1 February 2015 Issue No. 2 Parkrose Business Association PBA Executive Director Katie Meyer New Year, Great New Energy! The PBA s January luncheon was such a great time. During introductions, each member took a little more time to talk about what they do. The act of sharing and getting to know each other a little better is extremely powerful in creating a strong business community. Thank you to everyone who came and shared! The new PBA board also had a fantastic retreat to plan the activities of the year. The creative energy in the room was amazing! Committees were formed and plans were set in motion. Of course, details still need to be worked out but we re looking forward growing our event and marketing efforts. More details soon! Our previous marketing and branding efforts are also coming to fruition. We have received permission from Pacific Power to move forward with our additional Shop Parkrose banners. They will be graciously hanging the banners for us and we appreciate their partnership. Twenty additional banners will be hung on Sandy Blvd. from 82nd to 99th, on 102nd near Prescott, and along 122nd from Airport Way to Halsey. Our reusable shopping bags with member logos on the back of the bags have been ordered and will be available soon! The board has voted to continue to be a member of Venture Portland, which has added meaning for us this year. Through Venture Portland s East Portland Pilot Project we will be eligible to apply for more grants and get a paid staff person to work specifically for the business association for 10 hours a week! The ultimate goal is to grow membership, value and participation in the association. Stronger business associations mean a stronger East Portland and we are extremely grateful. Parkrose Business Association Businesses for Business STATE OF THE PBA Vice President Jason Zwick Executive Director Katie Meyer What a great recap of 2014! 6 MINUTES OF MEETING OF BOARD OF DIRECTORS PARKROSE BUSINESS ASSOCIATION January 7, 2015 President Michael Taylor called the meeting to order at 7:10 a.m. The meeting took place at the Airport Holiday Inn, Portland, Oregon. Directors present included Wayne Stoll, Michael Taylor, Marsha Grabinger, David Ableidinger, Jason Zwick, Leo Porreco, David Borer, KT Goeke, Paul Wild, and Kristan Trevino. Directors not present but with excused absences included Angie Jenkins and Cathy Morris. Directors absent without excused absences included Alison Stoll, Sharen Fowler, and Kelly Brown. Also attending the meeting was Katie S. Meyer, the Executive Director. The President asked each of the Directors to introduce themselves and provide some background regarding their business activities. Marsha Grabinger presented a Treasurer s Report. It was decided that a more thorough review of finances would take place at the upcoming retreat of the Board of Directors which is to take place in February of No correspondence was circulated. Katie Meyer reported that speakers for the meetings in January through June of 2015 are in place. She also announced that approximately on a quarterly basis in 2015, some of our PBA speakers will hold separate meetings at separate dates for more in depth discussions. This would be done in conjunction with Historic Parkrose. It was confirmed that the Board meeting in February of 2015 also would serve as a retreat for the Directors. A new location will be needed for that meeting because Holiday Inn is fully booked on that date. David Ableidinger reported on the 105th and Sandy construction project. He also reported that there appears to be a continued high volume of car break-ins and storage shed break-ins. No police statistics were available. Katie Meyer reported that Venture Portland has received from the City of Portland $100,000 which was earmarked for East Portland. Rather than providing funds to individual business associations and other Venture Portland members, she reported that Venture Portland would be hiring one or more persons who would receive salaries and that some funds might be used for grants for East Portland. The newly hired persons would be available to assist East Portland Business Associations and other members with events. The concept was not received by the Board with enthusiasm. Katie Meyer reported on her recent activities. She reported that PP&L is requiring that their logo be put on the PBA banners in exchange for PP&L installing the banners. Katie will report more on this new development in the next meeting. There being no further business to conduct, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 a.m. Respectfully submitted: Mark W. Eves, Secretary
