Return by a lower route through the Sivertree forest POST OUTENIQUA DAY HIKES This is the second part of the New Year trip. Stay at Sweetwater farm for 3 nights See Palmiet house is an old resred farmhouse. The house has 5 bedrooms & 3 bathrooms. Retun home on 6/1/2015 (or stay on in your own accommodation). Hikes will be arranged in the Natures Valley area & possibly Plett. Book with the Outeniqua trail. Full payment will be required by end Ocber ELSIE'S PEAK VIA CAVE OVERHANG Starting at Golconda Rd parking, hike above the quarry a cave overhang above False Bay, then up the peak. Return along the ridge and back over the saddle and along the diagonal. HANGKLIP TO PRINGLE BAY The hike starts easily along Hangklip. Once we start ascending, the slope becomes steep. On p, there is a breathtaking 360' view. The descent is much more gradual with pretty scenery. Bring plenty of water. EAGLES NEST Hike up Constantia Corner Eagles Nest enjoy the sunset and supper. ELANDSPAD Hike up the Elandspad river, first along the side of the valley and boulder hopping in the river bed. Not for beginners. A long day. Book with your Wild Card or pay the permit fee. Phone or convenor at mervyn.henderson@gmail.com PIPE TRACK FROM KLOOF NEK An easy walk along the pipe track with some ups and downs through trees, fynbos and maybe a waterfall. Beautiful views over Camps Bay and Oudekraal JONKERSHOEK WATERFALLS A visit two waterfalls in the Jonkershoek nature reserve. Bring costume, wild card and cash for snack/petrol costs. Please book for planning purposes MYBURGH WATERFALL A walk along the conur path Myburgh's Ravine which we will ascend by boulder hopping. The ravine is shaded by indigenous trees. We hope see the red Disas which flower once a year at the waterfall, where we will have tea. Return the same way. Visirs phone leader in advance. HERMANUS- DE KELDERS TO GROTTO BEACH Walk along the limesne cliffs from where we may get good sightings of whales. At Duiwelsgat, we will explore a scary hole in the cliff & pass through some caves used by sne age people up 80,000 years ago. From here, we can walk barefoot most of the way along the beach known as Die Plaat where we may see otters but if not, their spoor, clawless tracks & their shell filled droppings. We will find spots have a cool dip in the sea. Towards the end, we wil cross the mouth of the Klein River lagoon, which may or may not be closed. If not, we will wade across & then walk Grot Beach. Bring money for refreshments afterwards VLAKKENBERG BACK TABLE Starting at Price Drive, the hike ascends steeply initially, but worth it for the great views from the p of Vlakkenberg. The fynbos should be good, also the views of Orange Kloof and surrounds. CONSTANTIA NEK TO WATERWORKS MUSEUM & AQUADUCT Hike from Constantia Nek the Waterworks museum then back via the Aquaduct, the p of Skelen Gorge & Nursery Ravine the Overseer's cottage. Enjoy the disas! Bring plenty of water as this is a long hike. GREEN POINT SOCIAL Sociable meal.a brisk walk dinner at Aries (Greek Restaurant ) for a tasty inexpensive meal with fast service. R20 Distance: 0km Fitness: Exposure: Technical: Distance: 11km Distance: 16km Distance: 6km Anthony Sneath John Powell Brian Ford :00 Silvermine car park (non-paying side) OYSTERCATCHER TRAIL & TSITSIKAMMA DAY HIKES This 4 night trail in the Mossel Bay area is rated 1 of the p 5 trails in the country! This will also be the first time that the club is hiking this trail - slackpacking and self catering. Thereafter, the group moves on Forest house at Wild Spirit, the Crags. From here, we visit World of birds and Monkeyland and do day hikes in Knysna, Robberg and around Natures Valley. Contact Anthony for further details. SILVERMINE - WOLFKOP & SPLITKOP Hike up Wolfkop then over the shoulder of Steenberg Higher Peak shoulder across masts. Continue around the masts and up the side of Splitkop the Fat Lady's Cave. Return car park. Great views. KLEINMOND NATURE RESERVE CIRCUIT Starting from Kleinmond, hike via the Conur path Dot's Dash. Then down Klipspringer path the picturesque Fairy Glen, up Kasteelkopnek and along the Conur path back the cars. Tea and cake in Kleinmond afterwards so bring money. Best fynbos in the Cape! Bring costume and Wild card / money for permit and tea afterwards. Hike suitable for beginners. ANNIVERSARY HIKE - LIONS HEAD Join us for the annual climb the p of Lion's Head with it's stunning views. Bring snacks & your glass for the "champagne" ast at the p! KALK BAY- CAVE PEAK RIDGE The path leads up from Godfrey rd above Kalk Bay and turns up the ridge an area of hidden caves and rock formations. En route, there will be some scrambling. We may have time drop down the slope the Amphitheatre for tea before returning. BUCHUKLOOF - LOWER SECTION Hike from Nuweberg Forest station up a jeep track some lovely pools. Lots of time for relaxing and swimming at the pools. Bad weather cancels. Bring Wild card or money for permit. AGM Elect the new committee and hear all about the activities of the Club. Social afterwards. BLOUBERG BEACH WALK A beachside walk from Big Bay area Dolphin beach and back, ending with drinks & a snack / meal at a pleasant outdoor venue near the vehicles. ROCK HOPPER Difficult Hike Starting at Eerste Tol, a long, strenuous day of rockhopping down the Witte river from the p of Bain's Kloof Tweede Tol. Lots of swimming and beautiful scenery along the way. Must be an experienced boulder hopper and have no knee or ankle problems. Bring your Wild Card or R30. Phone Brian book: or CEDERBERG EXTRAVAGANZA Drive Zoo Ridge, Kouebokkeveld on afternoon 18 March for 3 nights Possible hikes up Bloukop / Sneeukop. On Monday 21 March, drive north Driehoek for 3 nights: possible long hikes, i.e. Sneeuberg via Maltese Cross; Sneeuberg traverse form Eikeboom Dwarsrivier + 5 other short & long walks (see Driehoek walks at or take a break & swim! Thursday 24 March drive Heuningvlei via Wuppertal (high clearance vehicle needed) or via Clanwilliam & Pakhuis pass. Stay at the backpackers for Easter, returning on Monday 28 March. Long hikes, e.g. Krakadouw Peak, Boontjieskloof traverse and short walks. Heuningvlei is accessible with a normal vehicle with reasonable clearance. Only 3 days leave required for this extended trip. JAMES PEAK Up hill hike from Gate 2 St James Peak via Muizenberg cave. KOGELBERG - LEOPARD'S GORGE Starting at Oudebosch in the Kogelberg Nature Reserve, ascend the Oudebosch river valley the p of Leopard's Gorge, where the waterfall plunges in Leopard's Kloof and there are excellent views of Betty's Bay. Descend Harold Porter Botanical Gardens via the gorge path. Car shuttle required. FISHHOEK WETLAND TO PEER'S CAVE Start at the parking area at Clovely beach, walk around the wetland area between Clovely and Fish Hoek and then through the dunes Peer's Cave. Hike along the ridge, ending at Oukaapseweg. Car shuffle needed. KROM RIVER Walk through riverine forest along the Krom River gorge in Du Toit's Kloof and up champagne rock pools. Energetic hikers who are good at scrambling may climb up beyond the waterfall the beautiful pool and cascade above. Bring sunblock and costume for swimming. If you wish use your Wild card, please book by 24 March latest otherwise money for permit. SILVERMINE - KLEIN-TUINKOP VIA CRASSULA PATH Find the hidden cave with tunnels and a tree growing out of a hole in the roof. We will hike up the Crassusla path and return via Bertie's Balcony. THREE SISTERS - KLEINMOND From Kleinmond we will hike up the p of the Three Sisters (634 m), a climb of 600 m. Great views of the coastline and the Palmiet River valley. Need Wild card or money for permit. CONSTANTIA NEK TO EAST FORT VIA VLAKKENBERG Shuttle some cars Constantia Nek before we set off climb Vlakkenberg. Great views over Hout Bay as we follow the Hoerikwaggo route. Tea before we head on down the old fort on Chapmans Peak drive below. SUNBIRD CENTRE TO CAVE PEAK Walk from the Sunbird Centre past the Clovelly Golf Course and scramble up a ravine Cave Peak passing Boomslang cave which we can explore and Devils pit (bring a rch). We will then go down wards Spes Bona valley and find an overgrown path down Silvermine Valley & the Sunbird Centre. SILVERMINE - NELLIE'S POOL & KALK BAY MTS Hike from Boyes Drive up Bailey's Kloof Nellie's Pool & on the Kalk Bay mts. We descend down Spes Bona Forest via Ou Kraal & back the start. PAFURI WALK, KRUGER NP AND NUM -NUM TRAILS The Pafuri walk is situated in the far north of the Kruger Park in a biologically diverse area. The walk takes place over 4 days and is guided with food and accommodation provided. After the walk, travel the southern end of Kruger NP staying at Shingwedzi, Letaba, Skukuza and Berg-en-dal camps. Leaving the KNP, travel the Num Num Trail. It is a 3 day slackpacking trail. Transport will be return flights OR Tambo and minibusses.
