1 State Basketball March 15-17, 2019 Illinois State University and Illinois Wesleyan University February 26, 2019 Dear Parents and Guardians, Congratulations on your athlete s qualification to the 2019 Special Olympics Illinois State Basketball Tournament! Nearly 1,700 athletes and more than 600 coaches have qualified for these games and will compete in the Basketball Team or Individual Skills competition! WHEN: March 15-17, 2019 WHERE: Illinois State University (ISU) - Horton Field House Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) Shirk Center TEAM COMPETITION: High School and Jr. Teams Friday & Saturday Male Sr. and Female Sr. Saturday & Sunday Final competition schedule will be posted on the website on March 1e the number of - INDIVIDUAL SKILLS: Horton Field House - Saturday, 9:00a.m. 3:00 pm *Young Athlete skills Saturday, 2-3pm *Tentative Schedule enclosed. COSTS: Special Olympics Illinois does not charge spectator or registration fees for any of its events. The cost to put on this event is subsidized at approximately $38/athlete. Event Handbook is available online ( ) with more specific information on the State Basketball Tournament including: Competition Information; Meals for Athletes and Coaches; Medical Information; Concealed Carry and Prohibited Weapons Policy; Animals at Venue; Activities & Entertainment; Families & Guests and more. Family Registration: The Family Program of Special Olympics Illinois is dedicated to providing family members with a welcoming, informed and great experience! Please stop by the Family Information area at either ISU or IWU, Friday Sunday and pick up your event packet and games souvenir! You may also enter the free raffle for giveaways! Families wearing their credentials will get an extra ticket for the raffle! Be sure to book your hotel early as the Hearts at Home Conference is the same weekend in. Souvenirs: Be sure to check out link to preorder any State Basketball merchandise before the games. Illinois Treasurer s Office ABLE: The Illinois State Treasurer s office is partnering with Special Olympics Illinois to help get the word out about benefits of recently passed ABLE Act. ABLE is a game changer for Illinois individuals with IDD/DD and their families in that they can now save and invest their private funds without losing, or losing access to, federal means-tested benefits, such as SSI, SSDI and Medicaid. Representatives from the IL State Treasurer s Office will be at ISU Horton Field House on Saturday, from 730am 4:00pm, to share information and answer questions. They will be located by Family Registration.
