This presentation will encompass lessons learned while working with Federal, State, & Local Agencies to uphold the conservation needs of the river while also providing closure for a family in need of locating their loved one. BREAKOUT SESSION A 1:15pm - 2:00pm Update on Avalanche Rescue Guidelines Chris Carr An update on the Wilderness Medical Society s avalanche rescue & victim resuscitation guidelines & integration of advanced life support & critical care into the rescue package. The Art & Science of a Knot Tom Wood & Martin Barnett (PMI) This interactive session will involve knot-tying, as well as discussion of rope-strength reduction, & proper identification & application of knots. 9:45am - 10:45am Hands-On: ALS/BLS Airway FFL Staff SCHEDULE Simple, Complicated & Complex: Why Context Matters in SAR Dale Atkins This presentation will step outside the usual SAR-type talk & introduce the differences between linear & predictable, & nonlinear & uncertain domains. Anticipating & properly identifying which context a SAR operation is operating within will improve operational efficiency & rescuer safety. Come & learn new ways to approach SAR problems & new ways to think about rescuer safety. 11:00am - 12:00pm Closing the Gap: Integrating Medical Care Into Search & Rescue Dr. DeWall Many SAR teams struggle with integrating BLS & ALS wilderness medical care in the Search & Rescue setting. This talk explores out of the box thinking that actually works to develop & implement an integrated Search & Rescue / Wilderness Medical Team model. This model was activated in Colorado this year. BREAKOUT SESSION B 2:10pm - 2:55pm Harness Hang Syndrome Marc Beverly This session will discuss new concepts relative to harness suspension stress, as well as cover fact vs. myth. Friction: Friend or Foe in Rope Alpine Rescue Team Systems? (Part 1 of 2*) This hands on training session will turn abstract concepts & blanket statements you ve heard about friction into real world examples. Armed with greater knowledge about friction will enable you to improve your technical rope systems. Hands-On: Lift Ticket FFL Staff 4:10pm - 5:30pm Cellular Forensics in SAR: A Mountain Loren Pfau, Alpine Rescue Team Search Case Study This class will talk about the search management & planning along with the analyzing of the cellphone record forensics provided by the AFRCC/Civil Air Patrol that was used during this 107 day search for two lost hikers in the Mount Evans area of Colorado.
