2 Vector Aerospace celebrates 30 th anniversary of supporting the PW100! 2017 is the 30 th anniversary of the first P&WC PW100 engine overhaul performed by Vector Aerospace France (formerly known as SECA). SECA s appointment as an authorized repair and overhaul center for P&WC s PW100 family extended an agreement between the two companies which already covered the JT15D turbofan and the PT6A turboprop. On July 8 th 1987, the first engine a PW120 for Air Littoral arrived in Le Bourget (then SECA s facility location) for overhaul. The engine was shipped back to the operator on December 31 st SECA was the first independent PW100 MRO, and it processed approximately 30 engines during its first year supporting the type. 30 years later, Vector Aerospace France has performed more than 3,300 major shop visits, including approximately 1,000 overhauls on PW100 engines. VAF is very proud to be part of the family of PW100 Designated Overhaul Facilities (DOFs), and continues to provide the global PW100 operator community with industry-leading support! An advertisement published in the Flight International magazine in Vector Aerospace successfully completes first AS350 CRFT flight test Vector and its partner Robertson Fuel Systems (RFS) have announced the successful first flight of their crash-resistant fuel tank (CRFT) for the Airbus AS350 light single helicopter family. This second major milestone toward Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification of the retrofittable CRFT comes shortly after the successful completion of an FAA-certified 50-foot drop test that demonstrated the tank s ability to withstand impact without any leakage, thereby helping to prevent post-crash fires. The new CRFT has since been installed on two flight test aircraft, an AS350 B2 and an AS350 B3, with both undergoing extensive ground-testing as the program progresses steadily forward. Canada's Top 75 Defence Companies Vector Aerospace has once again been ranked as one of Canada's Top 75 defense companies for 2017, in Canadian Defence Review magazine s annual survey. This news was published in the CDR's Top 75 April issue, which is a veritable Who's Who of Canada's defence industry. Vector is proud to support the Canadian Armed Forces on platforms including the CH-148 Cyclone, CH-149 Cormorant, CH-146 Griffon, CH-124 Sea King, CC-138 Twin Otter and CT-142 Dash-8. UPCOMING TRADE SHOWS Commenting on the first flight achievement, Jeff Booker, Manager of Quality at Vector s Langley location, said: This milestone is a testament to the team here at Vector, which has been working hard to bring this product to market for our customers. As soon as the drop testing was complete we began the process of installation to move us to this milestone. It s a good feeling to see this tank flying. Company flight testing will continue on both aircraft over the next few weeks, as Vector and RFS work towards a late 2017 FAA supplemental type certificate (STC) target date. The CRFT is being developed by RFS and Vector as a direct replacement for all AS350 models, including the H125 (AS350 B3e), as well as for the EC130 B4. 5 Vector Aerospace recognized by Rolls-Royce for C-130J/AE 2100 QEC nacelle support Vector Aerospace s UK team has been presented with two awards from Rolls-Royce for its responsive, high-quality support of the AE 2100 turboprop s quick engine change (QEC) nacelle. The awards, which were presented to Vector during this year s Rolls-Royce AE Authorized Maintenance Center (AMC) Conference in Indianapolis, IN, included an Operational Performance Award for Lowest nacelle turn-around time in the network and a Quality Excellence Award for No quality escapes in the last year. Vector provides support for the QEC nacelles equipping Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft under subcontract to Rolls-Royce, in support of MissionCare contracts for the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Marine Corps. The work, which is undertaken at Vector s Pyestock facility in Farnborough, Hants, involves the removal of AE 2100D3 engines from the nacelle, which is then repaired, refurbished and painted, as required. Vector s subcontract performance is continuously measured in terms of delivery, quality and customer performance. Vector has repeatedly attained an Excellent scorecard status rating since 2010, with the Pyestock team achieving 100% on time delivery (OTD). We are honored to have been recognized by Rolls-Royce for our support of the C-130J s QEC nacelle, said Owen McClave, Managing Director of Vector Aerospace UK. Our relationship with Rolls-Royce and Lockheed Martin on the C-130 platform spans back over 30 years, and our MRO specialists are proud to provide the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Marine Corps with responsive, reliable support. Vector has an established track record of C-130 QEC nacelle support, being an authorized Lockheed Martin QEC Service Center for the nacelle on the legacy C-130B-H Hercules aircraft. In addition, Vector supports the Rolls-Royce T56 turboprop as an Authorized Maintenance Center (AMC), and also provides full support for the UTC Aerospace Systems (formerly Hamilton Sundstrand) 54H60 propeller system. Vector Aerospace improves efficiency for quality systems certification Over the past two years, Vector Aerospace UK has experienced a change in the way certification is granted for quality systems (AS 9100 & 9110). company s consolidated quality system, and the whole UK-wide scope now comes under a single provider (British Standards Institute), with a single certificate for each standard. In the past, different approvals were given for the three different business units and sites in the UK (Helicopters, Components and Engines), approved by two different certification bodies (LRQA and BSi). Obviously, this procedure resulted in duplicate and unnecessary processes and numerous audits across the business. On May 5 th, Vector UK received new certificates to cover the Chris Hosking, Quality Director, Vector UK commented, This is a huge achievement, bringing together three separate systems and aligning all our UK processes. This change provides a standardized way of working which helps improves quality, provides operational flexibility to move people around the different operations areas, and offers a major reduction in internal and external audits and related costs.

9 Vector Aerospace holds Ag Customer Days down under, in partnership with Field Air and Pratt & Whitney Canada Vector Aerospace's Australian facility in Brisbane, Queensland, recently ran a series of Vector Ag Customer Days for the second year in a year. Focused on the important Australian agricultural aerial application operator segment, these series of events were held in collaboration with Field Air and Pratt and Whitney Canada (P&WC). The first Ag Customer Day was held in Moree, New South Wales, with the second held in Adelaide, South Australia, ahead of the Aerial Agricultural Association of Australia (AAAA) National Convention. Highlights of the sessions included a live hot section inspection (HSI) demonstration on a P&WC PT6A turboprop, during which Vector s mobile repair team (MRT) experts took the engine apart, thereby allowing attendees to learn how to perform the inspection themselves. The events also benefited from the insights provided by P&WC s local Field Service Representative (FSR), as well as hands-on training aids including a cutaway PT6A engine plus a variety of components exhibiting the types of engine damage experienced by ag operators in the field, including lightning strikes, corrosion and foreign object damage (FOD). Commenting on the Ag Customer Day events, Matt Dennington, General Manager of Vector Aerospace Australia, said: These Customer Days offer a great opportunity for us to focus on the unique needs of our agricultural aerial application operators, receiving valuable feedback from the field and in turn highlighting the wide range of services offered by Vector. Working closely with P&WC, we are able to offer a broad range of cost-saving opportunities for the ag operator community, while at the same time supporting their demanding aircraft utilization schedules with reliable engine performance. Vector Aerospace Australia is a P&WC Designated Overhaul Facility (DOF) for a wide range of PT6A engine variants, including the specialized PT6A-11AG, PT6A-15AG, PT6A-34AG, PT6A-60AG, PT6A-65AG and PT6A-67AG models. In addition, Vector s Summerside location in Canada also supports the PT6A-41AG variant. A cross functional team of Customer Service, Global Operations and Sales representatives from Vector Aerospace recently travelled to Cobham Aviation Services based at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose, Helston, Cornwall, UK to participate in an Engine Maintenance Program Annual Review. Cobham Aviation Services delivers outsourced aviation services for military and civil customers worldwide through military training, special mission flight operations, outsourced commercial aviation and aircraft engineering. Pictured (L-R): Trevor Pople (Cobham); Tim Mead (Cobham); Shaun Buchanan, Manager of Technical Sales at Vector UK; Scott MacEwen, Fleet Manager at Vector Aerospace; Kerry Withers, Service Center Manager at Vector s Bournemouth, UK facility; Courtnay Woods, Manager, Engine Programs at Vector Aerospace, and Jason Boyle (Cobham).
10 Community Business of the Year award Vector Aerospace s Summerside, PEI facility, which recently won the Community Business of the Year award at the City of Summerside s Annual Awards Gala. Jeff Poirier (left), President of Vector s Engine Services Atlantic division, accepted the award from Councillor Brent Gallant of the City of Summerside. The award is presented to a community minded business based in Summerside whose involvement, dedication and spirit has contributed positively to life in Summerside through its support for employee volunteerism and its donation of time and resources. There are currently 465 employees at Vector s Summerside facility. Vector Aerospace participates in joint exercise with local police In mid-april, Vector Aerospace's Fleetlands facility in Gosport, UK, participated in a joint exercise with the local police, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Services (HFRS) and local ambulance services to ensure that sufficient services, resources and co-ordination were in place to deal with a major aircraft crash incident. The scenario used for the exercise was that a helicopter had crashlanded on Vector s Fleetlands site, landing on two cars before slamming into a hangar, causing multiple injuries and fires. Vector s own Fire Service was the initial first responder, and then established the need for external support (conveniently marshalled at the external car park!). The HFRS Major Incident response team then took over and established three individual scenes : the helicopter, the cars and the factory, all with injured people involved. As shown in the attached photos, this was a major undertaking and reflected a high level of planning and integration among the Vector Guard and Fire Service teams and the external blue light services. Vector personnel Brian Davis (SHEF Manager) and Andy Brown (site Facilities Manager) were key to this planning, and deserve special mention. The initial feedback from the police and HFRS has been really positive. This also assists us with one of our primary 2017 business objectives of being a good neighbour to our community.
