YMCA OF SPRINGFIELD 2018 SUMMER CAMP Welcome to the Best Summer Ever Camp Staff: YMCA summer camp is where kids go to make new friends, discover hidden talents, and have the most fun ever!

2 YMCA OF SPRINGFIELD 2018 SUMMER CAMP Welcome to the Best Summer Ever Camp Staff: YMCA summer camp is where kids go to make new friends, discover hidden talents, and have the most fun ever! We are so excited for another summer of adventure at Camp Wa-Kon-Tah, our beautiful Lake Springfield site, both Downtown and Kerasotes YMCA locations, and our community-based camp in Rochester. The YMCA of Springfield has been hosting summer camps for over 100 years, so we understand summer camp is about making memories that will last a lifetime. We have a camp for every child, whether their love be outdoor adventures, art, science, sports or all of the above! Full day camps provide programmed activities from 9am to 4 pm. Drop off starts as early as 7am, with pick-up as late as 6pm. Early drop-off and late pick-up are ONLY available with full day camp enrollment. For campers enrolled in a full day of programming, we offer an opportunity to take part in a Summer Readers Program through a partnership with the Lincoln Library and Land of Lincoln Bookshare. Each week of full day camp will include a field trip or special activity, at least one day with time in the pool, and daily art or STEM activities. All campers will be divided into the following groups to engage in age-appropriate activities: 1 Trainees: Ages 5-6 Apprentices: Ages 7-8 Cadets: Ages 9-10 Heroes: Ages Legends: Ages 13+ All camp staff are certified in First Aid, CPR, and undergo training designed by experts in the summer camp industry. Topics include: child abuse prevention, water safety, and behavior management. Camper safety is our number one priority. Application to our Junior Counselor Program is available to anyone ages The JuCo Program requires an application, interview, and $50 registration fee. There are openings for junior counselors at all full day sites. Once accepted, a junior counselor will undergo the same training as our camp counselors and attend camp free of charge. Pick up an application at front desk or online. Deadline May 1. Applicants not accepted will receive a refund. CAMP INFORMATION Registration & Payment Information There is a $25 deposit per week required at time of registration. Deposits are non-refundable and non-transferrable.

The YMCA reserves the right to cancel camp registration for a child with an outstanding balance after the due date.

Payment on weekly balance is due in full seven days prior to the start of the registered week of camp. Ex: Week One of Camp begins Monday June 4, balance for Week One paid in full by Monday May 28. The YMCA reserves the right to cancel camp registration for a child with an outstanding balance after the due date. Financial Assistance YMCA Strong Kids Scholarship funds are available for summer camping programs as well as financial assistance through third-party providers, such as Community Connection Point (CCP). If you are interested in applying for a YMCA Strong Kids Scholarship, guidelines and applications are available at the front desk of both branches and online. CCP Q&A: April 18, 2018 Downtown YMCA 5:30-7:30 For families with CCP/DCFS approval: If you want your child to attend camp before you receive your approval notice from third party payors, you are responsible for paying the full rate of camp fees. Reimbursement requests will be accepted and reviewed on an individual basis. Registration for third party payees must be done in person at the front desk of either YMCA branch. Online registration is not available. A copy of your approval notice must be attached to each registration form. A non-refundable, non-transferrable $5.00 deposit for each week of camp is required for registration, regardless of co-pay amount. All registrations with an attached approval notice will be reviewed and confirmed by the Program Accounting Assistant. Families will be notified within 3-5 business days of their payment amount and due date. A payment and Attendance Agreement Form must be signed and submitted at the time of registration. 4 CAMP Wa-Kon-Tah ACTIVITIES YMCA Camp Wa-Kon-Tah has hosted campers for over 60 years at our 26-acre Lake Springfield property. Campers, ages 5-15, spend their time between our campgrounds and the Downtown branch. Our campers will also go on a variety of age appropriate field trips. NEW THIS YEAR: Campers registered for Chatham drop off/pick up will spend time at the Downtown YMCA each week. See page 4 for daily activities. 3 WA-KON-TAH IMPORTANT INFORMATION 1. Bring a snack and water bottle daily. 2. Due to water play and pool schedule, we recommend suits and towels daily. 3. No open-toed shoes. 4. Week 11 takes place at Downtown YMCA ONLY. 5. For Downtown drop-off the bus leaves at 8:00 AM. Campers arriving after 7:45 AM will need to be taken directly to Camp Wa-Kon-Tah. We are pleased to continue our partnership with the Central Illinois Foodbank. The Foodbank is a sponsor of the Summer Food Program, administered by the Illinois State Board of Education, which allows the YMCA to provide daily sack breakfasts, hot lunches on non-field trip days, and sack lunches on field trip days. The meals are catered in, and because of the grant, there is no additional fee to our participants. If your child has special dietary needs please provide them with a sack lunch.

Pokemon Madness (Half-Day: Afternoon) Bring your own cards and have fun creating new ones as we go crazy in the world of all things Pokemon! WEEK 2: June WaterWorld I (Full Day) Our most popular camp is a week packed full of water games and activities. WEEK 3: June Rebel Alliance (Half-Day: Morning) Back for a second year, this camp is perfect for campers with a love of all things Star Wars and a special interest in learning the ways of the Force. Nerf Wars (Half-Day: Afternoon) Bring your Nerf guns, bows, and blasters for a camp full of mazes, secret attacks and battle strategy. WEEK 4: June STEM: Adventures in Architecture (Full Day) Discover all the fun aspects of designing and building spaces for life, work, and play. WEEK 5: July 2-6 (4th of July CLOSED) H 2 O (Half-Day: Morning) A camp about all things water as we explore the ways it s used in science and play. Fun in the Water (Half-Day: Afternoon) A couple of afternoons in the pool and a few more surrounded by water balloons make this the perfect way to beat the heat. 5 OPEN HOUSE/PARENTS Q&A: May 4, :30-6:30 WEEK 6: July 9-13 Global Exploration: Around the World in 5 Days (Full Day) Travel with us as we spend each day in a different country learning their customs, favorite games, and maybe even a special snack or two. WEEK 7: July Hogwarts Adventures (Half-Day: Morning) Come explore the wizarding world with us as we make wands, mix potions, and create our own magical beasts. Brain Games (Half-Day: Afternoon) Stretch your mind and impress your friends as we test optical illusions, play games that require a little math, and learn a magic trick or two. WEEK 8: July Fantasy Land: Dragons, Fairies, and Wizards - Oh My! (Full Day) Train your dragon, build your wings, and perfect your potion; all skills we ll develop this week. WEEK 9: July 30- August 3 Zen (Half-Day: Morning) From daily yoga, to journals, to drawing mandalas; spend time with us as we focus on developing inner perspective. Art Camp (Half-Day: Afternoon) Grab a paint brush, a pencil, and come prepared to get messy; we re going stretch your creativity this week. WEEK 10: August 6-10 WaterWorld II (Full Day) Our second week of all things fun and amazing in the water. KERASOTES IMPORTANT INFORMATION 1. WEEK 4: June Babysitting This week covers first aid, emergency procedures, playtime activities, and a host of other responsibilities necessary to being a safe and effective babysitter. WEEK 6: July 9-13 STEM: Gross-ology Learn the science behind those things that are icky, sticky, and just plain gross. Passing, dribbling, shooting. Contests will be held during this fun, exciting yet competitive camp. Members, $100 or Public, $150 Half Day camp fees: Members, $70/week or Public, $90/week Full Day Gymnastics Fee: Members, $125/week or Public, $175/week SPORTS & FITNESS Half-Day Camps WEEK 3: June Soccer 9 a.m.-12 p.m. (at Southern View Park) Ages 8-12 Players are taught how to pass, trap, dribble and shoot. Skills are conducted in groups and teams with drills, contests, and scrimmages running each and everyday. College and local high school soccer players instruct campers. Younger campers learn the fundamentals, and our more experienced campers learn the game situations and tactics to be successful. Youth Sports Conditioning 1-4 p.m. (Kerasotes) Ages Calling all athletes! Want to increase your speed, strength, coordination, agility and overall fitness level? This camp is the one for you. Take endurance and strength to a new level. Sport conditioning helps reduce injuries and gives athletes a foundation to handle joint and muscle stress. WEEK 4: June Fencing 9 a.m.-12 p.m. (Downtown) Ages 8-14 One of the only five sports to be included in every Olympic game. Fencing is exciting, fun and very challenging. We will introduce the foil weapon along with proper technique, rules and the art of teamwork. All gear will be provided. Kids Strength Training 1-4 p.m.(downtown) Ages In strength training for pre-teens, the most important issue is using the proper techniques. Our certified trainers are knowledgeable in exercising for lean muscles and using bodyweight exercises like crunches, squats and jumps to build strength. Trainers will introduce age-appropriate equipment like IntroFit Kettlebells, resistance bands, glider disks, hand weights, stability balls and more. But the key to youth fitness is fun, so we will include games, challenges, races and lots of music! WEEK 6: July 9-13 Youth Sports Conditioning 1-4 p.m.(kerasotes) Ages Calling all athletes! WEEK 8: July Soccer 9 a.m.-12 p.m. (at Southern View Park) Ages 8-12 Players are taught how to pass, trap, dribble and shoot. Gymnastics (Downtown) Full-Day Camp 9a.m.-4p.m. Gymnastics Campers will work on all events: floor, bars, beam, vault and springboard in the YMCA s gymnastic gymnasium, complete with spring floor. Gymnasts will be placed in skill groups. This all-day camp has many other activities including games, swimming, art projects and more. This is a party group so be ready for dress up days and themes. Bring a snack, swimsuit, and flip-flops. Week 3, June 18-22: 6-12 yrs. Week 5, July 2-6: 6-12 yrs. *CLOSED Wednesday, July 4th* Week 8, July 23-27: 6-12 yrs.
