3 Summer 2013 Meister Minutes... Summer has just begun and it is hard to believe that we have to start making ski trip decisions already. As you can see from the list of trips posted in this newsletter, we are offering five (5) week trip destinations, in addition to the Metropolitan New York Ski Council trip to Sun Valley and the New Jersey Ski & Snowboard Council trip to Sunday River. A couple of our trips have a smaller number of spots than usual, which was in response to the members indicating this on the Member Survey. One example of this is Red Mountain, which has always been perceived as a very difficult mountain, having mostly back-country and off-piste skiing. Within the past year, however, they completed a large expansion which includes additional intermediate terrain, resulting in the mountain offering 45% advanced terrain and 40% intermediate terrain. As such, we felt there was enough variety to finally be able to offer this destination as a club trip, but are only offering 26 spots. In another area, we are offering a trip to Europe in January, also in response to members indicating an interest on the Member Survey. Although we were initially going to make this a small trip, we decided to offer 42 spots because we secured a really great price (which you will find out at Trip Information Night). The last trip of the season is Whistler, which keeps its snow late into the spring, and should therefore offer a good alternative to our usual Colorado destinations. In this case, we are offering 36 spots, which is less than we normally do, but we would most likely be able to increase the size, if needed. TRIP INFORMATION NIGHT Trip Information Night (TIN) for all One Week Trips will be on July 24th. Each trip leader will have information available on their trip and members may submit deposit checks that evening. Members may mail checks prior to TIN if you know which trip(s) you want to go on. Checks mailed early do not get drawn until August 7th, but this would help to determine whether we may need more spots for a particular trip, if available. WEEK TRIP SIGN UP ~ August 7th We will be following the same procedure as we have for a number of years, and you will not have to be present and will not have to wait on any lines. Trip participants will be selected from those checks received by the Skimeister before Wednesday, August 7th. To do this, you may give your deposit check(s) to the Skimeister or, if you cannot come to a meeting (i.e. will be on vacation, have to work, or reside in another state), you may MAIL your deposit check(s) to the Skimeister at the following address: Jeff Meyer, P. O. Box 303, Lake Grove, NY Do Not Mail Checks To The Club s PO Box. Please remember that these must be received prior to August 7th. If you bring a check to the meeting on August 7th, the drawing may have already been done. The deposit amount for all of the one-week trips will be $200 per person.

4 Summer 2013 Meister Minutes Continued... For the benefit of new members, and to remind old ones, the club s policy regarding sign-ups on trips is that every member has a right to sign up for any trip, and may also sign up one additional member (for a trip they are going on) at the same time. To sign up an additional person, both members must submit a check for the amount of the deposit ($200 for a week trip). Each member must write the trip name and the name of the other member they wish to sign-up in the memo section of their check. Once one of the member s check is drawn for the trip, the other member is automatically on the trip and both deposit checks for $200 each will be deposited by the trip leader. So there are no misunderstandings, here is an example of how deposits may be submitted: A. John Q. may send a deposit check in the amount of $200 for himself for the trip to Bald Hill. As per the above policy, he may also sign up Peter R. by writing his name in the memo section of the check, along with the name of the trip. B. As a member, Peter R. may also send a deposit check in the amount of $200 for himself for the trip to Bald Hill. In addition, he may also sign up John Q. by writing his name in the memo section of the check, along with the name of the trip With regard to submitting checks for the drawing, some single members have commented that following this procedure would give couples an advantage to getting on a trip. The solution to this is to find a friend who wants to go on the same trip (presumably whom you would room with) and each submit deposit checks, as specified above. The actual selection of trip participants shall be as follows: (1) All deposit checks will be placed into plain envelopes marked for each specific trip (to preclude anyone from identifying someone s check or the envelope it was mailed to the Skimeister in). (2) Each trip leader will do a random selection from the envelopes marked for their trip. (3) As an envelope is selected, it will be opened and the name(s) entered onto a collection sheet (4) When all of the available spots are filled, any remaining envelopes will continue to be selected in the same manner, to establish a wait list. (5) To actually go on a trip during the ski season, you must be a current member. Anyone who is selected but fails to renew their membership by August 31st may be removed from the trip.

(4) The initial deposit amount for all of the one-week trips is $200 per person. POSSIBLE TRIP INCREASE OF TRIP PRICES As we are all aware, fuel prices are constantly changing. Travel suppliers have noted on their contracts that if the airlines increase their rates due to fuel surcharges, such increases will be passed on to the consumer. Therefore, an increase in any trip s price is possible IF an airline assesses a surcharge, and each person on the trip would therefore be responsible for such an increase. Jeff Meyer Membership Renewal Process Hi everyone. For this year you only need one membership form filled out and signed, p/p, to renew. Since we aren t mailing out forms, just download and print out the form from the club website, skidaddlers.com-home. If possible use the portrait format rather than landscape format. Try to make all the information you put on the forms fully legible so that the information that gets into the roster is correct. If more than one person is renewing, one check for all is preferred but not required. The renewal amount is $45.00 p/p. Make checks out to Suffolk Skidaddlers and put membership renewal in the memo. If renewing by mail and you want your membership card mailed to you, please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope. Otherwise you can pick up your card in person.
