3 Finest Staff JCA Camp Directors and camp counselors work to ensure a positive, safe and fun environment for children. Our mature and professional counselors contribute their experience, knowledge and enthusiasm to provide an unforgettable camp experience for children and families. Theresa Levy, Camp Gan Yeladim and KinderCamp Director Theresa has worked in early childhood at the JCA for twenty-five years and as Director of Camp Gan Yeladim for the past twenty-two. She holds a B.S. from Boston University and a C.S.S. from Harvard. Theresa is the director of JCA s Michele Block Gan Yeladim NAEYC, GSOD and FKC accredited preschool, kindergarten and enrichment programs. Dave Flagler, Camp Sabra Director Dave, Director of Family Programs and Jewish Outreach, serves as Camp Sabra s director for his second year. Dave graduated from the University of Florida and holds a M.A. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. Dave was Assistant Camp Director at Camp Young Judaea Midwest and Camp and Teen Director at the Salt Lake City JCC. Betsy Miller, Camp Habonim Director Betsy has been a JCA camp director for the past thirteen summers. During the school year, she is the Youth Services Director and oversees programs such as the After School program, J CAtion Days and various enrichment programs and classes for youth. She holds a B.A. from the University of Central Florida. Rio Robinson, Adventure Days Pre and Post Camps Coach Rio has served as the Sports and Recreation Director at the JCA for the past thirteen years. Rio is a graduate of the University of Florida with a B.S. in Commercial Recreation and has worked with all age groups in recreation and sports settings. Shelly Higgins Hughes, Theatre Camp and J-Teens Director, Camping Services Coordinator Shelly is the Director of Theatre programming and Camping Services Coordinator for the JCA. Before coming to the J twenty years ago, she was an activities therapist for Daniel Memorial and the Educational Outreach Director and program facilitator for Theatre Jacksonville. 8 Camp Habonim Entering Grades 3 to 6 by Sept 1, 2017 Camp Habonim provides a summer camp experience tailormade for your unique child. Campers and their parents select specialty activities for each session, and the rest is up to us. Onsite specialties take place in the JCA s stateof-the art facility, while offsite specialties allow campers to experience all that Jacksonville has to offer in a safe and supervised capacity with transportation provided. All specialties utilize industry professionals to specifically design a curriculum that ensures your camper receives professional instruction that is age-specific. Specialty activities take place each morning, Monday through Thursday, and Friday, July 7. Lunch and snack provided daily. 10 Stage Door Theatre Camp Entering Grades 1 to 9 by Sept 1, 2017 Stage Door Theatre Camp gives creative campers the unique experience of working with theatre professionals while putting together a full scale stage show! Every day, campers have the opportunity to sing, dance, play characters, participate in acting games and create arts and crafts. Campers receive training in musical theatre-style dancing and Fit for Broadway aerobic-style dance, along with daily free swim and special activities. 11 Adventure Days Entering Grades K to 8 by Sept 1, 2017 Join us for our pre and post camps that are jam packed with a wide range of camp activities, including tennis, swimming, arts and crafts, board games, capture the flag, soccer, flag football, yoga, fencing and dance that are sure to send your camper home exhausted from the fun. Campers must wear or bring athletic shoes everyday along with swim gear for daily swimming. Lunch and snack provided daily. 12 J-Teens Learn Lead Grow Entering Grades 10 to 12 by Sept 1, 2017 J-Teens is designed for tenth to twelfth grade students to help develop leadership skills and knowledge related to children and camping while participating in unique camp experiences designed just for their age group. This dynamic program is offered in two stages: Stage one Beginning in April 2017, six 2-hour training sessions are held with topics on team building, child development, communication, health and safety and self-reflection. These sessions are taught by JCA professional staff and provide insight to the mission and inner workings of the JCA. Stage two This stage is during camp. Teens are placed in a specific camp group to learn and participate in the camp environment, assist where appropriate and interact with campers, utilizing skills acquired in stage one. Time is spent each week with other J-Teens in leadership development and social activities. Program Requirements Commitment to all 6 training sessions Commitment to at least 4 out of 8 weeks of camp (concurrent with sessions offered), 9 am - 3:30 pm Two written recommendations, at least one from a current teacher JCA membership Registration is required by Friday, March 31, 2017 Cost $ 400 for full program; JCA members only. Learn-to-Swim Program JCA is an authorized provider for the American Red Cross. All skills taught follow the Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program guidelines. Swim Instruction K Ton and Tovim Gan Yeladim campers, KinderCamp and Sabra campers JCA swim instructors are certified and trained Water Safety Instructors (W.S.I.) and Water Safety Instructor Aides (W.S.I.A.) 15 Fees a n d Deposits Applicants must be in good financial standing with the JCA to register for any camp program. All applications must be turned in to the Registrar s Office. Required deposits per session, per child Adventure Days, Sabra, Habonim, M - F $ 75 KinderCamp, Gan Yeladim, J-Teens Gan Yeladim T/Th $ 25 Gan Yeladim M/W/F $ 50 Theatre M - F $ 150 Extended Day $ 25 Deposits are not refundable or transferable to other JCA programs outside of camp. Sabra, Habonim and Theatre offer a 5 % discount for campers who register for a minimum of eight weeks with full payment at the time of registration. This discount is applicable only for these camps and offered until February 24. Payments must be made by cash or check only. No discounts on Habonim specialty programs. This discount does not apply to those receiving financial assistance. Balances for all camp programs regardless of session must be paid in full by May 5. The JCA will not guarantee placement if balances are outstanding after that date. Refunds of camp fees for any sessions will be granted, less deposits, only if the JCA is notified in writing of withdrawal prior to May 5. Notification of withdrawal after May 5 results in loss of all fees paid. All changes (in writing) regarding registration, including schedules, sessions and specialties, result in a $ 15 per change fee payable at the time the change is made. After May 5 there is no credit issued for changes to schedules with lesser tuitions. Camp fees include lunch for Adventure Days, KinderCamp, Sabra, Habonim and Theatre, a camp t-shirt and daily snack. Registration Camps are open to all children regardless of race, religious affiliation or ethnic origin. Membership is not required, but JCA members and Patty Cake age children registered for the preschool/preschool plus program have priority registration through March 24. Non members are encouraged to submit applications with deposits early to secure a space on the waiting list. In the event space is not available, all monies are refunded. Cabin requests must be reciprocal and written on registration forms. Our cabin groups are designed to meet each camper s individual needs; however, the JCA reserves the right to discontinue service in the event that a camper s placement does not serve the best interests of the individual or group. Financial Aid Adjusted fees are available on the basis of financial need and the availability of funds. Fee adjustment forms, with required documentation including 2016 tax return, must be received by March 15 to be considered for disbursement by April 2. Late applications are accepted until April 30 for disbursement of any remaining funds. All paperwork must be fully completed. Please indicate on your registration form if you wish to receive a fee adjustment packet. Full deposits are still required upon application.
