The vision and the action Already: Flight tracking Now: SwiftBroadband - Safety ATM airspace over land

The vision and the action Already: Flight tracking Now: SwiftBroadband - Safety ATM airspace over land

Inmarsat s Vision is to be at the forefront of the innovation, technology and services of the Connected Aircraft We will continue investing our efforts in shaping the next generation Safety services network while anticipating the passenger s demand for communication services

Inmarsat is fully funded and invests I5 (x4) Global Xpress (Ka-Band) System capacity (logarithmic scale) I2 (x4) Classic Aero I3 (x5) Classic Aero Swift64 I4 (x3) Classic Aero SwiftBroadband $1.5B USD Alphasat (x1) Classic Aero SwiftBroadband $350M USD $1.6B USD

Inmarsat in Air Traffic Management The three Air Traffic Management pillars: CNS Communication Voice over satcom to FANS1/A digital data-link: Already over oceans (Classic Aero, soon SB-Safety) Navigation Supporting satellitebased navigation aids FAA WAAS EU EGNOS Surveillance From ground radars over land, HF over oceans to ADS-C* over oceans Coming to continents (CPDLC over IRIS) *: Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Contract

The vision and the action Already: Flight tracking Now: SwiftBroadband - Safety ATM airspace over land

Flight tracking issues Main issue in oceanic airspace, no ground surveillance means Commercial aviation: mostly wide body aircraft Need for an affordable solution: To locate aircraft in a more systematic way, with more accuracy than with existing procedures / systems To increase the reactivity in case of abnormal route deviation or event

Surveillance pillar - FANS / ADS-C ADS-C: an existing, robust service to track aircraft - Concept developed by ICAO Regular position reports at pre-set frequencies (periodic contract) Automatically triggered deviation reports (event) Increased rate of periodic contract in case of event Alert in case of position report being not submitted within time limits Possibility of up to five contracts in parallel Number of FANS capable Wide-Body aircraft flying oceanic routes is already nearing 80% New wide-body aircraft are all FANS And virtually all are Classic Aero

FANS / ADS-C coverage from ATSPs Graphic courtesy of The Boeing Company Mostly all oceanic areas covered Geographical coverage is expanding Possible contract with airline s own ground systems but usage is not systematic except over dense routes

Flight tracking capabilities Inmarsat is directly supporting the ICAO/IATA and ITU initiatives Operational today Future Classic Aero Yes, ADS-Contract Free Basic Tracking service offered Classic Aero SwiftBroadband Safety Burst timing and frequency LogOnVerification Timer Reduced Lat, Long, Hdg, Gnd Speed, Track at 2 min interval, and on all ACARS messages. Timer is configurable from ground Studying addition of positioning capability Free ADS-C Basic Tracking More frequent embedded GPS position data SwiftBroadband (non safety) FDR offload on Priority IP service 2 D position at 2 min intervals Studying addition of Alt, Hdg, Gnd Speed and more frequent

ADS-C: A key element of ATM evolution Available now and cost-effective Free of charge for basic Tracking One free ADS-C Position Reporting every 15 offered by Inmarsat to the 80% of wide-body transoceanic aircraft that are FANS equipped Improved separation for dense oceanic routes: Increased reporting (every 5-10 ) to reduce separation Minimal cost to airline (~$10 per flight), far below potential fuel savings A key element of the evolution of ATM Tested and proven for i4d 4D trajectory in the future Open room for more parameters and more triggering events

and Black Box in the cloud Classic Aero Proprietary solutions available SwiftBroadband Need for Industry to define the requirement Prioritised IP with SB Safety

The vision and the action Already: Flight tracking Now: SwiftBroadband - Safety ATM airspace over land

SwiftBroadband safety features Cockpit communications replicating Classic Aero: 2 x Cockpit Voice 1 x FANS1/A Data New features: Prioritised IP Data pipe Aircraft position reporting and tracking Additional to ADS-C and Way-Point reporting ACARS based messaging In-built aircraft position reporting and flight tracking

SwiftBroadband oceanic safety service SwiftBroadband will be preferred communications path, supported by Classic Aero on I4 and on I3 Introducing redundant routes through the use of SwiftBroadband as a parallel network to Classic Aero, it aims at providing: Four 9 s communications system availability ATS data transaction times meeting RCP240 RCP240 Safety service supporting 30/30 NM separations and more to come SwiftBroadband Service I4 Constellation Classic Aero service I3 Constellation NETWORK 1 SwiftBroadband NETWORK 2 Classic Aero I4 2 Services, 2 Constellations, 3 Networks NETWORK 3 Classic Aero I3

For safety services voice and data SVGM Satellite Voice Guidance Material Yet To Be Approved for Routine Safety : SATVOICE Trials Classic Aero, SBB, Iridium GOLD Global Operational Data Link Document Applies for FANS 1/A ACARS only ADS-C and CPDLC Aircraft Reporting and Controller Clearances Performance Approvals by: PARC CWG (FAA Sponsor - USA) Regional ANSP NAVCanada, UKNATS, AirwaysNZ, CASA, FAA, JCAB
