2 Newfoundland Newfoundland and Labrador is almost three times the size of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island combined, and is bordered by 29,000 km (18,125 miles) of craggy coastline. The province is filled with historic towns and landmarks documenting its beginnings as Canadian land, and its much-lauded maritime connections. And it is strange to think that you are actually closer here to Ireland's Cape Clear than to Ontario's Thunder Bay. Turn left onto Highway 431 at Wiltondale. Rate: $19-$26 Wiltondale, NL (709) The campground is the former site of the town of Lomond and a wood mill that were built in 1916 by the St. Lawrence Timber, Pulp & Steamship Company. Unlike many of the communities in this area Lomond was a lumber town. Between resettlement efforts in the 1960s and the creation of the Gros Morne National Park in 1973, Lomond disappeared.
