1 Foundations of Aviation and Aerospace Studies ASCI 100 Embry-Riddle Classroom Course Syllabus Credit Hours: 3 Credits Academic Term: August 2018 May 2019 Meetings: M-F Location: CTAA Building, Cartersville Campus, Rm 505 Modality: Instructor: Blended Online Amy Archer Office Hours: Monday Friday Telephone: ERAU archera6@erau.edu Course Description: The Foundations of Aviation/Aerospace Studies course includes a high-level exposure to the foundation of collegiate-level coursework, the history, careers, disciplines, and operations of the world s aviation/aerospace industry. An introductory focus will be placed on aerospace physics (secondary education core curriculum components), engineering, management, operations, and maintenance. Learning Outcomes: 1. Identify strategies for successfully completing college-level course work. 2. Describe the history and organization of the aviation industry to include the international airspace system. 3. Determine the physics of flight including the aerodynamics and environmental factors that affect performance. Revised: December 21,

2 4. Identify the different types of aircraft and airplane systems, including unmanned air vehicles. 5. Assess the impact of aviation maintenance on aircraft operations. 6. Describe the safety management system and the impact of human factors in aviation safety. 7. Analyze weather as it relates to building an aviation flight plan. 8. Compare and contrast commercial and general aviation. 9. Identify aviation careers and the certifications required for the aviation professional. 10. Describe the history of spaceflight. Giving or receiving help from unauthorized persons or materials during examinations. b. The unauthorized communication of examination questions prior to, during, or following administration of the examination. c. Collaboration on examinations or assignments expected to be individual work. d. Fraud and deceit, that include knowingly furnishing false or misleading information or failing to furnish appropriate information when requested, such as when applying for admission to the University. 3.
