This implies that no restriction or limitation is imposed on air traffic in transit through the area. The ground firing authority ensures, through appropriate surveillance systems, that the area is used for firing only when there is no possibility of conflict with air traffic not participating in the range activities ATHINAI ACC while maintaining a normal flow of traffic through the area, will co-ordinate with the ground firing authority and provide the ground firing authority with position data on all known air traffic during periods of range activity. Holding of en-route aircraft will be applied on emergency case only In order to facilitate range operations and ensure the safety of air traffic, VFR flights intending to operate through the range shall comply with the following provisions: a) Prior to entering the area an appropriate flight plan shall be filed. b) VFR flights shall make a position report to ATHINAI ACC prior to entering the area. Depending on the direction of flight this report shall be made either over SIT VOR/DME or MIL VOR/DME. e) VFR flights before entering the Area when unable to contact ATHINAI Control, should establish contact with any ATS unit in order to get information about the activities in the Area VFR flights unable to comply with the provisions above, are strongly advised not to operate within the area during the periods of activity.
