2 Marshfield Airport Management Report October 25th, 2017 The primary construction on the hangar area has been completed. We have new drainage and new asphalt on the airport by the North hangar area. This will greatly improve the drainage that was causing damage to the floors of some of the nearby hangars. We are to keep heavy equipment off the pavement as there are still some potential of damaging the asphalt. During a recent rain shower, the new asphalt did what it was supposed to do and drained the surface water away. New Asphalt Being Placed Drainage facing East The topsoil has been replaced next to the asphalt and seeding has been put down. Drainage Facing West Earth Inc., The contractor on the project still needs to return and complete the additional drain tile that was added to the project to remove a potential water drainage issue in in the project.

3 As part of the project, runway 05/23 was crack filled. Struck and Irwin, the contractor for the crack filling was out at the airport Wednesday and Thursday this past week and filled the cracks on the runway and taxiway leading up to the ramp. We are thankful that we go that all included in the project. The past September we had several groups of boy scouts, parents and chaperones, camping out at the airport so the boy scouts could earn their aviation merit badges. The group spent the weekend at the airport learning about aviation. They all had a great time and thankfully it was reasonable weather for them. The Boy Scouts Trying Paper Airplane Construction / Design / And Distance Flying We were fortunate to have Jurg Grossenbacher from the FAA come to the airport Oct. 16th and put on a Safety Seminar for the local pilots. Jurg gave a presentation and answered questions about personal minimums, weather and other FAA topics. 4 Earlier this month the FAA performed a site inspection of the Simplified Directional Frequency Approach at Marshfield. This inspection was conducted with Bill Berg from Northway Communications, the technician that services the SDF approach at Marshfield. During the inspection, the SDF demonstrated readings that the FAA inspector noticed. The FAA inspector informed us that the the SDF has to be shut down. Bill Berg informed us that the repairs needed for the SDF to have the correct readings are beyond his abilities. The FAA inspector did let us know that if we wish to maintain the approach that we can try to find another technician to repair the approach and be checked out by the FAA to service the SDF. We feel that perhaps it is time to allow this aging approach to end. The SDF approach in Marshfield is the last remaining SDF approach in Wisconsin and we believe in the US. Land Use Seminar Funding of projects is continuing with the typical hurdles from the FAA and State. The expected time for a project before construction is three years to get the paperwork, surveys, environmental assessments and designs completed before a project. The FAA will not fund any fuel farm upgrades, but they will fund entire new fuel farms. Several airports were talking about getting rid of the typical phone line credit card reader that relies on a phone modem to dial in the credit card authorizations. The FAA funding is still in limbo as the House and Senate work to come to terms on the Air Traffic Control Privatization. The talk amongst the airports is there is no need to take it away from the tax payers and put it in the hands of the airlines or group that will be set up to fail leaving all flying public in a bad predicament. The current FAA is funded until March on an extension. Hopefully a new funding bill for the FAA will be in place by then. If not a new extension would more then likely be created to continue funding the FAA and projects. Jeff met with Kyle Lewis, The Great Lakes Regional Manager of the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association. AOPA is fighting against the ATC Privatization, but even they don t know what direction it is going to go. We also discussed the issues we have with lack of ADS-B coverage and how with the military operations area, it would be beneficial. Also we discussed how Minneapolis Center can be difficult with not providing instrument approaches into Marshfield and Black River Falls when the MOA is active. Howard & Kathy Joling, Duffy, Alice Robert and Jeff Gaier attended the 2017 induction ceremony for the Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame, (WAHF). Duffy was inducted into he WAHF in It is always a pleasure to attend to see people that we have worked with on various aviation related events and activities over the years get recognized for their accomplishments. We have noticed an increase in migrating birds in the area. We are flying with students and people on flying on days when the weather is cooperating.
