Through careful hiring, innovative programming, and a focus on positive values and character education in a Jewish setting, campers learn new skills, accomplish realistic goals, and return home each day happy and looking forward to the next day of camp. Our counselors come from across the Columbia area and are hired for their experience, creativity, and caring nature. All staff is trained in Red Cross First Aid and certified in CPR. Staff is trained in appropriate program planning, water safety, good child care practices and more. 4 Pre-school Camp Gesher Starbursts: Ages Our camp pre-school is situated in a carpeted, inviting and climate controlled closed classroom at the JCC. Directed by a seasoned & certified pre-school teacher, our summer program provides nurturing & caring counselors and staff, arts and crafts, swim lessons, cooking, music, gym, toddler tennis visiting speakers, circle time, sand and water play, reading buddies & more. Naps/Rest hour are a part of our day -- with alternate programming for our non-nappers. We are a supportive potty-learning environment with a camper to staff ratio of 5:1.

5 School Aged Camp Gesher Milky Ways: Rising Kindergarten to Rising 2 nd Grade Gesher Comets: Rising 3 rd Grade to rising 5 th grade Gesher Galaxies: rising 6 th grade - rising 8 th grade Counselor In Training Program: rising 9 th grade Exciting program highlights of the 2018 Camp Gesher season include: partnering with the University of South Carolina and Department of Education on youth nutrition and benefits of healthy snacking as well as the US Department of Agriculture s Summer Lunch Program to serve our campers and ensure a healthy summer. The JCC also has 22 acres of private, maintained land, covered outdoor areas, an outdoor playground, an outdoor gaga pit, a high-school regulation sized indoor basketball gymnasium with new equipment, an indoor heated salt water swimming pool, weekly indoor tennis, an indoor running track, and supervised use of cardio equipment for ages 13 and up. All campers will receive a weekly aquatics skills certificate detailing their accomplishments in our state-of-the-art facility. Campers in the Galaxy group will go on weekly field trips focusing on skills development and career explorations. This year we are introducing The Camp Gesher Counselor In Training Program (CIT) is the first step in the transition from camper to staff member. This program is for those entering 9th grade who are ready to take on new challenges, opportunities and responsibilities at camp. Participants in the CIT program will gain a meaningful leadership experience while actually putting the skills they develop into practice on a daily basis.

7 We offer a weekly program with the camp day beginning at 9 am and ending at 3:30 pm. We also offer counselor coverage and activities for early morning care from 7:30 am and afternoon care until 5:45 pm.
