7 DAY 10 Sunday 26th March Arrive Australia We arrive back home in Australia after a life-changing journey to one of the most fascinating countries in the world. What a wild ride! meals: NIL This itinerary is subject to change with any modifications in Community regulations as well as Governmental changes and natural circumstances beyond our control. Country Information Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, is an island republic in the Indian Ocean off the southeastern coast of India. The island is separated from India by the Palk Strait and Gulf of Mannar. Lying between the two nations is a chain of small islands known as Adam s Bridge. The greatest length from north to south is about 440 km (about 273 miles); the greatest width is about 220 km (about 137 miles). The total area is 65,610 square kilometres (25,332 sq miles). The administrative capital is Sri Jayawardenepura (Kotte); and Colombo is the commercial capital and largest city. Sri Lanka s coast, particularly the west, south, and southeast, is palm fringed and indented by lagoons and inlets. The more rugged northeastern coast contains Trincomalee Harbor, considered one of the best natural harbours in the world. Around 74 percent of the population of Sri Lanka is of Sinhalese descent. The largest minority groups are the Sri Lankan Tamils and the Indian Tamils, which together account for about 18 percent of the population. The remaining population includes the descendants of Moors (Arabs), Burghers (Dutch), Malays, and Veddas. The population is 19.3 million, with the majority living in the countryside and only 23% residing in urban areas. Buddhism was first introduced into Sri Lanka in the 3rd century BC, and is the dominant religion in Sri Lanka (approx. 69 percent of the population).15 percent of the population is Hindu, 8 percent is Christian, and 8 percent is Muslim. Religion plays an important role in Sri Lanka; a revival of Buddhism was associated with the rise of Sinhalese nationalism. Most public holidays are based on religious festivals. The annual torchlight temple procession, or Perahara, in which ornamentally covered elephants and hundreds of dancers participate, draws thousands of devotees. Pilgrimages also play an important role here. The most important pilgrimage is to the top of Adams Peak. Muslims believe that Adam and Eve lived here after they left the Garden of Eden. Buddhists visit a rock on the peak that they believe contains one of Buddha s footprints. Another important pilgrimage is to the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy, where it is believed that one of Buddha s teeth is enshrined. The official languages of Sri Lanka are Sinhala, or Sinhalese, and Tamil. Sinhala is spoken by 74 percent of the population. Tamil, a Dravidian language of southern India, is spoken by people living in the northern and eastern provinces. English, the official language of the country until 1957, is still widely used. Climate Sri Lanka is very much a tropical country with distinct dry and wet seasons and a generally humid climate.however the seasons depend on your location on the island. Our trip operates in the South West where the dry season extends from December to March.Average temperature will be around 27 degrees Celsius in coastal flat areas, 20 degrees Celsius in Kandy and may fall to around degrees Celsius in the hills. You should be prepared for cool nights in the hills as low as 10 degrees Celsius World Expeditions Travel Group - Scott Pinnegar 4/14/2016 1:01:47 PM

Proof of citizenship or information required to travel It is your responsibility to obtain proper identification or proof of citizenship as required by the authorities of the destination to which you are travelling. You will not be entitled to a refund if you are denied boarding or entry on any basis, including without limitation, improper documentation or failure to provide information. It is recommended that your passport is valid for six months beyond the date of your return home to your home country. 12. Airlines and other transport providers Any material published by World Expeditions, the Registration Form and these conditions of contract are not issued on behalf of, and do not commit any airline whose services are used or proposed to be used in the course of the tour. In the event that an airline s proposed travel or fare schedule is amended or cancelled, such amendment or cancellation will not be considered a cancellation of the tour by World Expeditions. Any flights or other transport forming part of the tour arrangements are subject to the conditions of the carrying airline or other transport entity, which in most cases limits the airlines or other transport entity s liability to passengers in accordance with applicable international law and conventions. 13. Tour Prices International package prices are per person and based on ground costs, fuel prices, airfares, exchange rates and assumptions made at the time of developing the quote, while domestic package prices are based on the ground costs and assumptions made at the time of developing the quote. World Expeditions tries its utmost not to increase tour prices, however sometimes increases are outside its control. World Expeditions reserves the right to amend tour prices without notice at any time before and including the departure date. Amendments may be necessitated for many reasons including, but not limited to exchange rate fluctuations, increased fuel costs, airfares, airport charges, increases in ground operator service fees, or the need to engage alternative air or ground operators. Any increase in tour prices must be paid prior to the departure date. 14. Exclusions from tour price Without limitation, the following items are excluded from the tour price: personal travel insurance; visa, passport and vaccination charges; extra meals, transport costs, accommodation costs, or other expenses not included in the itinerary; laundry, postage, personal clothing, medical expenses and items of a personal nature; emergency evacuation and/or emergency search charges; additional expenses caused by delay, accidents or disruption of planned itineraries; tips, onboard beverages and excess baggage charges. Refer to our tour notes for full details. 15. Force Majeure If World Expeditions is prevented (directly or indirectly) from performing any of its obligations under this agreement by reason of act of God, strikes, trade disputes, fire, breakdowns, interruption of transport, government or political action, acts of war or terrorism, acts or omissions of a third party or for any other cause whatsoever outside World Expeditions reasonable control, World Expeditions will be under no liability whatsoever to you and may, at its option, by written notice to you either cancel the tour or take any other action as specified in condition Assumption of risk You acknowledge and agree that: by the very nature of adventure travel and trekking holidays, they are more challenging and demanding with a commensurately higher level of risk compared with conventional holidays, and involve potential exposure to injury and possibly death; in the countries and regions in which adventure travel is undertaken, standards of accommodation, transport, health care, hygiene, safety and service provision generally are often not as high as those standards in your country of residence and may require flexibility and patience on your part; operational control of the tour may be in the hands of a third party and that your right of action in regard to any shortcomings of that third party s performance is against the third party and not against World Expeditions; the additional dangers and risks associated with adventure travel may include difficult and dangerous terrain; high altitude; extremes of weather, including sudden and unexpected changes; political instability; remoteness from normal medical services and from communications; and evacuation difficulties in the event of illness or injury; and the enjoyment and excitement of adventure travel is derived in part from the inherent dangers and risks associated with adventure travel and that those inherent dangers and risks are a reason why you wish to undertake the adventure tour, and you have submitted your registration for the tour after giving due consideration of relevant travel information including, without limitation, any relevant information or advice given by the governments of Australia, New Zealand and Canada, the British Foreign Office and US Department of State and that it is your responsibility to acquaint yourself that information or advice, for the above reasons you therefore accept the inherent and increased dangers and risks associated with the proposed adventure tour and the accompanying risk of injury, death or property damage or loss. 17. No Liability You acknowledge and agree that: Where World Expeditions acts as a booking agent for third-party tour operators and accepts no liability for the acts or omissions of those third-party tour operators; and World Expeditions and Epworth Foundation will not be liable for any breach of any law by any person with whom you travel on the tour; and you may not rely on any representations concerning the tour made by World Expeditions which are not contained in these conditions. 18. Release and discharge from all claims To the extent permitted by law, by accepting the additional inherent dangers and risks associated with the tour, you release, waive and discharge all World Expeditions and Epworth Foundation representatives from all claims, actions or losses for personal injury or death, property damage, loss of services, loss of profits, consequential, exemplary, indirect or punitive damages or otherwise which may arise out of or occur during your travel in connection with the tour or any activities conducted in conjunction with the tour unless caused by the reckless conduct of World Expeditions representatives, or in connection with any optional activities which you may undertake during the course of your tour but which do not comprise part of your tour itinerary and you accept that any assistance given to you by World Expeditions representatives in arranging such optional activities will not render the World Expeditions representatives liable to you in any way. 19. Australian Consumer Law Under the Australian Consumer Law, statutory guarantees apply to the supply of recreational services of the kind offered by these terms and conditions. Recreational services is defined as including activities that involve a significant degree of physical exertion or risk undertaken for the purposes of recreation, enjoyment or leisure. These guarantees mean that World Expeditions, as the supplier, is required to ensure that the recreational services it supplies to you are rendered with due care and skill and are fit for their intended purpose. Under the Australian Consumer Law, World Expeditions, as supplier, is entitled to ask you to agree that these statutory guarantees will not apply to you. If you sign this form you will be agreeing that your rights under this agreement, if you are killed or injured because the services provided were not rendered in accordance with these statutory guarantees, are excluded, restricted or modified in the way set out in this condition. To the extent permitted by law, you hereby exclude, release and forever discharge all World Expeditions and Epworth Foundation representatives from all liability for any and all claims, loss, damage, cost or expense arising from your death or your suffering physical or mental injury or any other condition, occurrence, activity, form of behaviour, course of conduct or state of affairs as specified in section 139A of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (except in the case of liability arising from the reckless conduct on the part of the World Expeditions representatives) and connected with your participation in the recreational services which comprise the tour. 20. Privacy You permit World Expeditions to collect personal information from you, or from your medical practitioner, regarding your health and medical condition. You acknowledge that this personal information may be disclosed to World Expeditions representatives in order to ensure your safety and well being but will not be used by them for any other purpose.
