3 Welcome to the 2012 Bungay Summer Festival For around 25 years, the Bungay Festival has celebrated the diverse activities that the town s many clubs and organisations have to offer. During this special year which sees celebrations for the Queen s Diamond Jubilee and the staging of the London Olympics*, the Festival promises the usual mixture of interest & fun, combining the regular events with some new ones Earsham Street and the Castle Meadow play host to the ever-popular Antiques Street Fair which always attracts thousands of visitors to the town. There will also be a return of the Bungay Beehive Day which proved to be very popular last year, raising awareness of the threats facing our honey bee population in an interactive and fun way. Other events to enjoy during a packed two weeks include the Festival Ball, ale trails, Shakespeare at the Castle, a full programme of entertainment at the Fisher Theatre and art and photographic exhibitions. The Festival ends on a high note with a performance from the Royal British Legion Band & Corps of Drums Romford. The youth band has performed throughout the UK, Europe and America and at many prestigious venues as well as in the presence of the Royal Family, including a performance at Buckingham Palace. Many people have devoted a great deal of time and effort to make this year s festival a success- to them my thanks. To you: enjoy the rich heritage and many events that are on offer! Keith Parker Festival Chairman *Look out for Bungay s Alternative Olympics following the Festival! Events which run for more than one day are indicated in the programme. 3

Allow at least an hour for the walk preferably two! These walks are designed to engage and inspire, balancing facts with local anecdotes for an informative and entertaining guide. (NB, ID required). The Bungay walk uncovers many of its hidden treasures including the 12th Century Bigod s Castle, Holy Trinity s round-towered Church, the Town Museum, The Fisher Theatre and the iconic Butter Cross. As we walk along the Waveney, you ll witness a scene little changed for 150 years.
