International tourist arrivals to the region are projected to increase by 331 million in two decades. In tandem, the region's outbound travel represents a fuel for global tourism growth. The ability of the sector to build and protect the economic, social and environmental foundations of nations has elevated the need for understanding of the critical role that travel and tourism plays in national development, especially at the highest levels of political decision making. Bringing together Ministers, Vice Ministers, Heads of Delegation and select industry leaders from across the region, the Regional Ministerial Dialogue will explore: 2

3 Success to date in establishing Tourism as part of the region s wider socio-economic agenda and framework Challenges still present in embedding the tourism sector within the national agenda Areas of opportunity for advancing the growth and development of tourism, magnification of its benefits, within nations and the region at large Potential of follow-up of Open Letter engagements with Heads of Government to re-emhasise the sector s critical messages and assist in embedding the sector in cross-sectoral agendas Ultimately, the Regional Ministerial Dialogue seeks to establish ways in which the Tourism sector can be elevated on the national agenda as a prelude to securing the political and financial support needed by Tourism leaders for advancement of the sector, and therefore greater national socio-economic landscape.
