1 1 Cogdell 2 Powell 3 Calina Callina From Coolidge, Texas, take SH 171 south, turning east on FM 27. Turn north on FM 638 and go about 1.2 miles. The cemetery will be on the left. From Coolidge take FM 73 west to FM 936. Turn right and follow FM 936 until you drive past CR 176 on the right and CR 156 on the left [Note: CR 156 is labeled as CR 170 in Google s]. Before you get to the county line there will be a dirt road on the right. There is a gate which will be locked. Look way out into the pasture locating an old barn and some trees. The cemetery is to the left of the barn. The cemetery is on private land and owned by Mr. Erskine. This cemetery was fenced at one time but at least half of it is down and the cattle graze it now. From Coolidge take FM 73 west to FM 936 turning right (north). Cemetery is approximately 0.6 miles past CR 184 junction, to the right in a pasture within a two-acre grove of trees located about 130 feet east of the road. Of the four individuals known to be buried in this cemetery, all were infants. This cemetery is surrounded on three sides by a wire fence. Cattle are allowed to graze in the cemetery. Lat: 31 44' 45"N, Lon: 96 39' 42"W. From Coolidge take FM 73 west to FM 936 turning right/north. Cemetery is approximately.6 miles past LCR 184 junction. 2 4 Tehuacana 5 Valley 6 Brown & McGee Park Tehuacana Valley, Tehucana Valley From Mexia, Texas, take SH 171 northwest. Turn right onto FM 638 and go about 0.8 miles and then turn right on CR 226. The cemetery is on the left where the road makes a sharp turn south (right). From Mexia go north on SH 14, turn west (left) on CR 250 and go about 0.6 miles. Cemetery is on the left. The cemetery gate is visible from the road but not the cemetery itself. It is approximately 200 steps off road. From FM 73 in Coolidge, Texas, go south on 1st Street for 0.5 miles. The African American cemetery will be on the left. Lat: 31 45' 12"N, Lon: 96 32' 45"W. The city of Tehuacana is located on Highway 171. Take FM 638 going about.8 mile turning right on LCR 226. 3 7 Ruyle Go south from Mount Calm on FM 339. Turn left on CR 131. Follow CR 131 until the road is about to make a sharp right turn. Turn left on PR 5133 right before CR 131 makes the sharp right turn. [Note: PR 5133 is labeled as CR 132 in Google s.] Follow PR 5133/CR 132 north and stay to the left all the way until reaching a house that belongs to Mr. and Mrs. A.V. Nutt. The cemetery is on their property so get permission from them to see the cemetery. The cemetery has three huge Oak trees in it. It is overgrown and part of the fence is down, and all of the markers are broken or in need of some kind of work on them. The cemetery is on the south side of the road at the edge of the city limits, just past CR 186. From Mexi, Texas, take SH 14 north, turn east on CR 252. Go 0.2 miles. This African American cemetery is located on the left. From Coolidge, Texas, go west on FM 73. Pass the Coolidge Cemetery and turn left on CR 186 which is the next road to the left. Follow CR 186 to the Norwegian (Hill) Cemetery on the left just before the junction with CR 185. No fence. Page V-5

Take the next road to the left and the Mexican Cemetery will be on the right. This is a Mexican cemetery. From Coolidge, Texas, go west on FM 73 past the Coolidge City Cemetery. Turn left on CR 186. Go about 0.5 miles. The cemetery is on the west side of the road and is across the road from New Armour Cemetery. From Coolidge, Texas, go west on FM 73 past the Coolidge City Cemetery. Turn left on CR 186. Go about 0.5 miles. The cemetery is on the west side of the road and is across the road from New Armour Cemetery. From Mount Calm, Texas, on SH 31, go south on FM 339. Turn west/right on 1st Street. Go about 0.5 miles and turn left/south on CR 3278 (Nickles Avenue). Go about a mile to CR 102 and turn right/west. The cemetery is about 0.2 miles on the left and is easily seen from the road. Directions: From Coolidge go west on FM 73 past the Coolidge City Cemetery. Turn left on LCR 180 [CR 186]. 5 15 Trammell 16 Antioch Church Mount Antioch Church 17 Williams-Pitts Col. William From Coolidge take FM 73 west to FM 936 turning right (north). When FM 936 takes a sharp curve to the north, do not take the curve, and instead go straight ahead on to FM 150. After passing the large house on the right, start looking for a gate on the right to the pasture/field. From the gate look north out into the pasture to see the cemetery. From Prairie Hill, Texas, go north for 7 miles on FM 339. The cemetery is on the left (west) side of the road. Near the Limestone-Hill County line about 2 miles south of Mt Calm Cemetery on LCR 106. Cemetery is in a grove of trees. The land owner will not let anyone on his property to see the cemetery. 18 Crouch From Mexia take either LCR 254 or LCR 256. (LCR 254 intersects into LCR 256.) Go northeast crossing the Limestone-Freestone County line and the road is now called CR 986. Follow this road making a sharp turn to the right. Look to the left to locate a gap (gate made from barbwire). Topo maps show a road here that goes straight for approximately 1 mile more or less until it makes a sharp right. The cemetery is supposed to be in the pasture looking west approximately 0.2 miles. It is not visible or accessible from any road. It is on private property and it is adjacent to the Lindley Cemetery. Page V-7

6 19 Lindley 20 Indian Burial Mound 21 Delia Starting at Mexia, Texas, from US 84 take Ross Avenue to CR 254. Take CR 254 to intersection with CR 256 and make a left. Go northeast crossing the Limestone-Freestone County line and the road is now called CR 986. Follow this road making a sharp turn to the right. Stop. Look to the left to locate a gap (Gate made from barbwire). Topo maps show a road here (CR 254) that goes straight for approximately 1 mile more or less until it makes a sharp right. Stop. The cemetery is supposed to be in the pasture looking west approximately 0.2 miles. It is not visible or accessible from any road. It is on private property and it is (adjacent to the Crouch Cemetery) which is in a pasture owned by Dr. Carl E. Williford. Travel from either Coolidge or Prairie Hill on FM 73. Turn onto FM 341 and travel north for about 7 miles. Turn right onto CR 150. Take a left on CR 173. Follow CR 173 until you see a bridge ahead. Do not cross it. Stop about 150 feet before the bridge. The cemetery is located about 0.25 miles due west. Look for small trees growing in a fenced in area. The approximate size is about 50 feet by 60 feet. Travel from either Coolidge or Prairie Hill, Texas, on FM 73. Turn onto FM 341 and travel north for about 7 miles. Turn right onto CR 150. The cemetery is located about one mile on the left. 7 22 Oak Hill McCoy-Oak Hill, McCoy-Askew, Oak Hill-Moody, From US 84 turn north on FM Go about 3 miles. The cemetery is located in a pasture on the west side of the road. Must get permission from the owner to visit the cemetery. From Highway 84 turn north on FM Go about 3 miles. The cemetery is located in a pasture on the west side of the road. It is difficult to see from the road. Must get permission from the owner to visit the cemetery. Source: Interment.net at 23 Murphy From Mexia, Texas, go west on US 84 turning north on CR 198. When CR 198 turns right, do not turn but continue straight on CR 201 which will make a sharp right turn. At the turn, the cemetery is out in the pasture about 300 yards to the north and is not visible from the road. 24 Mexia State School This cemetery is located on the property of the Mexia State School. Visitors must get permission to enter the campus and visit the cemetery. This facility was originally a German prisoner of war camp. Most of the graves in this cemetery are for German prisoners. A few of the very early patients of the state school were also buried here. 25 Mexia City Old Mexia, Mexia From the intersection of US 84 and SH 14 in Mexia, Texas, go east on US 84. Cross over the bridge and go about four blocks and make a left on North Kaufman Street. The cemetery is straight ahead at the end of the street. Located in the town of Mexia. 8 26 Cedar Isle Cedar Island, Wood From Mexia go west on US 84 for approximately 4 miles to CR 198. Follow CR 198 turning right onto CR 197. Stop on the sharp turn to the left. There is a gate with a sign across the top that reads Fort Jackson. To the right is another pasture gate. The cemetery is located down the dirt road behind this gate. The cemetery is out in a pasture and is not visible from any road. This cemetery is on private property owned by Mr. Carl Andrews and the gate will be locked. This cemetery is in two parts. One in a large fenced in area and the other a little northeast under a large Bois d Arc tree with the Hezekiah Dewitt grave marker and several other limestone makers. It is not fenced. 27 Mexia Memorial From the intersection of US 84 and SH 14. Go north on SH 14. Turn right on Brickyard Road. Turn left on North Denton Street. Take the next road to the right called Cemetery Road and this African American cemetery is visible from it. 28 Billington Billington Church From US 84 west of Mexia, Texas, take CR 120 north for about 1 mile, turn right on CR 124, then turn left back onto CR 120, go about 3.7 miles, turn left on CR 108 and keep left for 0.4 miles. The cemetery is on the right next to the Billington Church of Christ. Lat: 31 41'20"N, Lon: ' 35"W. From Highway 84 take LCR 120 for about 1 mile, turn right on LCR 124, then turn left back onto LCR 120, go about 3.7 miles, turn left on LCR 108 for.4 mile. 9 29 Old Sandy Creek Ben, Old Slave 30 Sandy Creek Oak Grove, Henry 31 Cedar Hill Burial Park From Mexia, Texas, travel west on US 84 for about 8 miles, turn right on FM 2310, go north about 1.8 miles, turn left (west) on CR 180. The Union Memorial United Methodist Church is at the intersection of CR 180 and CR 191. Turn right onto CR 191 and go past the Union Memorial United Methodist Church and the cemetery behind it on the left, and the Old Sandy Creek Cemetery will be up the road on the right. This is an African American cemetery. From Mexia, Texas, travel west on US 84 for about 8 miles, turn right on FM 2310, go north about 1.8 miles, turn left (west) on CR 180. The Union Memorial United Methodist Church is at the intersection of CR 180 and CR 191. The cemetery will be next to the church. This cemetery is one mile west of Mexia, Texas, on US 84, on north side of highway, next to and west of the Hancock Cemetery. There is just a fence separating them. This is a newer cemetery which started in the late 1980's and is primarily for African Americans. Lat: 31 40' 51"N, Lon: 96 30' 38"W. Follow CR 480 until it T s into CR 474. Turn left on CR 474 and the cemetery will be on the left. In Prairie Hill, Texas, one mile north of the intersection of FM 339 and FM 73. The Cemetery joins the property of the Prairie Hill Baptist Church. From US 84 west of Mexia, Texas, turn south on CR 498 then turn right CR 502. The cemetery is on the left. It is a large cemetery, one part is fenced in. The newest part is on the other side of CR 504. Lat: 31 39' 44"N, Lon: 96 47' 39"W. In Prairie Hill, TX, one mile north of the intersection of FM339 and FM73. 11 36 Hewitt English Colony This cemetery is on private land. From the intersection of FM 470 and FM 1633, go west on FM 1633 for 0.5 miles turn right, following private road, keep to the left for 0.5 miles until coming to a gate, go though gate for another 0.2 miles, until coming to a second gate, go through that gate still keeping to the left for 0.3 miles until coming to Joe Ross-Brown Oil Well. Go between first old oil tank on the left and oil pumper on the right. The grave is about 250 feet northeast. Go through woods until finding a clearing, cross clearing and start looking for an iron pipe protruding out of the ground marking Hewitt s grave. The only marker in this cemetery is a "Confederate State of America" military marker for William E. Hewitt. 37 Shead Snead 38 Forest Glade From US 84 between Waco and Mexia, turn north on CR 124 (Debbie's Lane), go about 1 mile. The cemetery is visible on the left side of the road. From Mexia go south on SH 14, turn right on FM 1633 stay on FM 1633 for 1.1 miles. FM 1633 will make a sharp right, stay to the left, this road will now be called CR 463, keep going for about 2.2 miles. Turn right. This road will lead to the cemetery. The cemetery cannot be seen from the road. The cemetery is well maintained and is still accepting burials. Lat: 31 32'31"N, Lon: 96 32'14"W. Forest Glade is south of Mexia. 12 39** Steel Steele 40** Hayes Southwest of Mexia, Texas, near airport off SH 14. Turn southeast on CR 464. The cemetery is on the east side of the road. The GPS readings are approximate. The exact location of this cemetery is unknown. From Mexia go west on US 84 and turn left CR 368. Travel about 1 to 2 miles. Look to the left. The cemetery is supposed to be out in the pasture or wooded area somewhere. This is a Black cemetery. All that Linda Jordan, Limestone County CHC, could find out about this cemetery was from someone that he talked to that said that he went to a funeral there 40 years ago. Also Linda Jordan talked to a teenager several years ago who said that he went walking behind the Honest Ridge Cemetery and saw another old cemetery in the same area. 41 Abernathy-Cogdell Abernath-Cogdell 42 Honest Ridge 43 Moffett Moffitt From Mexia take SH 14 south, turn right on CR 466 (Morton Lane), continue until road ends. Cemetery is located on the right in a pecan grove and is not visible from the road. The property is currently owned by George Heussner and is called Mine Ranch. On US 84 between Waco and Mexia, go south on FM 1245, turn left on CR 374. Go about 4 miles. The cemetery is on the left and visible from the road. 13 44 Stroud Old Slave Stroud From the intersection of FM 1633 and CR 380, travel north on CR 380 passing CR 382 on the left. Continue until locating Dancer Cemetery on the right. Old Stroud Slave Cemetery is located across the road from Dancer Cemetery in a fenced in wooded area. There are no visible markers in this cemetery. The Stroud Old Slave Cemetery is on private property and permission must be obtained from the owner, Jerome Cotton, and the person leasing the pasture before entering the land. 45 Stroud Family Stroud 46 Dancer 47 Shiloh Southwest of Mexia, Texas. From the intersection of FM 1633 and CR 380, travel north on CR 380 passing CR 382 on the left. Continue to the first pasture gate on the left. The cemetery is in this pasture and is not visible from the road. Stroud Cemetery is on private property and permission must be obtained from the owner, Jerome Cotton, and the person leasing the pasture before entering the land. From FM 1633 turn north on CR 380. Stay to the right for another 0.7 miles. The cemetery will be on the right. There seems to be two separate cemeteries here with over 50 feet and a fence in between them. GPS reading for the second part is and This is an African American cemetery. South of Mexia on FM 39, turn southwest on LCR 455 (Shiloh Road), turn left on LCR 433, then a right on LCR 439. Cemetery is on the left past the Shiloh Baptist Church. Page V-15

14 48** Cannan Chapel 49 Springfield From Mexia, Texas, go south on SH 14. Turn left on CR 456. After passing the CR 405 intersection, the Cannan Chapel Missionary Baptist Church will be located on the left. The cemetery is in the back of the church, about a mile down CR 456 on the left. This is an African American cemetery. The cemetery is located within Fort Parker State Park 4.5 miles north of Groesbeck, Texas, on SH 14 to Park Road 28, then west 0.5 miles. 50 Edell Stone From Mart, Texas, take SH 164 east to intersection of FM 339, turn left (north) and go 3.4 miles to Kirk Cemetery, then turn right (east onto a gravel road which will become a dirt road. Go almost due east for 1.3 miles and turn left into a farmyard of Edell Stone Family. Graves in field. In 2010, CHC unable to locate the grave(s). CHC GPS reading (31.588, ) was taken at the location of the house. From Mart take Hwy 164 East to Intersection of Farm Road 339, turn left (or north) and go 3.4 miles to Kirk Cemetery, then turn right or east onto a gravel road which will become a dirt road. Go almost due east for 1.3 miles and turn left into a farmyard of Edell Stone Family. Graves in field, only 1 marker to be found thou oldtimers say there was once at least 5 or 6 graves here. 15 51 Bennett-Lenoir Bennett-LaNoir From US 84 between Waco and Mexia, Texas, turn south on FM The cemetery is located on the right in a pasture 0.2 mile before (North) getting to the Thelma community which is at the junction of FM 1633 and FM The gate to the pasture is on the west side of the road. Currently there is a sign indicating the location of the cemetery. The cemetery is not visible from the road and is 0.4 miles from the gate. Lat: 31 35' 10"N, Lon: 96 36' 56"W. It is clearly visible from the road. From Mexia, Texas, go south on SH 14, turn left on CR 456 (Shiloh Road), turn right on CR 406, follow this road for about 1.2 miles. As the road curves to the right, railroad tracks will be visible on the left. Carefully look to the left for this African American cemetery. Lat: 31 35' 10"N, Lon: 96 43' 41"W. Directions to Kirk Cemetery: From Highway 164 between Mart and Groesbeck, turn north on FM 339, go 3.2 miles. The cemetery is on the left in the Kirk Community. It is clearly visible from the road. 16 54 Smyth 55 Waller 56 Shady Grove 57 Goodhope Old Slave Cemetery Southeast of Mexia, Texas, at the northwest corner of the intersection at CR 450 and CR 433. This cemetery is unfenced in open wooded pasture land, overgrown with trees and weeds. Vandals in years past have overturned all headstones and thrown several in a near by creek. From Mexia, Texas, go south on FM 39 past Fallon and turn left on LCR 426. Go 0.5 miles and take another left on LCR 443, go approximately 0.2 miles. There will be a gate on the left (Gas company pipeline right away sign painted orange is next to gate.) Go though the gate, turn to the right after passing the old house. There will be an old barn on the left. Go through the stand of trees beside the barn. The land will be cleared on the other side. Waller Cemetery is straight ahead on private land. From Kosse go southeast on SH 7 for 1.6 miles. Turn right on LCR 705. Go about 1.6 miles and turn left on the dirt road. The cemetery will be about 0.4 miles at the end of road. From Mexia, Texas, go south on FM 39 to Fallon, Texas. Turn left on CR 426. Take the second road to the right and there will be an iron gate over a cattle guard. The cemetery will be on the right in the wooded area. This cemetery is about two acres in size and the grave markers are scattered throughout the area. This is an African American cemetery. 17 58 Plummers Plummer 59 Prairie Grove 60 Horn Hill From Groesbeck take Hwy 14 north, turn right on FM 1245, go 3.2 miles to the end of road. The road becomes LCR 420. Stay on LCR 420 keeping to left until reaching LCR 454. Turn left on LCR 454. Go 2 miles, pass Webb Chapel Cemetery. Plummer Cemetery is on the left. It is easily seen from the road. From Groesbeck go east on SH 164 about 6 miles to FM Turn left and continue north about 5 miles. The cemetery is on the right side and is visible from the road. From Groesbeck, Texas, go west on SH 164. Turn right on CR 390 which makes several turns. Horn Hill Cemetery on the right. It is clearly visible from the road. 61** Nus From the intersection on SH 164 and FM 339, go north on FM 339. After passing CR 350 on the right, start looking to the left for a big barn with farm equipment around it. Pull into driveway. There is a gate that is always locked. Look west behind the barn locating several trees. The cemetery is all around there. Most graves and markers have been plowed under. Some grave markers where piled under a tree. Old-timers still say that there are at least 300 graves in this cemetery. Page V-19

18 62 Rawls Willow Springs, Old Willow Springs From SH 164, turn north on CR 390. The cemetery is located on the left just after the junction with CR 384. The cemetery can be seen west of the road and is located on private property. The cemetery is located between the road and a large pond. It was fenced in April 2002 but most of it is down now and the cows have knocked over all of the grave markers. The fenced area was approximately 14'x20'. Mr. Thetford, who used to live across the road from the cemetery, stated that there were many graves in the cemetery but only the Rawls graves were still marked. Lat: 31 33'23"N, Lon: '35"W. From Highway 164, turn north on LCR 390. The cemetery is located on the left just after the junction with LCR 384. The cemetery can be seen from the road and is located on private property. Source: Interment.net at 63** Hawkins Go east from Groesbeck on SH 164, turn left on FM Go north approximately 4 miles and look for a road off to the right. The cemetery used to be down this road. The graves (or graves markers) have been moved to the Prairie Grove Cemetery. It was said that there where two other unmarked graves there also. CHC reports it is unknown if the bodies were reinterred or just the markers moved. 64 Bethel 65 Fort Parker Memorial Fort Parker Go east out of Groesbeck on CR 419. Turn right on FM 1245 which will end and become CR 420. Continue on CR 420 turning right on CR 421. The cemetery is on the right and is visible from the road. From Groesbeck at SH 14, turn north on FM 1245 and travel for approximately 3 miles. The cemetery is on the right. Page V-20

19 66 Webb Chapel 67 Heck Take FM 1245 heading east out of Groesbeck. This road will end and become CR 420. Stay on CR 420 until coming to CR 453. Turn left onto CR 453. Go 0.4 miles and the African American cemetery will be on the left. From Groesbeck go west on SH 164 approximately 6 miles to CR 390 turn right. Go about 1.6 miles to CR 384 turn left. Go about 0.5 miles to the end of the road where there is a locked gate. Go over gate and walk straight ahead about 0.3 miles till you come to a gate on your left. The cemetery was over grown and has been plowed up over the years until there isn t any trace of a cemetery. From Groesbeck, go south on FM 937 about 10 miles. The cemetery is located on the right side of FM 937. It is in a small grove of trees and is clearly visible from the road. From Groesbeck, go south on FM 937 turning right on CR 762. Go about 1 mile. The cemetery is on the right in a grove of trees. Take SH 14 south out of Groesbeck, Texas, turning right on FM 147, The cemetery will be 1.7 miles after passing the intersection of FM It will be on the left side of the road. Cemetery is on private property with three locked gates. Address of the cemetery is 1370 CR 624. The single grave was at the start of a looped driveway. It was reportedly moved around the first of 2009 to Big Hill Cemetery according to the CHC. There is no name on the marker. The GPS of the new location of the grave is , according to Limestone CHC. The Old Spanish Cemetery is adjacent to and north of the Cobb Cemetery and the Turrubiarte - Cordova Cemetery is adjacent to and north of the Old Spanish Cemetery. 91 Old Spanish Cobb Spanish 92 Cobb Go east out of Thornton on CR 778. Follow this road for approximately 2.4 miles. Cobb Cemetery will be on the left side of road and is fenced and is in good condition. There are two Spanish cemeteries connected to the Cobb Cemetery. The first one is the Old Spanish Cemetery and next to it is the Turrubiarte - Cordova Cemetery. Go east out of Thornton on CR 778. Follow this road for approximately 2.4 miles. Cobb Cemetery will be on the left side of road. This little Spanish Cemetery is next to Cobb Cemetery, outside of Thornton. I was told by the overseer of Cobb that this Spanish Cemetery was not part of it. Some people are confused about the name. When Cobb Cemetery replaced their old signs with new ones they gave the old signs to the Spanish Cemetery. As of today they are still laying on the ground. There are two cemeteries named Herod in Limestone County. 94 Tidwell Steele Creek, Old Tidwell From Thornton turn west on FM 1246 and follow it until reaching to CR 648. Turn left and follow it for approximate 1.5 miles. The gate will be on the right with a Tidwell Cemetery sign above it. Follow the road and it will lead to the cemetery. 95 Jones Take SH 14 south from Groesbeck, Texas, towards Thornton, Texas. Go south to FM 147, turn right and head towards Marlin. After passing FM 1246, turn left on the next road CR 646. Go 1.2 miles. There will be two iron gates on the left. Turn left onto the Allison family property and follow the driveway. While going up the driveway, look to the left for a gate. The cemetery will be on the other side of this gate about 150 ft. It is a small cemetery, encircled by a steel link fence, and is well kept. Bruce Jordon of Limestone CHC reported that although he knows the general area where Clifton Cemetery is supposed to be located and has walked the field, he has never seen any indication of the cemetery. From Thornton, Texas, on SH 14, go southeast on FM 1246 about 3 miles. Turn left on CR 761 (Windy Ridge Road), and go 1.1 miles to CR 758 turn right and go 1.5 miles. The cemetery is on the right in a pasture on private land about 0.75 miles from the road. The cemetery is totally overgrown. From Groesbeck, go east on Highway 164 and turn right on FM 937. Stay on FM 937 until junction with FM 3371 at Old Union community. Turn left. Go about 3/4 mile to LCR 750. Turn right. The cemetery is located behind the Old Union Church of Christ. From Kosse, Texas, go north on LCR 723, then turn right on PR 5715, go about 1 mile. Cross over the old bridge and continue to the top of hill. Pass the corner fence on the right and the cemetery will be on the right in a small grove of trees. The markers are not visible from the road. The Brown Family Cemetery is located on SH 14 approximately one mile north of Kosse on the right side of the road. This grave is in the pasture owned by Frank Connell of the J. Y. Stephenson Survey near Oletha in South Limestone County on LCR 730 (M. Ranch Road). From FM 937 take LCR 730 going past the intersection of LCR 732.
