3 JORDAN LAKE DAY SAIL AND PADDLE Saturday, July 28 #BT1802 Join your friends at Jordan Lake for a fun day of sailing, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding (pretty much anything that floats is welcome). Bring a picnic lunch, bring a friend, bring the kids and enjoy the beach at Vista Point for a relaxing day of sailing, paddling and socializing. This is the perfect event for our new members to make new acquaintances or for members to bring a guest that might be interested in joining RSOC. It is also a great event to spend time with your kids. No experience is necessary. Bring sunscreen, a chair, blanket and/or umbrella, a lunch, and nonalcoholic drinks. Vista Point has a sandy beach that s great for relaxing when not in the water. The only cost for this trip is the $6 State Park entrance fee (less for seniors). Sign up in advance or contact the trip Coordinator to let us know you are coming and so we can contact you in case of cancellation. A minimum of 5 to 6 people are needed to help load and unload the boats. If we do not have enough people signed up by the Friday prior, the event may be cancelled. The club has three Sunfish type sailboats that will be available starting about 11:00 a.m. If you own a sailboat, powerboat, kayak, or stand up paddleboard and would like to share your watercraft with other club members, please come out and help make the day even more fun! Meeting/start time: 11:00 a.m. End time: 5:00 p.m. Maximum attendees: 40 Coordinator: Mark Senior mr2senior@gmail.com OUTDOOR EVENING FILM, GET OUT NORTH CAROLINA MUSEUM OF ART Saturday, August 11 #LE1812 The most audacious movie of 2017 is this genre-shattering retelling of the gentle Guess Who s Coming to Dinner? as a horror film. Jordan Peele deservedly won an Oscar for penning a pivot on the romcom staple of meeting the girlfriend s parents in a bucolic suburb. Drinking a cup of tea will never be the same again. As Time magazine described, Even though all self-proclaimed progressive people like to think we re comfortable talking about racial divisions in America, we re really not. And that s what makes Get Out pretty close to a work of genius. (2017) Written and directed by Jordan Peele. Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Bradley Whitford, Catherine Keener. (104 minutes) R. Picnics are welcome. Alcoholic beverages may not be brought in; all nonalcoholic beverages, including water, must arrive in factory-sealed containers. Bring your lawn chairs, a dish to share and we can relax before the movie starts. Location: The lawn at North Carolina Museum of Art, 2110 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh. Meeting/start time: 7:00 p.m. for pre-film visiting; 8:00 p.m. for Get Out End time: Approximately 9:45 p.m. (after film) Event fee: $6.00 non-members; free for NCMA members. Please note that everyone needs a ticket for entry. Maximum attendees: 20 Guests allowed: no limit Coordinator: Dwen Andrews 919/ / dwencita@gmail.com Coordinator: Ken Schuster EVENING BIKE RIDES Please Ken Schuster to be added to the whatsapp app to receive updates on local evening bike rides in various locales across the Triangle. All riding abilities are welcome. The rides are usually followed up with some much needed refreshments and food at a local dining establishment. kschoo2429@yahoo.com RSOC July 2018 Page 3
