Lest We Forget!!! A very long round for the Roos Boys this week, with 4 out of the 5 feams playing at Hahndorf on ANZAC Day. However it wasn t a good outing for our boys, with the A grade the only team to win. The Under 13 Central team played on Saturday morning but unfortunately unable to register a win. The Under 13 Gold team went down to Macclesfield. The C Grade played on Sunday & had a good win against Bridgewater/Callington. The exciting news for this week is that the Joeys finally get a chance to show off their skills when games begin next weekend Sponsor News This week s featured sponsors:

Senior News A Grade: Mount Barker (112) defeated Hahndorf 8-8 (56) Best Players: Lucas Block, Tom Hughes, Luke Giles, Scott Byrt, Jack Lores Goal Kickers: Lucas Block 3; Scott Byrt, Tom Hughes, Jack Lores, Simon Nunan 2; Michael Higgs, Luke Giles, Leith Marston, Caine Jinnette, Wayne Nassaradine Match Report: A large crowd gathered at the Pine Ave oval for the Anzac Day clash of traditional rivals Mt Barker and the hosts Hahndorf. After a stirring rendition of the Last Post from Hahndorf legend Lester Francis the game began in fine conditions under lights. Both teams showed plenty of enthusiasm early as the ball was thrown up by 400 gamer Trevor MacDonald. The deadlock was broken by a touch of Lucas Block magic as he kicked a 55metre goal to open the Barkeroos' ledger. Michael Higgs and Tom Hughes also goaled to extend the visitor's lead. A late major to Magpie Trent Male kept the home side in touch. Hahndorf now had the scoring end as the Magpies kicked towards the relocated scoreboard. The two Male boys Trent and Jarryn both booted majors as did James Gallagher as Hahndorf seemed to take control of the match. The game was halted as a Hahndorf defender needed to be stretchered off and the Magpies lost momentum. Again Lucas Block showed his class kicked a long bomb. Jack Lores returning from injury also goaled. When Simon Nunan showed his roving skills to kick a 6 pointer the Barkeroos had a handy lead at the long break. Mt Barker took complete control on the resumption of play. As he did in the previous game against Onkas, ruck man Luke Giles dominated his tiring opposition and started to palm the ball to the advantage of his on ballers. Block, Michael Pope, Tom Hughes and Ben Hanna had a glut of possession which they constantly drove to the goal front.the Magpies were under siege and Because the Barkeroo wingmen Caine Jinette and Michael A-Z were on top of their opponents, the Barkeroo forwards Scott Byrt, Leith Marston and Michael Higgs were given plenty of scoring opportunities. The Roos' 3rd Q was their best of the season so far, as they executed their coach's instructions to the letter. The final quarter followed the previous stanzas as the Barkeroos' pressure strangled the Magpies use of the ball and their usually creative on ball division were bereft of options. The Barkeroos Ran out comfortable winners managing to double Hahndorf's score.
The only negative from the match was the leg injury to captain Nunan who was forced from the field in the 3rd Q. However both Lores and Hanna will benefit from their runs. B Grade: Hahndorf (133) defeated Mount Barker 8-1 (49) Best Players: Stuart Faehmann, Kent Shillitoe, Brad Shillitoe, Scott Tidemann, Andrew McKinnon Goal Kickers: Scott Tidemann, Andrew McKinnon 2; Ben Pomery, Patrick Bradshaw, C Grade: Results from last week: Milang 8.9 (57) def Mt Barker / T. Burgynre Best wishes go to the BR/C player who was rushed to hospital with a broken leg/ankle. The game was very entertaining and was a credit to all the players as they dealt with the long stoppage during the first quarter. More players are wanted so if you want to join the relaxed atmosphere and an entertaining game of footy then contact Brad Rogers (Coach) Next Week: Mount Barker V Mount Roo Park C Grade: Blackwood V Mount Milang (Sunday 11am)
Colts News Senior Colts: Hahndorf 10-7 (67) defeated Mount Barker 9-11 (65) Best Players: Jarred Mason, Alex Oddy, Angus De Wit, Billy Scott, Oliver Cavies, Ben Pomery Goal Kickers: Scott Haycraft, Henry Pope, Jarred Mason 2; Casey Nicholls, Billy Scott, Alex Oddy Match Report: Mount Barker kicked with the wind in the first quarter and controlled the majority of the play. Unfortunately the two goals kicked by Mount Barker was not enough reward for effort and would prove costly. Hahndorf hit back strongly in the second quarter and booted 4 goals to lead by a point at half time. In the third quarter Mount Barker was able to settle into some excellent team oriented play. The visitors booted 4 goals in the third quarter to take a 16 point lead at the last change. Jarred Mason and Alex Oddy were really influential on ball players who were continually sending Mount Barker into attack. Hahndorf came home like a steam train with the wind and kicked an impressive 5 goals straight to pinch the game by 2 points. The game was hard fought and it seemed like Mount Barker were controlling the contest for much of the day. However some poor decision making under pressure at crucial times helped keep Hahndorf in the game. The boys fought hard, but were beaten by a determined Hahndorf unit in a cliff hanger. Junior Colts: Hahndorf 6-12 (48) defeated Mount Barker 6-3 (39) Best Players: Nick Sroka, Billy Stokes, Rhys Paterson, Ryan Weidenhofer, Jackson Field, Andrew Jarrod Goal Kickers: Rhys Paterson 5; Jordan Houlahan Next Week: Mount Barker V Mount Roo Park Maccy Roos v Nairne
Junior News Under 13 (Central): Hahndorf 11-2 (68) defeated Mount Barker 2-4 (14) Best Players: Jack Paech, Sam Smith, Braydon Gallas, Mason Baxter, Kane Lucas Goal Kickers: Jack Cairncross, Sam Healey Match Report: The weather conditions at Hahndorf oval on Saturday morning were quite mild with a reasonably strong breeze blowing across the ground providing no real advantage either way. 1st Q, The boys begin with some good tackles and a willingness to chase their opponents, as the quarter progressed and the opposition commenced scoring the boys began to refuse to take possession of the ball and fire out short handballs within packs to no one in particular, this put unsustainable pressure on their team mates. 2nd Q, Pickle pointed out the error of their ways during the first break and the boys came out in the second quarter showing a preparedness to put their heads over the ball and take possession allowing the ball to be kicked forward providing scoring opportunities. Some of the boys even discovered that the opposition had two arms and two legs, just like them and they began to bump their opponents off balance, providing themselves some space to run into. 3rd Q, Hahndorf come out with a clear determination to gain possession of the ball and run breaking the lines. This concept left the boys looking stunned and out of position all over the ground. The Roo s back line were not prepared to run hard and man up, this inaction required the last line of defence to continually be drawn out of the square to make a contest thus leaving the Magpies an easy passage to score, and score heavily they did. 4th Q, The boys came out in the last term showing a rejuvenated hunger for the ball and a willingness to bump and be bumped with some good tackles being laid. This approach allowed their team mates to gather the ball and provided the forwards increased opportunities at scoring. Alas the damage was done in the previous 3 terms and Hahndorf had a comfortable win. Note: During the 1st term a young Roo s player collided with the point post breaking it off at ground level. No injury was sustained by the player and it is alleged that the post was already broken, however it was Leigh Matthews like VFL Round at Windy Hill. Could the player responsible please see Pickle on Monday night at training, as restitution may be sought?
Under 13 (Gold): Macclesfield 3-10 (28) defeated Mount Barker Gold 2-9 (21) Best Players: Amos Doyle, Jarrod Hogben, Mitchell Harris, Marshall Howe, Lachlan Linke, William Bruce Goal Kickers: Mitchell Harris 2 Next Week: Under 13 (Central): Mount Barker V Mount Roo Park Under 13 (Gold): Onkaparinga Valley Gold V Mount VBalhannah (Saturday 10:30am) Joey News Games finally start for the littlest Joeys next weekend & are as follows: Under 11: Mount Barker V Roo Park (Friday 7:30pm) Under 10: Hahndorf White V Mount Barker Hahndorf (Saturday 9:30am) Hahndorf Black V Mount Barker Hahndorf (Saturday 8:30am) Under 9: Mount Barker Blue V Roo Park (Friday 6:30pm) Kersbrook V Mount Barker Kersbrook (Friday 6:30pm) Under 8: Mount Barker Blue V Nairne Roo Park (Friday 5:30pm) Mount Barker White V Onkas Valley Roo Park (Friday 5:30pm) Lobethal V Mount Barker Lobethal (Friday 6:30pm) Social News Saturday 4 th May Ladies Day Please see last week s Roos News Club Apparel: All players should have received a price list and order form for Barkeroos gear.
