We had another great show on Caroline Street. Attendance was down somewhat due to the weather, but that s OK. The rain held off right up to the end. The awards presentation got cut a little short when thunder sounded in the distance. Thanks to our meet committee chairman, J Brown, and many thanks to everyone who did all the jobs that are necessary to pull it off. Now we can take a look back at it and consider what to do better next year. We have a good group of people in our club. The regular success of the annual meet proves that, J Brown leads the way, but it is really the way everyone comes and helps out that make it happen. We are heading into the last half of We will have a lot of great activities ahead, but also in the coming months a nominating committee will be formed to come up with a new slate of officers to be installed in December. Everyone please consider serving in some capacity on the board next year. We need more help to keep the club going next year and beyond. Fred Becker Blkjack32@verizon.net For more club news and photos Visit Our Web Site Nora Aftel, Webmaster Too bad we couldn t make it to the Northern Neck Meet as we planned. That was meant to be our group outing but it was cancelled due to rain. They had a rain day planned but it was on the same day as our show. I hope we have seen enough rain outs for a lond while, and I hope we can continue to have club outings. If you have an idea for this please present your plan at the meeting. On May 21st Wally and I attended the convocation ceremony at Riverbend High School in Spotsylvania County. We presented the club s scholarship grant to Ethan Vaughn, our winning student. I got there late and Wally made the presentation durning the ceremony. I gave him the check at the end. We met his parents. He seems like a very nice young man, and I know we have made very good use of the funds. I hope to see this become a regular event, and hopefully it will help generate interest in the hobby among young people. I have said it here before that the folks at the National Club level do the same sort of thing with the same goals in mind. I was hoping by now we would have something to look forward to on the historic marker project, but it is still in the discussion phase. I will have more to say about this at the meeting. See you there Doug.

3 J U N E Page 3 Historic Fredericksburg Region, AACA - Monthly Meeting May 15, 2018 President Doug Makin called the meeting to order at 7:29 PM. There were 32 members present and 3 guests: David Armstrong (joined), Charles Bachini, and Cleo Brickhouse. April 2018 Minutes The April minutes will be in the next Magneto for approval. The refreshments signup has a few summer slots still open if you are interested. Treasurer s Report Mark presented a brief treasurer s report. Last month, we passed the hubcap for the food pantry and collected $81 for the food bank. Since this is an odd numbered month, we passed the hubcap again. COMMITTEE REPORT Sunshine Club Rena did not send any cards this month. Legislative Don Mohr had nothing significant to report. Magneto newsletter Fred Becker has a new . It is now blkjack32@aol.com. Fred was not present at the May meeting; there was no Magneto this month. Please send any information to Fred for inclusion in the Magneto pictures are especially appreciated. Web site Nora was not present at the May meeting; there was nothing to report. Membership and Activities Doug has some free National AACA membership applications for first time members only. There is no word about Taste of the Mountains yet. We will reach out to them after we have the HFRAACA meet. Wally asked people to check the website for event updates and to attend local cruise ins. Membership New member, David Armstrong signed up this month. He has an 83 Lincoln. HFRAACA Annual Meet - J Brown provided the following update: Before the May meeting, there were 66 cars registered. Six more were registered at the meeting. The Apple Blossom car show had drawn over 200 cars and our registrations seem to be coming in more slowly than last year. We reviewed job assignments and gaps. Judges are needed; we have 19 and anticipate that we will need about 30. Mayo is working the fashion show and expects the same level of

4 J U N E Page 4 participation as last year. She asked for some text regarding recent club activity, as in historic marker and scholarship activities, for her to promote during the fashion show. J wants to sell 50/50 tickets; we will do so at Show Central. We will also need someone to walk around to sell them. Childrens activities will be the same as last year. We will need all hands on deck for cleanup. We need to maintain the barriers until the end of the show. We plan to give door prizes for registered vehicles by random number. Radio ads should be out next week. Lauman stated that in collecting contributions, he only got 3 sponsors with a total donation of $700. OLD BUSINESS We are still looking for presentations for club meetings. Emily provided some information regarding the historic marker. There is some debate as to who really had the first car in Fredericksburg. The text for the plaque has had several re-writes and needs approval. Mayo agreed to some text changes and to keep Emily s final edits. A motion was made and passed for Emily to proceed with text. An old car is needed for a wedding on 27 May; J has contact information. The ODMA Meet was quiet and small; there were few spectators. Around 65 vehicles were registered. 60 showed up. Everyone from our region got an award. Ben got Second Preservation. Mark got First Preservation. Neil got a DPC. Doug got a Second Junior. The next Region scheduled to do ODMA may defer next year s meet since they are doing a National Meet. Wally suggested that HFR consider stepping up to do the ODMA next year. There was some discussion, but no decision. People are planning to meet at the Ferry Farm Walmart to attend the Northern Neck Meet on 19 May. NEW BUSINESS We received a Thank You letter from the AACA Library for our club donation. There is a 76 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with 68,000 miles available for sale. We will be awarding the club scholarship on 21 May at Riverbend High School. Ben closed the meeting with a prayer. The club meeting was adjourned at 8:35 PM.
