2 photo: FotosFraOslo photo: Linda Garrison Oslo City Hall Fridtjof Nansens plass Oslo Oslo City Hall houses the city council, city administration, and art studios and galleries The construction started in 1931, but was paused by the outbreak of World War II, before the official inauguration in 1950 Its characteristic architecture, artworks and the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, held on 10 December, makes it one of Oslo's most famous buildings It was designed by Arnstein Arneberg and Magnus Poulsson The roof of the eastern tower has a 49-bell carillon which plays every hour It is situated in Pipervika in central downtown Oslo The area was completely renovated and rebuilt to make room for the new city hall, back in the late 1920s In June 2005 it was named Oslo's "Structure of the Century", with 304% of the votes 1950 Main designer, Arnstein Arneberg Magnus Poulsson Nazar 2

3 photo: Snøhetta photo: Statsbygg Opera House Kirsten Flagstads plass 1 N-0150 Oslo The New Opera House has 3 main parts First the 'Front of House': the public areas located in the building s western section These include the main foyer, and 2 auditoriums The foyer is a grand, open room with a variety of lighting conditions and views to the surroundings This space is characterised by simple use of materials and minimal details Secondly the Back of House : these are the production areas of the building with workshops, storage areas, rehearsal rooms etc The architecture is functionally appropriate, the exterior façade is composed of metal panels Last part is the Roofscape: describes the building s monumental character The horizontal and sloping plane of the roof provides the opera with an unusually dramatic expression, quite different from the surrounding buildings Clad in white stone, and it s details will provide a holistic and symbolic character to the building while also allowing for a variety of experiences as one moves past it photo: Snøhetta Floor area/size m² Client Snøhetta Statsbygg Snohetta 3

4 Norwegian Glacier Museum Fylkesveg Fjærland The Norwegian Glacier Museum (Norwegian: Norsk Bremuseum) is a museum in Fjærland, Sogn og Fjordane, In 1989, started the work on the design of the Norwegian Glacier Museum, which opened in 1991 In 2002, the museum decided to expand The extension should house a new exhibition about climate change For this was a great challenge He had to alter the design of a building that he had thought to be complete already In the end, the extension was built around the existing cinema The construction work started in autumn 2006 In July 2007, the Ulltveit-Moe Climate Centre opened died 23rd of February ChenHou The Norwegian Glacier Museum is open daily from April to October April, May, September, October: 10 am - 4 pm June August: 9 am - 7 pm November - March: on request There is a one-day guide tour include glacier museum + two glaciers It starts with ferry from Balestrand to Fjærland You can also reach Fjærland from Oslo and Bergen, either by air plane to Sogndal, Førde or Sandane or via route 5 from Sogndal or Skei Travelling times to Fjærland from: Skei: 1/2 h (car - 30 km) Førde or Sandane Airport: 1,5 h (car - 80 km) Sogndal Airport: 50 min (car - 50 km) Bergen: 4-5 h (car or bus) Oslo: 6-8 h (bus or car via Lærdal) 4

5 DnB NOR Bygg A Dronning Eufemias gate Oslo Bygg A is the main building in the DnB NOR clauster Its a pixelated building, designed by MVRDV The project aims to create synergy and identity for the firm translating social and democratic culture into the design and making the space an enviable working facility MVRDV's building is conceived as a steel?rack? which permits adaptation to the flexible nature of the organisation The steel rack is wrapped in a stone skin, which adopts Norwegian environmental standards It appears as a rock, a strong shape within the boundaries of the Barcode The niches of this rock provide space for vegetation growth: the positioning of the pixels creates roof gardens or outside areas for every floor At street level the building volume is opened by sheltered entrance zones, and intersected by a public passage leading to the Oslo Central Station The pixelated design allows this specific response whilst being highly efficient and flexible 2013 MVRDV Nazar 5

6 The Hedmark Museum Strandveien Hamar In the barn from the farm Storhamar you find the permanent exhibitions of Hedmarksmuseet This barn was built in the 18th and 19th century, using the ruins of the medieval bishop's palace as parts of the walls When turning the building into a museum, the architect included modern installations which respectfully allow the historical remains to speak for themselves as well as keeping the opportunity for further archeological excavations 1979, Interior architect ChenHou Easter: The glass cathedral is open from noon (12) to 3 pm, Summer May - June: Tuesday - Sunday 10 am - 4 pm, June August: Every day 10 am - 5 pm, August - September: Tuesday - Sunday 10 am - 4 pm, Winter: Requested group tours only, post@domkirkeoddenno, Phone: Take train from Oslo or other big cities in to Hamar After arrival, walk along the lake shore to the museum 6
