2 Itinerary Day 1 - Sunday, September 4: Quebec City All participants will meet in the late afternoon for introductions and to attend an extensive briefing covering the general procedures of our journey as we prepare for tomorrow s departure. Afterwards, we ll enjoy a welcome cocktail and dinner at the hotel. Hotel: Chateau Frontenac Welcome Cocktail and Dinner included Day 2 - Monday, September 5: Quebec City Kuujjuaq, Canada Kangerlussuaq, Greenland NM We ll fly over the immense forests and numerous lakes of Labrador on our way to Kuujjuaq for a technical stop to refuel and have lunch. Our flight then continues over southern Greenland s beautiful scenery before landing at Kangerlussuaq. Also known as Sonder Stroemfiord, Kangerlussuaq was an American airbase until September Almost all of the permanent structures in the town were built during the American occupation of the site. Just outside the airport you ll find fascinating wildlife with chances of seeing musk ox, reindeers, arctic foxes, falcons, eagles, and ravens. Hotel: Hotel Kangerlussuaq Day 3 - Tuesday, September 6: Kangerlussuaq Reykjavik, Iceland 730 NM Fly to Reykjavik. The Hotel Borg overlooks the beautiful square of Austurvöllur, in the heart of Reykjavík, across from Althingi, the Icelandic parliament and the cathedral. We ll go for a swim in the Blue Lagoon, Iceland s most unique and popular attraction. Communicating a world of healing power, wellness and beauty, the Blue Lagoon was founded on a unique source of geothermal seawater that originates in Iceland's extreme environment. Hotel: Hotel Borg Day 4 - Wednesday, September 7: Reykjavik, Iceland Enjoy an incredible full day Super Jeep tour where you will witness Iceland s most exciting natural attractions. First we ll visit Thingvellir National Park a unique place of beauty with its interesting geology and history before heading eastbound on the mountain road to Lyngdalsheiði to view the lava fields on the hills above Laugarvatn. At Haukadalur, you ll see the famous Strokkur geyser erupting and spewing boiling water into the air. We ll spend some time here observing the eruptions and exploring the hot springs before heading up to the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall cascading into the white Hvita River along with glacial water. 3 Day 5 - Thursday, September 8: Reykjavik Bergen, Norway 800 NM Fly to Bergen. Upon arrival, we ll transfer to the Clarion Admiral hotel situated in the heart of the historic harborfront district of Bergen, known as the Gateway to the Fjords. Hotel: Clarion Admiral Day 6 - Friday, September 9: Bergen We ll head out to the Bergen pier to board the express ferry bound for Flåm. Enjoy breathtaking scenery as we cruise along the famous Sognefjord. In Flåm there will be free time to explore before boarding the renowned Flåm Railway train to Myrdal. During the short rail journey you climb 2,850 up a steep mountain gorge where you are rewarded with spectacular views of the fjords, waterfalls and mountainous forests below. Once at Myrdal, we connect with the modern express train returning to Bergen. Hotel: Clarion Admiral Day 7 - Saturday, September 10: Bergen Stockholm, Sweden 390 NM Fly to Stockholm. There will be a technical stop in Bergen to refuel.rich in history and tradition, the more than 130 year old Grand Hotel Stockholm occupies a prime position on the city's waterfront overlooking the Royal Palace and Gamla Stan, Stockholm s old town, a timeless classic that has played a pivotal role in shaping Stockholm as the cosmopolitan city that it is today. The hotel has borne witness to some of the world's greatest achievements. Since 1901, the Nobel Prize laureates and their families have all been guests of the Grand Hotel Stockholm and the list of royalty, heads of state and artists who have stayed is impressive. Hotel: Grand Hotel Stockholm Day 8 - Sunday, September 11: Stockholm Enjoy a city tour with our local guide to visit the wealthy Ostermalm District with the central city areas of Hotorget and Sergel Plaza and the Renaissance styled Royal Palace. Next we ll explore the 18th to 20th century buildings in the Kungsholmen district including City Hall (this is where the Nobel Prize Award dinners are held every year). Our drive continues to the southern shore of Saltsjon island for an amazing view of the city from the top of picturesque Fjallgatan Street. Continue to Stockholm s charming Old Town, Gamla Stan, with time to stroll along the charming cobblestoned streets. 4 Day 10 - Tuesday, September 13: Stockholm Krakow, Poland 560 NM Fly to Krakow - one of 12 on the UNESCO list of great historic cities of the world. The Hotel Copernicus is situated on Kanonicza Street, Krakow s oldest street that winds its way toward Wawel Royal Castle the historic seat of Polish kings. Several centuries ago the hotel building was the residence of cathedral canons. Nicolaus Copernicus, famous astronomer and father of the heliocentric theory lodged here whenever he visited Krakow as a Canon of the Archbishopric of Warmia. Hotel: Hotel Copernicus Day 11 - Wednesday, September 14: Krakow Meet our local guide for a visit to the infamous Auschwitz concentration camp - now preserved as a memorial to the 1.1 million people of 27 nationalities who perished there. Auschwitz was only partially destroyed by the fleeing Nazis, and many of the original brick buildings still stand as a bleak testament to the camp's history. 13 of the 30 surviving prison blocks now house museum exhibitions - either general or dedicated to victims from particular countries or races that lost citizens at Auschwitz. Later we ll return to Krakow for a visit the Royal Castle and the Cathedral located on Wawel Hill. Hotel: Hotel Copernicus Day 12 - Thursday, September 15: Krakow Vienna, Austria 175 NM Fly to Austria to discover one of the most beautiful cities in Europe - Vienna. Home to some of the most beautiful Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo architecture in the world, here you will find the houses of Vienna s great composers, including Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Haydn, Brahms and Johann Strauss, all carefully preserved. Hotel: Hotel Imperial Day 13 - Friday, September 16: Vienna Meet our local guide for a walking tour of Old Town with its St. Stephen's Cathedral, Austria's most eminent Gothic edifice, housing a wealth of art treasures. After lunch we ll visit the grandiose 17 th century Schloss Schöenbrunn Palace a former imperial 1,441-room Rococo summer residence. The palace and gardens illustrate the tastes, interests, and aspirations of successive Habsburg monarchs. Hotel: Hotel Imperial Day 14 Saturday, September 17: Vienna Santorini, Greece 810 NM Fly to Greece. We have selected the volcanic island of Santorini due to its well-known magnificence and its truly unique characteristics; it combines an array of spectacular features that cannot be found anywhere else. The traditional villages of the island, built on tall cliffs, offer a breathtaking view of golden sunsets over the submerged volcano. Santorini combines colorful sandy and rocky beaches, wonderful archaeological sites, traditional Cycladic architecture, and the impressive Caldera and volcanic area. 5 Day 15 Sunday, September 18: Santorini Today we will cruise the Caldera and Volcano Island on a private catamaran (lunch onboard is included). Hotel: Kirini Suites & Spa Day 16 Monday, September 19: Santorini Today is at leisure to explore the island or simply relax at the hotel. Hotel: Kirini Suites & Spa Breakfast and Dinner Included Day 17 Tuesday, September 20: Santorini Catania, Italy 510 NM Fly to Catania on the island of Sicily. Upon arrival, we ll transfer to Taormina s seaside district on the Mediterranean Sea. Set on its own exclusive beach, beside one of the most beautiful coastlines in all of Italy, Villa Sant Andrea overlooks the tranquil aquamarine sea. Built by an aristocratic family in 1830 among lush, subtropical gardens, this secluded retreat retains all the charm of a private residence. Relax in a sun-dappled seat or enjoy a short cable car ride to the center of Taormina with its many cultural attractions and sophisticated shopping scene. Hotel: Villa Sant Andrea Day 18 Wednesday, September 21: Catania We ll journey along Sicily s eastern coast, past varied landscapes, gardens and traditional villages including Fiumefreddo di Sicilia before heading inland for a visit to a local winery. Rising in elevation, enjoy views of Mt Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage site that dominates the Sicilian landscape. Hotel: Villa Sant Andrea Day 20 Friday, September 23: Catania Lyon, France Cork, Ireland NM Fly to historic Cork known as Ireland s little Venice. Upon arrival, transfer to Hayfield Manor. Hotel: Hayfield Manor Day 21 Saturday, September 24: Cork Meet our local guide as we set out to explore beautiful County Cork on Ireland s east coast. We ll visit the famous Blarney Castle. Explore the castle and its grounds, kiss the stone and enjoy the breathtaking view from the top. Then we ll experience a scenic drive through Cork City to view some of the city s highlights including St. Finbarre s Cathedral, Shandon Bells, English Historic Market and the Lee River. 6 Harbour and its 2 forts - Charles Fort and James Fort. We ll visit the charming harbor town of Kinsale and before returning to the hotel we ll make a quick stop at Cobh - famous for being the last departure point of the Titanic. Hotel: Hayfield Manor Day 22 Sunday, September 25: Cork Today is at leisure to relax or explore on your own. Situated nearby the city center, all of the attractions of the city are a mere ten minute stroll from Hayfield Manor including St. Patricks Street and the heart of the shopping district. Hotel: Hayfield Manor Day 23 Monday, September 26: Cork Reykjavik, Iceland Nuuk, Greenland NM After an in-depth briefing, we will launch for our over-water crossing to Nuuk in Greenland. There will be a technical stop in Reykjavik to refuel. Hotel: Hans Egede Day 24 Tuesday, September 27: Nuuk, Greenland Goose Bay, Canada Bangor, ME NM After breakfast and another in-depth briefing, we will head for Bangor, ME with a stop in Goose Bay for lunch and to refuel. Breakfast included NOTES: Because of the numerous climate zones we will be crossing and the complex logistics required for this journey, all participants should be ready for some last minute changes. On every Flying Day, lunch is not included. For safety we recommend you order a lunch box at the hotel on the day before departure which will be charged to your room. Do not eat at the airports! There is no tour on the schedule of each day of arrival so you can relax at your beautiful hotels. Our half-day city tours are normally scheduled for the morning after our arrival at a destination. All dinners while on this tour are a la carte. A Pilots Meeting will be scheduled the evening prior to the next day s flight for each destination. 7 Stans, Switzerland Option 2 days / 1 night Day 19 Thursday, September 22: Catania Buochs, Switzerland 640 NM Fly to Buochs for a visit to Stans. The Hotel Pilatus - Kulm is situated on the side of Mount Pilatus and offers incomparable panoramic views of the surrounding Alps, Lake Lucerne and the city of Lucerne. After lunch there will be a visit to the Pilatus factory. 8 Terms & Conditions Our land program includes: Presence of an Air Journey tour leader who will facilitate clearances, Immigration, refueling, flight planning, and provide help with any difficulty that might arise Full-time services of a professional Air Journey guide and local experts Lodging: for 24 days, 23 nights Meals: All breakfasts and most lunches and dinners. Wine selected by Air journey is included with dinner. All other beverages are not included. All sightseeing, hotel taxes, gratuities and guide services as indicated in the itinerary Round trip transfers between the airport and hotel Customs expediting Customs and Immigration forms (filled by Air Journey when possible) Briefing prior to every flight covering all aspects of the flight Our land program does not include: Travel Insurance (available, call us for details) Airport departure taxes Beverages Personal expenses such as laundry, room service, communication charges and other incidentals Please note that hotel accommodations and sightseeing are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances. Air Journey reserves the right to amend the order of sightseeing as necessary. Every effort will be made to operate tours as planned but alterations may occur after the final itinerary has been issued. Passports are mandatory for the Journey. Air Journey has quoted this itinerary with a minimum participation of 5 airplanes. The Registration fee includes: Extensive Navigation log (airports, route, frequencies, information of airspace, nav-aids, reporting points, international flight plan) tailored for each aircraft; Flight plans and eapis manifest (departure and arrival) filed on your behalf; Pilot briefing prior to each day s flight; Weather website with constant updates showing TAF, METAR, Wind Aloft, prognostic forecast and review; Fuel availability confirmed along the route of flight; Jeppesen navigation charts and approach plates; Flight bag and collared, cotton shirt for the pilot with his name and aircraft tail number embroidered on the upper front. Shirts are available for passengers and crew at an additional cost. Cancellation, refunds: a) Cancellation by the client: Is always required in writing and is subject to the following schedule of dates, whereby some or all moneys paid will be retained: i) Given outside of 120 days of departure: AJ retains $500 per person and plane registration fee ii) Between 120 and 90 days of departure: AJ retains 50% of tour cost and plane registration fee iii) Between 89 and 45 days of departure: AJ retains 75% of tour cost and plane registration fee iv) Less than 45 days or no show of departure: AJ retains 100% of tour cost and plane registration fee b) Cancellation by AJ: Should AJ cancel the tour after deposits have been received due to fewer than the minimum participants required, the full deposit will be refunded. Should AJ cancel the tour at any time due to factors beyond their control (including war, flood, force of nature, riot, civil action), they will refund the client whatever portion of moneys are reimbursed by ground operators and accommodation suppliers. Survival equipment is available for rental on a daily basis and will be waiting for you at our departure point. Contact us for details. Life vests are mandatory. A life raft is recommended. Travel and Cancellation Insurance Travel and Cancellation Insurance is strongly recommended and not included in the package but it can be purchased from Air Journey for approximately 6% of the cost of the Journey.
