

Meals At Camp Banksia we strive to make every aspect of camp life a positive one.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all home-style meals with morning/afternoon tea and supper prepared fresh daily.

Adjustments or replacements are made for vegetarian and other vital special needs (coeliac/gluten free, diabetics, dairy

3 Accommodation Most of Camp Banksia s accommodation is in bunk style cabins, each one sleeping six people. The cabins are grouped into four clusters. Blackwood and Willows each have five cabins. She-oak and Boobyalla each have six cabins. She-oak and Blackwood clusters are close to the Main Hall whilst Willows is closest to the Community Centre/Gymnasium. Boobyalla is midway between the Main Hall and the Community Centre. All of our cabins are designed to make your as stay comfortable and carefree as possible with easy access to facilities. Blackwood, She-oak and Boobyalla clusters each have their own unisex and universal access bathroom. Each cluster, therefore, can be used by either gender or only one gender if required. Meals At Camp Banksia we strive to make every aspect of camp life a positive one. In particular we recognise the importance of providing plentiful, delicious and well balanced meals. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all home-style meals with morning/afternoon tea and supper prepared fresh daily. Each meal is prepared on site with the freshest ingredients to ensure appetising, balanced and nutritious catering. Adjustments or replacements are made for vegetarian and other vital special needs (coeliac/gluten free, diabetics, dairy intolerant, nut allergies etc.) on an individual basis. Our dining room has two kitchen alcoves in which you can prepare your own hot drinks at any time. Packed meals are provided to take on day trips and excursions Dedicated disabled toilet and shower facilities are provided at each cluster of cabins and in the Community Centre. Guests need to supply their own bedding and towels; we supply mattresses only. Alternatively, bedding and towels are available for hire. There is a laundry for use by guests free of charge.

At low tide you can walk to Penguin Island and Rabbit Island - the latter a hideout for bushrangers in the mid-1800s.

At nearby local beaches Port Sorell, Shearwater, Hawley Beach and Freers Beach - you can sail, swim paddle or dive into the sheltered waters.

The camp adjoins a cycling/walking path that meanders around the Rubicon River estuary at Port Sorell. At low tide you can walk to Penguin Island and Rabbit Island - the latter a hideout for bushrangers in the mid-1800s. You can relax on the sandy dunes, walk along the picturesque foreshore and fish from the floating pontoon. At nearby local beaches Port Sorell, Shearwater, Hawley Beach and Freers Beach - you can sail, swim paddle or dive into the sheltered waters. Play a round of golf on the publicly accessible local course that is adjacent to the camp. The Shearwater shopping centre is only a 10 minute walk away. At dusk, you can catch sight of little penguins scampering up the beach at Point Sorell. Meetings and Conferences Meetings are necessary for conducting negotiations, exchanging ideas, working on projects and presenting information. At Camp Banksia you can let us focus on preparation of meals, set up of tables, chairs and presentation equipment while you enjoy the surroundings of our camp. We specialise in conferences catering for any size group and provide excellent menus appropriate for all tastes, dietary needs and budgets. The dining room is bright and sunny and overlooks the grounds with native flora, lawns and a pond. Up to 120 can be comfortably seated in a formal setting. You are welcome to decorate this room to your taste. There is space on the lawns to erect a marquee if you wish. We also offer smaller rooms that can be used for breakout groups. Our event coordinator will work with you one on one to help you achieve the best results and take advantage of our beachside location to ensure your meetings are interesting and productive. Camp Banksia offers an affordable alternative for people seeking a natural setting and the comfort of professional care. The camp s all inclusive per person price covers room hire, crockery, glass ware, cutlery, table and cloth hire. A stone s throw away is picturesque Freers Beach which is lovely for a romantic stroll or for sea-side photography. Enjoy the tranquillity of the camp to relax, paddle a canoe, walk on the beach, have a round of golf or visit our nearby tourist attractions. Cabin style accommodation can be provided. Bedding and towels are available for hire upon request.
