This fee is non-refundable five business days prior to the start of the course. If directions are available from the tour locations website, they are listed below. The Provincial Landscape February 17 th Lilies on the Pond March 9 th Cluster of Tiger Lilies on the Woods Edge March 10th Ukrainian Eggs, Pysanky Eggs March 15 th The Albany Art Room is located at 350 New Scotland Ave. in Albany. Take 787 South to 90 West towards Albany/Buffalo. Take Exit 6 and merge onto 9 South. Continue onto Henry Johnson Blvd. Cross Central Ave. and turn right onto Western Ave. Go only 1/10 of a mile and turn left onto Lake Ave. Lake will come to an end at New Scotland Ave. Turn right onto New Scotland Ave. and the Albany Art Room will be on your left on the corner of Harris Ave. in a residential neighborhood. 1

2 An Irish Lunch and Irish Music, Too March 15 th Westfall Station is located at 13A Averill Avenue, Averill Park, NY Self-Care through Yoga and Meditation March 22th April 4 th This course will take place at 60 Garner Road in Averill Park. The following directions assume you will be traveling East on I-90. If you are traveling West on I-90, you should still use Exit #8. Take I-90 East (to Boston) over the Hudson River. Get off I-90 using Exit #8 Defreestville/Route 43 (2nd exit after crossing Hudson River). At first light at end of ramp proceed straight through Washington Avenue intersection. At second light proceed straight through Route 4 intersection and uphill onto Route 43. Proceed about 4 1/2 miles on Route 43.Take a right at lighted intersection onto Route 150 (in West Sand Lake).Go 1 mile and take a left onto Sheer Road/County Route 52. As a landmark, there is a house with a low stone wall on corner. Go 1 mile to a fork in the road and bear left onto Garner Road. AMI is the 3rd house on the right 60 Garner Road. AMI is a white colonial with green shutters. Please pull into the driveway just before the house (at the sign) and come in the side door by the circular driveway. Get into the leftmost lane as you cross the bridge. At the third traffic light, turn left onto Main Street. Continue over the railroad tracks and past the concrete wall on the right. Turn right onto East Industrial Parkway. Pass the concrete wall on the right. Turn right into our parking lot (the one with the big ladle car in the middle of it). The front door faces the railroad tracks. 2

From the South: Take New York State Thruway (Interstate 87) to Exit 23 - straight through Toll Booth to Interstate 787, then take Exit #3 for the Empire State Plaza. Directions will be provided prior to the class. Tour and Lunch at the Skene Manor April 24 th The Skene Manor is located at 8 Potters Terrace in Whitehall, NY. Take I-87 to Whitehall-Fort Ann exit (Route 149). Travel east on 149 and turn left (north) at the Fort Ann mid-town signal where 149 joins Route 4. Stay on Route 4 to Whitehall. In the village of Whitehall, turn left onto Mountain St. which will become Mullholland Dr. Take a right and head up the hill to the Manor. You will be contacted by a member of the Community Education Office staff for your lunch order. The Restoration of Pat s Dutch Barn - Rensselaer Technology Park April 26 th From the South: Interstate 87 (New York State Thruway) to Exit 23 (Albany.) After toll booth, 787 North to I-90 East (Boston.) Take Exit 8 (Defreestville.) From the West: I-90 East to Exit 24 (Albany.) After toll booth, proceed East on I-90 approximately 8 miles to Exit 8. From the North: Interstate 87 (Northway) South to Exit 1-E (I-90 East) to Exit 8 on I-90. From the East: Mass Turnpike West (I-90) to Exit B1 (Albany) continuation of I-90) onto Exit 8. From Exit 8: Exit 8 only goes in one direction. At the second light, take a left onto Route 4. Travel on Route 4 approximately 1 ½ miles and take a left at the light onto Jordan Road (into the Rensselaer Technology Park.) Then make your first left. Keep right and you will see signs for Pat s Barn. Pass a brick farmhouse and Pat s Barn will be on your right. Jazz Workshop: History and Theory April 30 th This course will be held at the personal home of the instructor. Directions will be provided prior to the class. 4

5 Walking Tour of Washington Park and Surrounding Homes w/tea April 30th Directions: Meet at 195 Second St., Troy, NY Parking is along the bordering streets of Washington Park (Washington Place, Second Street, Third Street and Washington Avenue). This is a walking tour with many uneven surfaces and stairs, so please wear comfortable shoes. Birding May 1 st Do Not Follow Your Car GPS- Some GPS units are directing people to the east side of the lake, which is 25 minutes from the Center. Please follow the directions below. Directions: From Route 2 East on Route 2. Watch for Tamarac School on the left and Tamarac Plaza on the right. Go 1.5 miles. Watch for Dyken Pond sign on the right. Turn right onto Route 79 (Blue Factory Rd). Go two miles. Turn left at Dyken Pond sign onto Route 80 (Madonna Lake Rd). Bear right at fork (Jay Hakes Rd is to the left). Bear right at Dyken Pond sign onto Dyken Pond Rd (go straight instead of following the turn). Continue 2 ½ miles. Dyken Pond Road is a dirt road. Don t get discouraged. We re at the end of the road! From Points West Follow Route 7 east from Troy. Continue approximately 4 miles. Turn right at traffic light onto Route 278. Continue until the end. At traffic light, turn left onto Route 2. You will see Tamarac School and Plaza. Follow directions above. From Points East: From Route 22, follow Route 2 west. You will pass the blinking light in the town of Grafton. Approximately ½ mile from there, look for the white Methodist Church on the left. Turn left at the church onto County Route 85 and continue for 3.1 miles. Turn left onto Route 80 (Madonna Lake Rd). After.8 miles, turn left at the sign. New York City Bus Trip May 3 rd The bus will leave the Yankee Trails bus depot in Rensselaer at 6:30 a.m. and the Crossgates Commons parking lot behind Wal-Mart for a 7 a.m. departure. Note: The bus will drop passengers off at Bryant Park. The bus will depart New York City at 7 p.m. and return to Crossgates Commons. On the return ride the trip coordinator will be collecting a small donation for a gratuity for the bus driver. 5

6 Visit Historic Grant Cottage and have Tea May 7 th Directions: From I-87, the Northway. Take exit 16 West on Ballard Rd. (County Rt. 33) to the intersection at Rt. 9. Go through the intersection onto Corinth Mountain Rd. (County Rt. 101). Take the first right and follow the signs up the mountain to Grant Cottage. From Rt. 9: Proceed to intersection at Ballard Rd. (County Rt. 33). Turn onto Corinth Mountain Rd. (County Rt. 101). Take the first right and follow the signs up the mountain to Grant Cottage. From North I-87, take Exit 16. Make a left (West) onto Ballard Rd. (County Rt. 33). Cross over Rt. 9 taking the first right onto Parkhurst Rd. After stop sign it becomes Mt. McGregor Rd, continue up the mountain past the prison security hut and speed bumps to the Grant Cottage Visitor Center where we will meet to begin our tour. Please wear comfortable shoes. Trail Walk and Tour of BASF s Urban Nature Center May 9 th Proceed south on Rt. 4, heading toward East Greenbush. At the intersection between the Target and Walmart Plazas, turn right onto Third Avenue Extension. Continue down Third Avenue Extension, passing through 4 traffic lights. At the 5 th traffic light, turn left onto Broadway (if you continue straight you will go over the bridge into Albany). Pass through 2 traffic lights, Broadway becomes Riverside Avenue on the other side of the intersection with Routes 9 & 20 (Columbia Turnpike). Fort Crailo will be on your left just past the first stop sign. Continue straight after the second stop sign and look for a small, white BASF sign. Turn left and bear left at the second while BASF sign. Knickerbocker Family Mansion Ghosts, Tour and Lunch May 16 th The mansion is located at 132 Knickerbocker Road in Schaghticoke. From Troy: Take Route 40 north to Schaghticoke. At the red light as you approach the village, turn left on Route 67, travel west toward Mechanicville. Drive 3 miles west, turn right onto Knickerbocker Road. The Mansion is the first building on the right. The Saugerties Lighthouse May 17 th Southbound on NYS Thruway/I-87. Take NYS Thruway/I-87 S Take the RT-32 exit- Exit 20- toward Saugerties/Woodstock. Turn left onto NY-32. turn left onto NY-212/NY-32, which becomes Ulster Ave. continue on Ulster Ave. go 1.0 mile bear right at Market St. go 1 block turn left at Main St. go 1 block stay straight to go onto US-9W/Main St. go 0.4 miles where 9W curves to the left, turn right onto Mynderse St. go 0.3 miles turn slight left onto Lighthouse Dr. go 0.4 miles turn right into the lighthouse parking lot after the US Coast Guard station. Follow the lighthouse trail. Go 0.5 miles. The lighthouse can be reached via a half-mile nature trail of dirt and rock paths with wooden bridges and boardwalks and sandy trails. Please wear suitable, comfortable shoes. 6

7 Out & About May 17 th Directions for all trips will be handed out and carpool groups will be formed at the orientation meeting being held on Thursday, May 17 th in Williams Hall. Wild Flowers along the Corkscrew Rail Trail May 19th Take Rt. 43 through Stephentown, turn right onto Rt. 22, go past the Cumberland Farms, take the first right onto Knapps Rd., continue down the road until you see the trail sign on left. Primary trail access is on Knapp Road, about a half mile west of NYS Route 22. This trail can also be accessed on Wynomanock Road. Parking is along the roadside. Ten Broeck Mansion Tour with Tea May Directions: The Ten Broeck Mansion is located at 9 Ten Broeck Place, Albany, N.Y Take 787 South to the Clinton Avenue exit (marked "Downtown Albany") and proceed west on Clinton Avenue. Just past the Palace Theater, turn right onto Ten Broeck Street then proceed north toward Livingston Avenue. Turn left on Ten Broeck Place, and halfway up the hill turn right for the Mansion parking lot. Sleepy Hollow Bus Tour May 31 The bus will leave from Hudson Valley Community College at 7:45 a.m. from Parking Lot H in front of Williams Hall and returning at approximately 5:15 p.m. Please contact the Office of Community & Professional Education at or communityed@hvcc.edu with any questions. 7
