1 Fri, May 26, 2017 Event Schedule 10:00am Beyond Cold Water Boot Camp - Preconference workshop 10:00am - 5:00pm, May 26 ASPEN room (main level) Beyond Cold Water Boot Camp: A few years ago, the original award-winning Cold Water Boot Camp, DVD, and website were developed by Dr. Geisbrecht (the famous Dr. Popsicle) and the University of Winnipeg to show the real-life effects of the Cold Shock Response, Cold incapacitation, and hypothermia. Now it is time for Beyond Cold Water Boot Camp: advanced training for first responders and boating safety educators to help prevent needless fatalities associated with cold water rescues and circum-rescue collapse. Take this oppertunity to register for the main conference and have a more relaxing breakfast on saturday morning. Our pre-registration is being held at the Banff Avenue Brewing Company, where our friends there have given up some valuable space for you to mingle with other confernece attendees before and after you register. Packing sensibly and efficiently is extremely important. It is impractical to plan on bringing everything plus the kitchen sink. This workshop will discuss some concepts to help everyone pack appropriately for their excursions. This hands on workshops will review the basics of hypothermia management for all patients. Craig McArthur Co-Chair Knots and Rope Systems 1:30pm - 4:00pm, May 27 Surprise Corner - Buffalo St. & Tunnel Mountian Dirve. (above bow falls) This workshop is designed to learn or review basic knots used in high angle and slope rescue, plus review, the basic concepts of these systems. Hands on practice with inert bear spray will provide you with real training experience using this life saving (you and the bear) tool. T Tyler McLaron Guest faculty, Wildsmart Improvised Litters and Carries 1:30pm - 4:00pm, May 27 Fenlands Trail - Meet in parking lot. (West side of Mt. Norquay road) Organized rescue is not always available or the most efficient or prudent way to evacuate the sick or injured from the back country. This hands on workshop will discuss and hand participants practice various improvised litters and ways to carry victims. Mountain Biking and Emergency Field Repair 1:30pm - 4:00pm, May 27 Central Park, meet at gazebo Mountain bike local trails with long-time local Mike Milne. While enjoying great single track the group will stop and discuss simple emergency field repair for common issues encountered while mountain biking. These techniques might make the difference between getting home or being in a survival situation stuck in the back country. A must for anyone who does extended trips away from civilized areas.

Learn simple, thrifty, weight saving techniques, plus discuss advantages and disadvantages of most water purification techniques. Hypothermia is one of search and rescues biggest challenges. Proper management is vital. Miles is a dynamic teacher who s experience includes one of the most remarkable hypothermia survivor rescue stories in the world.
