5 INFORMATION, ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS CVB Social Medial Followers Below is the current count of followers on all three social media platforms. Staff plans to track these follower increases month by month. Facebook: 110 Twitter: 1,007 Instagram: 346 TBTA Golf Sponsorship The CVB sponsored the 2016 TBTA Annual Charity Golf Tournament on October 18 th, hosted at the Black Horse Golf Club. The sponsorship included one corporate foursome, a 30 second commercial spot to run during the event in the clubhouse and logo on the scoreboard, logo golf towels to handout, and recognition on the TBTA homepage until the next tournament. The attendees included decision makers for companywide travel. CVB in the News Expedia tweeted out an article on the Do s and Don ts of Working with OTA s which recognized the CVB. Some folks believe paid tactics are only for the big players, which is simply not true. Even smaller hotels and inns can consider paid tactics such as Travel Ads on Expedia, for example, which is a cost-per-click type of campaign. For destinations it works fairly well in co-op travel ads with hotels. For Shenandoah, Texas, which is a small destination outside Houston, Shenandoah CVB got some traction promoting their area and hotel partners with limited resources. Other News Travel Weekly shared an article on Word-of-Mouth Marketing Inspires more Travelers than Social Media. The article stated that According to the survey results, which broke down respondents answers into two broad categories, millennials and non-millennials, word of mouth remained the top way participants got inspired to visit the destination on their last leisure trip at 16% and 20%, respectively. In an online article from Entrepreneur, Ecommerce is Growing, but Customers still Prefer Shopping in Stores, it states that even with the increases in delivery time and improved online experiences, people still like to physically buy many types of goods. Although people might prefer to shop in stores, there s been a year-over-year increase in frequency of online purchases since Today, nearly a third of consumers say they shop online at least once a week, a 40% increase from two years ago. The main incentives to shop online today are free shipping, one-day shipping and free returns. Nine in ten consumers admit that free shipping make them more likely to shop online.
