3 1. Introduction This manual refers to TREDICI - straight drop awning with manual or motorised operation. The instruction manual is for all users of the awning whether an installer, maintenance worker or owner. The handling, unpacking, installation, commissioning and maintenance instructions are to be adhered to by the installer. The instructions for the correct use and maintenance are addressed to the owner. This manual is an integral part of the product. The manual must be carefully conserved in good condition and always available for future consultation. In the event that the manual is lost the owner can ask the retailer for a replacement copy; in that case the owner will specify the principal product information and the address where the manual needs to be sent. If the awning is sold on, the manual must accompany it to the new owner. The manual must always be available for consultation by the authorised technicians for the installation, maintenance and commissioning of the awning. The manufacturer is entitled to update the production and relevant manuals without any obligation to update previous manuals. Please carefully read all warnings and instructions outlined in this manual before carrying out any operation. 2. General & safety information 2.1 Designed use for TREDICI awning The awning has been designed and constructed exclusively as an external sun protection product for commercial and residential buildings. The awning must only be used for this purpose, even if it is covered with waterproof or PVC fabric. Any other use is improper and incorrect and releases the manufacturer from all liability for any damage caused to people or property. The TREDICI awning if properly installed is categorized as a Class 3 (ES 13561:2004 product standards) assuring that the product is resistant to winds that exert a maximum pressure of 110 (Nm) or similar to a persistent wind speed of 49 (km/h) For safety reasons, the awning must be retracted before the above limits are reached or during the event of hail or snow. It is dangerous to leave the awning down in these cases as it can cause damage to people or property. Failure to adhere to these instructions will result in the manufacturers warranty becoming invalid. Manufactures authorisation must be obtained before using the awning for any other purpose than those outlined above. Failure to adhere to these instructions will result in the manufacturers warranty becoming invalid. 2.2 Suitable environment The TREDICI awning offers suitable protection for the electrical parts against water infiltration. The awning has been designed and constructed for external use. The motors have IP44 humidity protection. 2.3 Optional safety devices Wind sensor: In the event of sustained strong winds, the sensor will retract the awning automatically. The sensitivity level of the wind sensor is set during installation. NOTE wind sensors are not a guarantee as factors such as wind direction, wind gusts and loss of continual power supply can limit its function. Sun sensor: In the event of direct sunshine, the awning extends down automatically. The sensitivity of this sensor is set during installation. NOTE: sun sensors are affected by shading from surrounding landscapes and/or cloud cover. TREDICI Manual 2

4 2.4 Recommendations This manual lists instructions for the correct handling, storing, installation, use and maintenance of the awning in accordance with the Machine Directive and other standards relevant to the product. Following the instructions is essential to prevent an injury to people or damage to the awning. The awning must be installed by carefully observing the instructions outlined in this manual. Any other installation method could be potentially dangerous. A step by step guide to correct installation is outlined in section 6 of this manual. Do not tamper with or alter the awning. Should the awning be tampered with or any alterations made without the written authorization from the manufacturer, the latter is released from all liability for any damage that may be caused and will result in the manufacturers warranty becoming invalid. 3. Technical description The TREDICI has been designed and constructed following the principals of the constant innovation, impeccable workmanship and attention to details in compliance with the Gibus Total Quality philosophy, a series of values that have been studied to guarantee total customer satisfaction. TREDICI is a vertical cassette awning with guides that incorporate a zip system. This system ensures the fabric is kept securely within the guides to provide total protection. The system is implemented by a patented system for tensioning the fabric and achieving a full seal. It is the ideal solution to protect the sides or front of the Mediterranea awnings, opening roofs or provide shade to windows or outdoor rooms. The wind resistance depends on the type of fabric used however all TREDICI products are categorized as a Class 3 assuring that they are resistant to winds that exert a maximum pressure of 110 (Nm) or similar to a persistent wind speed of 49 (km/h). The 3-part guides are adjustable and are easy to install to walls that are not perfectly straight. The zip guide is cushioned to better absorb gusts of wind while the cassette, guides and end caps are all powder coated aluminium. The awning is to be installed on the ceiling by means of fast coupling ceiling brackets. The operation is controlled by a winch with a magnetic removable crank or standard RTS motor. 3.1 Electronic components in the awning (optional) As an optional extra the TREDICI awning may be controlled electronically by wind or sun/wind sensors. If either of these items are added they will need to be set within the limits below: Never set wind speed higher than the max wind resistance of the awning (recommended max limit for TREDICI is 30km/h Reaction times: Wind detection after 3 seconds, retract command Sun detection after 2 minutes, roll down command No sun after 15 minutes, retract command IMPORTANT: The instructions for installation, use, maintenance and the conformity certificates for the control units are enclosed with the packaging for the units, which are consigned together with the awning. The instructions must be carefully read, attached to this manual and be kept in good condition for future consultation. TREDICI Manual 3

13 7. Maintenance and cleaning The installation and commissioning as well as regular maintenance must be performed by qualified personnel. Scheduled maintenance must be carried out by your Gibus technician by the end of 2nd year of installation, to enable extended warranty to 5 years. If the maintenance is not carried out, the Gibus warranty is immediately void. Use only Gibus original spare parts for the warranty to be valid. The maintenance work that is carried out by the end of the 2nd year from the installation by a Gibus technician, involves checking, the guides, moving parts and the fabric. 7.1 Standard maintenance Due to high quality of the materials used for the construction of the awning, no particular standard maintenance work is necessary except for the following: Visually checking the state of the fabric at least twice a year in the spring before summer use and in the Autumn before it is closed for the winter. Make sure the fabric is clean and that there is no mould caused by dust or other materials before the summer, Lubricate the moving parts with silicon lubricant every 3-6 months Clean the fabric, if required, using a damp sponge or cloth soaked in warm water and mild detergent. Allow fabric to dry before retracting. DO NOT use solvents, ammonia or hydrocarbons DO NOT use alkaline products on PVC fabrics as they cause opaqueness and decrease transparency 7.2 Fabric limitations Mould: given the high level of pollutants in our atmosphere which lead to acid rain, if the awning is installed near to road, air ducts, forest trees with risk of dripping resin and leaves, and even though they are treated with anti-mould, if they are not frequently cleaned the fabrics can be attacked by microorganisms which make it impossible to clean afterwards CREASES: Cobweb effect: can form when the fabric is being made up, especially in light colours these creases become darker marks, however they do not affect the quality of the awning. WAVES: can form near to the sewing and side edges due to the double thickness of the fabric. FRAYING AND ABRASION: if the awning is exposed to continuous strong winds, it may show signs of wear, fraying and abrasion Due to the weight and thickness of clear and tinted it can fold and crease. The problems outlined in the previous points, are not product defects and are not covered by the warranty Fabrics must only be folded only if it is dry; if the fabric is rolled up when it is wet it can be attacked by mould more easily and waves can form near the sewing. Failure to respect the recommended conditions for use automatically invalidates all forms of the manufacturer s warranty. If there are any doubts, contact the retailer. TREDICI Manual 12

14 9. Five year Warranty Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Clear and tinted PVC fabrics are excluded from the extension of the warranty. 3rd year, the warranty covers 60% of damage 4th year, the warranty covers 50% of damage 5th year, the warranty covers 35% of damage 8.3 Without costs The vendor guarantees to repair or replace the faulty product free of charge. The consumer is obliged to prove that the warranty is still valid, by producing the delivery document issued by the vendor or another document of proof (tax receipt, till receipt or similar) which bears the name of the vendor and the date of sale. 8.4 Regulations for warranty validity Observe the designed use for the product. Ensure that the compulsory maintenance work is carried out at the given time to extend the warranty to 5 years. The installation and compulsory maintenance work must only be carried out by a Gibus technician, and proof given in the warranty declaration. The electric and electronic parts (motor, remotes and sensors) on the awing must be supplied by Gibus. 8.5 Exclusions The warranty is not valid in cases of improper use of the awning or, in particular if it is used for any commercial, business or professional purposes. The warranty does not cover any malfunctions caused by negligence or careless use (e.g. failure to observe the instructions for the correct use of the awning), incorrect installation or maintenance by unauthorised persons, damage caused in transport, or due to circumstances which are not related to manufacturing faults and/or conformity of the product.
