2 Itinerary Day 1 - Monday, December 4: Key West, FL Flores, Guatemala 645 NM We will meet this morning at the Key West International Airport for a detailed briefing. Fly to Mundo Maya (Flores) International Airport where we will clear customs in Guatemala. The old part of the city of Flores is located on an island in Lake Peten Itza, It was here, on this island on the shore of Lake Petén Itzá, that the last independent Maya state held out against the Spanish conquerors. The Spanish did not manage to conquer the island until 1697, when they marched in, attacked via boats, and destroyed it. From the ruins of Noh Petén arose the modern city of Flores. There will be a visit to the island city of Flores to explore the cobblestone streets flanked by charming houses and handicraft stores. We ll enjoy a typical local lunch and then transfer to our hotel, Las Lagunas Boutique Hotel. At the end of the day we will meet to have a welcome cocktail before dinner. Hotel: Las Lagunas Boutique Hotel Lunch, Welcome Cocktail and Dinner included Day 2 - Tuesday, December 5: Tikal In the early morning, for those who desire, and prior to sunrise, we will head to the famous Mayan ruins of Tikal to walk through the jungle and climb on top of the Jaguar Temple to await the awakening of the jungle with its unique sounds and amazing light! We will spend part of the morning exploring the other temples of this unique site and return to the hotel for lunch and an afternoon on the shores of Lake Flores. Hotel: Las Lagunas Boutique Hotel Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included Day 3 - Wednesday, December 6: Flores Guatemala City to Antigua 145 NM Our flight today brings us to Guatemala City. After clearing customs, we ll transfer to our hotel. The boutique Hotel El Convento, located in front of the traditional Convent of Las Capuchinas, was established in 1776 and is situated in the heart of the city. 3 Day 4 - Thursday, December 7: Antigua Depart this morning for a full day tour of Antigua and the surrounding area. We ll discover the ancient capital of Antigua nestled at the foot of three beautifully shaped extinct volcanoes. Antigua may be the most outstanding and well-preserved city in Spanish America. From its colonial architecture to its beautiful surroundings, you ll feel like you stepped back in time 300 years while strolling through town on the cobblestone streets to experience the splendors of ancient times! Hotel: Hotel el Convento Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included Day 5 - Friday, December 8: Antigua Today is free to explore the beautiful town of Antigua for its history and culture. Though partially destroyed by the 1773 earthquake, it still preserves its colonial character with ornate churches, convents and Spanish-style homes. It is also home to some of the best quality arts and crafts in the country. Take an optional helicopter tour and lunch to nearby serene and unspoiled Lake Atitlan. Situated at a mile-high, this spectacularly beautiful lake is set among volcano peaks and surrounded by 12 Indian villages named after the 12 apostles. Hotel: Hotel el Convento Day 6 - Saturday, December 9: Antigua to Guatemala City Rivas, Nicaragua 325 NM Fly along the Pacific coast of Central America to Rivas, Nicaragua where we will land at the new Costa Esmeralda Airport. Transfer to the luxurious Mukul Beach, Golf & Spa Resort. Set on a spectacularly beautiful four-mile stretch of white sandy beach, enjoy breathtaking views of Nicaragua s Emerald Coast. Mukul means secret in Mayan! Hotel: Mukul Resort Day 7 Sunday, December 10: Rivas Today is at leisure to relax or explore on your own. Choose from the optional activities available at the resort including biking through the rain forest, golfing in the jungle or on the oceanshore, and day-tripping to the historic village of Granada. 4 Day 9 Tuesday, December 12: Rivas Liberia, Costa Rica 60 NM Today s flight takes us to Liberia. Situated along a coastal hillside to an isthmus of golden sand, the Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo provides an ambience of simple luxury in a pristine natural setting. Enjoy two unspoiled beaches, an indigenous spa, championship golf and the magic of the tropical dry forest. Hotel: Four Seasons Resort at Peninsula Papagayo Day 10 - Wednesday, December 13: Peninsula Papagayo This morning there will be free time to relax. Optional activities include fishing, an exciting canopy tour, horseback riding, golf and tennis. In the afternoon we will enjoy an afternoon sunset catamaran cruise. There will be an optional stop in Belize to refuel. 5 OPTIONAL BROWNSVILLE, TX DEPARTURE ($295 pp based on double occupancy): Sunday, December 3: Brownsville, TX Veracruz, Mexico (430 NM) Meet this morning at the Brownsville Airport for a briefing and then fly to Veracruz to clear Customs and Immigration. In the afternoon visit Veracruz, one of the most dynamic but truly Mexican cities and site of the first Olmec pyramid with a tour of Parroquia Church, Fortress of San Juan de Ulua, Fort of Santiago and Villa del Mar. Hotel: Hotel Emporio Dinner included Monday, December 4: Veracruz Flores, Guatemala (420 NM) This morning head to the Veracruz Airport for your flight to Flores. Upon arrival, transfer to the Las Lagunas Boutique Hotel where you will join the rest of the group for a welcome cocktail. Every effort will be made to operate tours as planned, but alterations may occur after the final itinerary has been issued. Passports are mandatory for the Journey. Air Journey has quoted this itinerary with a minimum participation of 5 airplanes. The Registration fee includes: Extensive Navigation log (airports, route, frequencies, information of airspace, nav-aids, reporting points, international flight plan) tailored for each aircraft; Flight plans and eapis manifest (departure and arrival) filed on your behalf; Pilot briefing prior to each day s flight; Weather website with constant updates showing TAF, METAR, Wind Aloft, prognostic forecast and review; Fuel availability confirmed along the route of flight; Flight bag and collared, cotton shirt for the pilot with his name and aircraft tail number embroidered on the upper front. Shirts are available for passengers and crew at an additional cost. Cancellation, refunds: a) Cancellation by the client: Is always required in writing and is subject to the following schedule of dates, whereby some or all moneys paid will be retained: i) Given outside of 90 days of departure: AJ retains $500 per person and plane registration fee ii) Between 90 and 60 days of departure: AJ retains 50% of tour cost and plane registration fee iii) Between 59 and 45 days of departure: AJ retains 75% of tour cost and plane registration fee iv) Less than 45 days or no show of departure: AJ retains 100% of tour cost and plane registration fee b) Cancellation by AJ: Should AJ cancel the tour after deposits have been received due to fewer than the minimum participants required, the full deposit will be refunded. Should AJ cancel the tour at any time due to factors beyond their control (including war, flood, force of nature, riot, civil action), they will refund the client whatever portion of moneys are reimbursed by ground operators and accommodation suppliers. Survival equipment is available for rental on a daily basis and will be waiting for you at our departure point. Contact us for details. Life vests are mandatory. A life raft is recommended. Travel and Cancellation Insurance Travel and Cancellation Insurance is strongly recommended and not included in the package but it can be purchased from Air Journey for approximately 6% of the cost of the Journey.
