5 FORTHCOMING CLUB EVENTS Visit to Monmouth Pétanque Club : June 3 rd POSTPONED We had requested that this event be organised March, when few of us would be away on holiday or enjoying the bank holiday weekend, and, especially, when our members would not be so heavily committed with the WPA League and other events. June the third was finally settled upon, but we found we could only muster one carload of members, and so it was decided by Monmouth Pétanque Club to postpone this until later in the year. Annual Book Sale : June 30 th This has now been arranged Saturday, June 30 th 2012, at Albert Road Church Hall. If you haven t started collecting books yet, please start now! The contacts are Dave Rapley ((029) ) and Jean-Yves ((029) ). We need books - and volunteers to help sell and provide refreshments on the day. Annual Day with the Franco-Britannique Society : June 17 th CANCELLED Regrettably, despite its being such a success in previous years, this had had to be cancelled by the Franco-Britannique Society Penarth Festival Pétanque Display : July 08 th. and 15 th As usual, we will be putting on a display as part of the Penarth Festival. This will be on two consecutive Sunday mornings, July 08 th and July 15th, from a.m. until 2.00 p.m. This is often a good way to increase membership, as well as raising our profile in the Town. There will be two shifts : to and to Perhaps as many members as possible could turn up to try and boost our membership!

7 RECENT CLUB EVENTS AND VISITS Wheatsheaf Open Triples : May Lynda Williams, Laurent Mirbelle and Geoff Jones travelled to this event. It will come as no surprise to those who know the players that the event was won by Roger Morgan, and Steve and Jill Brace. WPA Grand Prix at The Monkstone : May 12 and Penarth entered two teams this year s Grand Prix, one wholly consisting of Penarth members (Valérie, Geoff, Laurent, and Brian Spooner, competing as The French Dragons), the other comprising Jean-Yves, Jesse and Scott, plus Jake from The Wheatsheaf, known as The President s Men. After the first two parts of the Grand Prix, on April 1 st and the 22 nd, the final two parts were played on consecutive days over the weekend of May 12 th and 13 th. Out of the sixteen teams playing, The President s Men finished in 7 th position, and the French Dragons in 12 th. This means that the President s Men will represent Wales in the Home Nations Championship and the EPA Inter-Regional Championship. The French Dragons will represent Wales in the EPA Challenge Cup, taking place this year on Hayling Island. The full scores can be found on the WPA web-site at WPA National Mixed Doubles Championship at Brecon : May Congratulations to Jesse on coming first in this event. Well done!
8 WPA AND OTHER EVENTS (DETAILS SHOULD BE CHECKED ON THE WPA WEBSITE) Entry to these events normally costs around 5 per player. These details were taken from the official web pages of the WPA, and certain events have not been listed, such as those in Belgium, France and Denmark. However, many details are provisional, and it would be as well to double-check these on the WPA website nearer the date. Quite a few events, including the Cardiff Bay Boules Club Open Day, have been cancelled recently. It would be good to see more Penarth players taking part in these events. Entry ms the WPA competitions are available as PDF from the WPA website in the Competitions section.
