12 How Many People Can Fit in a Raft? We will be taking 4-6 man rafts, or you may opt for a single or double ducky. (you must have a partner for the doubles) You must arrange who is in your raft before the check in. You can arrange your raft with others, Friday around the fire. Go on make friends! The rafts do NOT have a guide in them. Your guides will be in other boats, assisting you. No guide in the raft?? How do we do this? Your guide will be in a kayak or another boat, assisting you down the river. The easiest way to do this is to elect one person in your boat captain. They will call the commands (like HEY YOU! GET YOUR PADDLE IN THE WATER AND HELP OUT!). On all major rapids, your guides will setup and instruct you on the best way to approach and run the rapid. They will also instruct on safety procedures and what to do if you get stuck on a rock, fall out, etc Please refer to the trip waiver at the end of your packet for information on liability and risks. Do I tip the guide? Yes, it is highly recommended. We have accounted for a small tip per person ($5), but more is appreciated if you dig the trip, so please bring some cash. Are Videos and Pictures Available? You will receive a picture disk from the rafting company AFTER the trip. Shelli will be making copies and have it to you at a meeting in August. For those who cannot attend meetings, please provide a postage paid envelope for DVDs at the rafting trip. What about My Medical Condition? Please inform your raft guide when you check in for your trip, of any particular medical conditions you may have including diabetes, asthma, epilepsy, heart conditions, bee sting allergies, and pregnancy. We highly recommend that you consult your physician prior to rafting if you have a particular medical condition and strongly warn against rafting for women in their first trimester of pregnancy. I want to buy beer once I get into PA where can I do that? You cannot buy beer at regular stores in PA. You must purchase beer at distributors, 6 pack shacks or bars. With that said, the MOMENT you turn right onto 381 from Rte 31 (about 5 minutes after you get off of PA Turnpike exit 91), you will see Sarnelli s on the left (use the bottom drive) which sells cases, and the 6 Pack Shack on the right, which sells 6 packs. You may also get 6 packs to go at the Pub or Ohiopyle Café Bar. Can I bring a dish to share for Saturday? OF COURSE! Bring some booze too, if you so choose 12
13 Where do I purchase firewood? Anywhere you see a stand along 381 on your way to the campground firewood is not provided, so we must all pitch in. If you live in another state you cannot bring wood over state lines by law. ( nuf said) 13
