3 photo: ptk photo: ptk Le Monolithe Cours Charlemagne Lyon 'Le Monolithe', an energy efficient mixed-use urban block located in the development area Confluence at the southern tip of Lyon's Presqu'île, has reached completion The structure with a total surface of m2 combines social housing, rental property, a residence for disabled people, offices and retail The block is composed of five sections, each one designed by a different architect, following the MVRDV masterplan: Pierre Gautier, Manuelle Gautrand, ECDM and Erik van Egeraat Landscape architects West 8 designed the public plaza MVRDV designed the head section which advertises over the full façade the European integration by quoting the EU constitution photo: ptk Project is not public! 5 photo: ptk photo: ptk Le Cube Orange Quai Rambaud Lyon This office building and designer showroom is situated at the old Industrial 'Port Rambaud' harbour, next to the new 'Confluences' development area, not far from the centre of Lyon The strong iconic character is given by the monolithic form and the orange perforated steel plates with different and irregular hole sizes who covers the building The Cube is situated next to the Saone river On the riverside a big hole goes through the building and breaks it's monotony A second cube in green colour and with two holes will be build next to the orange cube in 2013 photo: ptk Project is not public! 8 photo: ptk photo: ptk Opera de Lyon Place de la Comédie Lyon Jean Nouvel won the competition to extend and renovate the Opera House in Lyon, with a project that used the old building, particularly its grand ground- and first-floor façades on the south, east, and west, as a point of departure and reference for the new This way Nouvel linked the building to the surrounding official buildings, but the new drum roof, like the lid of an enormous jewel box, however, marks it as wholly contemporary By both night and day this dense and complex building forms a new landmark for the city This project has become very popular in this city, not only because it was breaking the rules of reacting on historical environment, but also because of its quality in mixed space design Project is public! 10 photo: Michael Noordam photo: Michael Noordam Gare de Saint-Exupéry TGV Aéroport Saint Exupéry Colombier-Saugnieu Gare de Saint-Exupéry TGV (formerly Gare de Satolas) is a railway station situated 20km from Lyon city centre Satolas was designed by Santiago Calatrava, built to serve the TGV line from Paris to Marseille and opened on 3 July 1994 The dramatic of the central hall s superstructure derives from one of Calatrava s sculptures: a balanced shape resembling a bird at the point of flight The building is a steel covered cement structure Above the tracks, a 300m long passenger concourse gives easy access to the platforms and is equipped with several travelators Satolas railway station is linked to Lyon's Satolas Airport by a footbridge This first airport (historically) to be served by a high speed station Unfortunately, this proximity to the airport has not helped the station Lack of interconnexion with Lyon's urban transport network is frequently cited for the station's low usage The arrival of the LESLY express tram in 2009 will help this situation [Wikipedia] photo: Michael Noordam Project is public!
