A short pleasant walk for those who like chat. Follow me through wonderful shady forest on paths you have not been on before. Bring R5 for the car guard, a snack and water. Cell no ANNIVERSARY HIKE - LIONS HEAD Commemorate the 29th anniversary of the Trails Club by joining us on a hike up Lions Head. Great views and champagne at the p OLD CROCKS SILVERMINE SURPRISE We will slow walk up the river, around the dam, up the jeep track a turn off the left and then down back the cars. Rain cancells. Cell BERG RIVER DAM TO FORTS NEK Start at Berg River dam and hike up a kloof Forts Nek overlooking Theewaterskloof dam. Circular route returning along the edge of the Berg river dam the gate. Stunning all round views. Bring warm clothing and 2L water minimum. We will be hiking at a good pace. Sandy Moss will co lead this hike. Phone book: or ELSIE'S PEAK CIRCULAR From Golconda Road hike up Elsies Peak via the Quarry. Descend on the Fish Hoek side and circle back via the saddle and the Glencairn rock face STEENBRAS RIVER We head out just beyond Gordon's Bay explore the lower Steenbras gorge. Pretty river course with limited shade and cover & a few small pools along the route. Lunch & swimming sps at the quietest of the three p pools. The more energetic can climb the ridge for the view from the p before we return. Permits R20. Please phone Phillip on or ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Our 29th Annual General Meeting! Come early and have a pub supper before the meeting MUIZENBERG PEAK Hike up Muizenberg Peak, then along the p of Muizenberg mountain wards Lower Steenberg peak. 2 27/03/ /04/ /04/2011 ROCK HOPPER Starting at Eerste Tol, a long, strenuous day of rockhopping down the Witte river from the p of Bain's Kloof Tweede Tol. Lots of swimming and beautiful scenery along the way. Must be an experienced boulder hopper and have no knee or ankle problems. Bring your Wild Card or. Phone book: or TABLE MOUNTAIN - SLEEPOVER Ever thought you would like sleep on p of Table Mountain? Well here is your chance. For April 1st and 2nd (Fri & Sat nights) I have booked the cottage up near De Villiers Dam, it sleeps 10 and has both gas and solar power and also big lounge/dining area with open fireplace. Kitchen is fully equipped. I will have arrange for us park cars in Orange Kloof as I don't think anybody will want leave their cars unattended in the Constantia Nek area for 2 nights. This means we will have walk from Orange Kloof up the Bridle Path (Cement Road) get the p. I think this is actually an added bonus for us. Bring food for two nights and your sleeping bag and pillow. R40 10 Distance: 12km 15/03/11 R400 R Distance: 6km Portage - I can get a permit for a bakkie or 4x4 carry our stuff up for us. So if anyone has this kind of vehicle available them it will save us paying for TMNP do it for us. Contact me on if you want do this first ever hike with TCSA. Cell: /04/ /04/ /04/ /04/2011 Nerina De Villiers Parking area on Main Road at Clovelly Constantia Nek Parking near the Alphen Hotel Start Time: 07:30 Kenilworth Centre or Perigrine Farmstall FISHHOEK WETLAND TO PEER'S CAVE Start at the area at Clovely beach, walk around the wetland area between Clovely and Fish Hoek and then through the dunes Peer's Cave. Hike along the ridge, ending at Oukaapseweg. Car shuffle needed. VLAKKENBERG FROM CONSTANTIA NEK A hike up from Constantia Nek East Fort near Hout Bay; steep initially but delightful views and easy walking through fynbos s known for it's great variety. A visit the manganese mine near the finish if time permits. Bring at least 2L water and lunch snacks etc. Car shuttle required. Cell OLD CROCKS CONSTANTIA GREENBELT An easy slow walk through the Constantia Green Belt linking up the Alphen, Diep River and Klaasenbosch Trails Constantia Nek and back. Rain cancells. Cell PERDEBERG Hike in the Highlands State Forest Perdeberg overlooking Kleinmond. Great views and flora. This is in the internationally famous Kogelberg biosphere. Limited 12 people. 3 22/04/2011 Monday 25/04/2011 LEOPARDS TRAIL BONNIEVALE Easter weekend 2011, 22nd 25th April, 3 nights Stay in Leopards Trail guesthouse on working Sitruspoort farm Bonnievale, just over 2 hours from Cape Town. Plenty of bedrooms, 4 x bathrooms, max 24 people Day hikes of between 4km and 20km below the Swellendam mountains or just hike around the farm Also offers mountain biking, fishing, canoeing on dams, swimming. The guesthouse is against the foothills of the Langeberg mountains. We will go on the lower path Lower Steenberg Peak. Climb up the cave for tea and return via Fat Ladies Cave and down lower Steenberg path the cars. Bring R5 for the car guard, water and a snack. A bit of scrambling involved but not difficult for the elderly. Cell TABLE MOUNTAIN CLASSIC This ever popular hike starts by taking the cableway the p of Table Mountain (bring money for fare). We will then traverse across Table Mountain for breafast at McLears Beacon, the Smuts Track, aquaduct and back table via the 5 dams Constantia Nek. Cold beers await us there. Beautiful scenery en route. A long hike, but moderate. Car shuffle required. Bad weather cancells. Cell CONSTANTIABERG GROTTOS Hike up the p of Constantiaberg investigate some interesting grots.we will ascend from the p of Blackburn Ravine and descend along the ridge wards the fire look-out. Bring a rch, and be prepared for some bush wacking. BASKLOOF (SCARBOROUGH) TO GROOTKOP Starting at Baskloof private reserve we will leave Scarborough and follow the kloof via pristine flora in virgin terriry along an hisric wagon trail Grootkop and Grootberg cracks ST. JAMES PEAK STONEHENGE A ramble above the coastal cliffs in St James area, including some minor scrambling at Snhenge. Meet at mid Boyes Drive on the bend with the Oukraal board. Cell KOGELBERG - LEOPARD'S GORGE Starting at Oudebosch in the Kogelberg Nature Reserve, ascend the Oudebosch river valley the p of Leopard's Gorge, where the waterfall plunges in Leopard's Kloof and there are excellent views of Betty's Bay. Descend Harold Porter Botanical Gardens via the gorge path. Car shuttle required. Cell OLD CROCKS HIKE Take the train from Fish Hoek Simon's Town and walk back along the coast Fish Hoek. Meet at 12:30 at Fish Hoek station. The train leaves at 13:00 so don't be late. Rain cancells. Cell R15 R /04/11 Distance: 12km 3

Then up Constantiaberg the TV wer. Down Blackburn and along the Panorama path Noordhoek Peak and along the Amphitheatre Path and returning the cars. This is a full day hike which may be shortened depending on the weather. Bring your Wild Card or R15 entrance fee. Phone at or GIFKOMMETJIE TO CAPE POINT A walk along the Atlantic coast from Gifkommetjie the Cape of Good Hope and up along the cliffs with spectacular views ending at Cape Point. Bring Wild Card + ID or entrance fee. Car shuttle is required. Cell DEVILS PEAK Starting from Rhodes Memorial we will hike up Mowbray Ridge via the Knife Edge the Minor Peak before going the p of Devils Peak. Some scrambling. Bring water, lunch etc. Cell FISH RIVER CANYON - NAMIBIA Hike the second largest canyon system in the world from Hobas Ais-Ais over 5 days. Be prepared for river crossings. Experience the spectacular vistas of the Fish River Canyon where the river forms a winding oasis in a desert landscape with hot springs and a bit of hisry. Tents are required for camping at the end but not for the hike. We will travel up on 3 June and descend in the canyon on the 4th ie a day early. We will reach Ais-Ais on the 9th of June where there are more hot springs. Camping costs at Abiqua River camp (1 night) and Ais-Ais (1 or 2 nights), park entrance and shuttle fee are not included. Passports, (no visas needed for South Africans) medical certificates and vehicle registration papers are needed. Phone for details and book. Don't miss this one LIGHTS OF FALSE BAY This is a night hike the p of Swartkopberg, take in the light surrounding False Bay. A good rch with a spare set of batteries, and warm clothing is a pre-requisite take part in this hike. NEWLANDS FOREST A delightful walk in this beautiful forest. We wiil go through Kirstenbosch for tea on one of the lawns. Bring R5 for the car guard, water and a tea snack BLACKBURN KLOOF CIRCUIT Hike from East Fort Blackburn Kloof. Up the conur path along the side of Constantiaberg and back East Fort. Bring rain gear but heavy rain cancells. Cell CAPE POINT - FALSE BAY COASTAL WALK After dropping cars at the end, we will start at the Smitwinkel Bay viewpoint south above the cliffs going over Judas peak, around sberg, over Kanonkop and down Boor se Skerm. The path continues next the sea past Bordjies Drift and Buffels Bay ending at Rooikrans. Bring your Wild card or pay an entrance fee. Bring your Wild Card or entrance fee. Give yourself time get through the gate. Cell or OLD CROCKS SLANGOLIE RAVINE We will take a walk along the pipe track Slangolie overhang have tea and back the same way. Great views over Camps Bay. Savour the serenity of the dam whilst enjoying tea. Return via Grootkop which we will climb for the views, before descending again. Bring and braai follow in Egret Road - permits required so call early. SILVERMINE - PETER'S PASSAGE AND OLD FARTS CRACK Hike from Sunbird Valley and explore some interesting cracks in non-paying Silvermine area. Down 's Passage, though Old Fart's Crack Klein-Tuinkop. Some easy scrambling and bundu bashing. Phone book: or WHALE TRAIL A 5 day trail at De Hoop Nature Reserve. Spectacular scenery from Potberg and along the coast. Day 1: Climb over Potberg and stay at Cupidos Kraal hut. Day 2: Hike down Noetsie Bay. Day 3: along the coast via Stinkgat (swimming) Hamerkop. Day 4: along the coast Vaalkrans. Day 5: along the beach Koppie Alleen. Lots of whales from July November. See for further details. Portage service available.
