2 Oregon Visitors are drawn to the scenic beauty of Oregon, which combines historic towns, sleepy fishing villages, ski resorts and wineries. The landscape is rich with diversity from its nearly 644 km (400 miles) of spectacular coastline and mountains, to lakes, rivers, streams, deserts and forests. The low Coast Range runs parallel to the Pacific Ocean and is forested with spruce, fir and hemlock; in fact, nearly half the state is forested. Weather moves eastwards from the ocean across the Willamette Lowlands to the rugged Cascade Mountains, soaring to the highest peak of Mt Hood, at 3,353 m (11,239 ft), where cold, moist air dumps heavy snowfalls. East of the Cascades, the state s agriculture flourishes on the drier Columbia Plateau. From Interstate 5, Take Exit 14 in Ashland, Oregon. Turn on Highway 66 toward Klamath Falls. Follow Highway 66 for 17 miles until you reach the Green Springs Inn. Turn north onto the Bureau of Land Management's East Hyatt Lake Road. Follow the road for approximately 3 miles until you reach the Hyatt Lake Area. Stay to the right on East Hyatt Lake Road; an entry booth, located at the entrance to the campground, has visitor camping information. A boat launch for Fish Lake (10 mph) is within the campground and many amenities are offered at nearby Fish Lake Resort. From Medford, OR, take OR-140 (Lake of the Woods Hwy) about 20 miles to Fish Lake Campground. From Klamath Falls, take OR-140 (Falls Hwy) about 4 miles past Lake of the Woods to the Campground. 19 Bend Cow Meadow Campground Park # Restrooms Rate: $10 Bend, OR (541) Crane Prairie Reservoir Deschutes River Biking, hiking, fishing, swimming, boating This campground features a large grassy meadow with mostly lodgepole pine trees providing shade. It is right on the river, but close to Crane Prairie Reservoir. The campground is situated where Snow Creek and the Deschutes River flow into the Crane Prairie Reservoir. This area offers outstanding fishing and wildlife viewing opportunities. Spectacular lakes, peaks and old-growth forests set the backdrop for individual or family camping excursions. From Bend, go west on the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway, which becomes Forest Road 46. Follow this road to its intersection with Forest Road 42, about 52 miles from Bend. Turn onto Forest Road 42 at the sign for Twin Lakes and Crane Prairie. This campground offers opportunities for waterskiing, windsurfing, swimming, sailing, and jet skiing on the lake as well as access to trails that lead north into the Three Sisters Wilderness. It is on the north end of Elk Lake and offers opportunities for fishing and access to hiking and horseback riding trails. From Bend, Oregon, go south on Highway 97 for nearly 27 miles to Wickiup Junction. Turn west on Road 43 and continue for 11 miles, then turn west on Forest Service Road 42 for 4.6 miles. From Bend, travel southwest on Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway for 35.5 miles. Turn onto Forest Road 4625 and travel 1.7 miles east to the campground entrance. 28 Bend South Campground Park # Restrooms Rate: $12 Bend, OR (541) Hosmer Lake Mallard Marsh Biking, hiking, fishing, swimming, boating Commonly referred to as the Hosmer Lake Campgrounds, South and neighboring Mallard Marsh each have a loyal following of campers who return every year. This campground provides opportunities for flyfishing as well as access to trails for hiking and horseback riding. From Bend, travel 35.5 miles southwest on Cascade Lakes Hwy (46), then 1.3 miles east on Forest Road South Campground will come up on the right side first and then Mallard Marsh. 29 Bend South Twin Lake Campground Park # Restrooms, laundry South Twin Lake Biking, hiking, fishing, swimming, boating From Bend, travel 26.8 miles south on Hwy 97 to Wickiup Junction, then 11.0 miles west on County Road 43, then continue 4.6 miles west on Forest Road 42, and finally 2.0 miles south on Forest Road Rate: $18 Bend, OR (541) Located on the shore of South Twin Lake near Wikiup Reservoir, this campground offers visitors some of the most stunning scenery in central Oregon and easy access to an abundance of recreational activities in the Cascade region. 30 Blue River Delta Campground Park # Restrooms Rate: $20 Blue River, OR (801) McKenzie River Terwilliger Hot Springs Biking, hiking, fishing, swimming, boating Known for its access to rafting and drift boat fishing on the McKenzie River, Delta campground is one of the largest and most scenic campgrounds on the McKenzie District. Access to the river, Cougar Reservoir and Terwilliger Hot Springs make this campground a great spot for camping and exploring the area. Several hiking trails are in the surrounding wilderness, guarded by large Douglas fir and western red cedar trees. Visitors can also enjoy a short botanical walk on the Delta Old Growth Nature Trail. A Day Use area and amphitheater are also available at the campground. Located 51 miles from Eugene OR on HWY 126 to the Cougar Reservoir turn off. Take a right turn on Aulderheide RD and cross the McKenzie River, turn right into the campground entrance rd. Follow the rd approximately 1 mile to the CG. 32 Burns Idlewild Campground Park # Restrooms Blue Mountains Malheur National Forest Biking, hiking From the city of Burns, Oregon, take U.S. Highway 395 approximately 17 miles north. There are signs for the campground 1/2-mile from the site in both directions. Rate: $10 Burns, OR (541) The campground is situated along Highway 395 north of Burns, Oregon. In the summer, it is popular with hikers and mountain bikers. In the winter, visitors can snowmobile and cross-country ski. 33 Burns Yellowjacket Campground Park # Restrooms Rate: $10 Burns, OR (541) Yellowjacket Lake Biking, hiking, fishing, swimming, boating This campground sits on the quiet shores of Yellowjacket Lake. This beautiful and quiet location offers abundant birding and wildlife viewing opportunities with eagles, osprey and pronghorn antelope frequenting the area. The lake has a small sand beach and an easily accessible shoreline for fishing. This campground has a very nice covered group picnic area. From Burns, OR., travel west on US Highway 20 to the junction with the County Road 127/Forest Road 47. Turn right onto County Road 127/ Forest Road 47 at the sign for Yellowjacket Lake and Delintment Lake. Follow County Road 127/ Forest Road 47 for approximately 30 miles to the junction with Forest Road 37. Turn right onto Forest Road 37 and continue on for approximately 2.3 miles to the junction with Forest Road Turn right on to Forest Road 3745 and continue for 1 mile then turn right at the end of Yellowjacket Lake. It was used by U.S. Army soldiers stationed at Ft. Walla Walla as a summer encampment and artillery range from the late 1880s through Visitors who explore the campground and surrounding area can even find grooves in trees left by the Calvary's bullets. Located at the end of the road is the Burnt Cabin Trailhead. This trail will lead you down to the South Fork Walla Walla River Trail.
