3 I would like to welcome everyone back for the New Year, as we head to our Branch AGM I would ask you to consider being on our Committee to assist in running our Branch. This year I would like to see a Social Committee and a Special Events Committee to take the pressure off some of the other Committee members who for some years have put in a lot of hours for these events to take place. I would like to put out a special thank you to Pumbaa who took time out to put someone else in front of himself by taking Paul Fletcher a Ulyssian from Rockhampton who is the Wesley Hospital for treatment and suffering riding withdrawal for a ride. Pumbaa, Paul, Keren & I went for a ride to Boonah, Aratula and then home via Rosewood, Marburg, Fernvale, Mt Glorious and Mt Nebo. Paul had a wonderful day out which lifted his spirits prior to his next round of treatment. I hope everyone has a happy and safe riding year. Cheers, Russell I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by. Douglas Adams Page 3 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter February 2014

12 Repairing Puncture in Front Tyre on Victory Cross Country Well once again a new set of tyres and in a matter of a few weeks I get a puncture, only this time in the front tyre. I repaired both myself, only this time I thought I d take a couple of photo s whilst undertaking this task Being a member of the Iron Butt Association and Far Riders, I frequently undertake long distance riding and this is done mainly solo. As such I have fitted my Victory XC with HID Lights, LED Riding Lights and also carry my own repair kits for any type of mishaps; or to help a large number of Harley s on the side of the road. Part of my kit includes the following: Tyre repair kit with 3 C02 Canisters IB Bike Lift this helps me to jack the bike on the side stand and not myself MotoPressor air compressor kit (even though I have 3 x C02 Canisters I want to be sure to be sure) Fairly comprehensive tool kit First aid Kit Plus other stuff like various size cable ties Any way there a couple of photos showing the screw that found it s way into my front when I pulled it out I had noted that it must have fallen short on going through the whole tyre. However as I was at home I d rather be sure to be sure and fix it at home than on the streets. There is a photo of the IB Bike Lift - this was advertised on page 102 of Cruiser & Trike 2013 Vol.5 No.4. Or you can look up ibbikelifts.biz costs around $60 delivered and is well worth it. There are also photos of the MotoPressor and where I have permanently mounted the attachment just under the left side of my fuel tank. It took less than 2 to put 37psi in the front tyre. I have also taken photos of the patch when put in and then after I had ridden around the block, to make sure all is well. Oh yeah the MotoPressor I bought at the Fraser Coast AGM and it is also advertised on page 49 of Riding On No. 120 I also recommend this; it could also be used to attached to a penis pump if you are in a hurry. All in all with the correct tools and environment this only took me a stubby to do it all. Cheers Minjin Page 12 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter February 2014

14 We had all up twelve bikes for the ride. Which also included members from Northern Gateway Branch who came along. We left Carseldine at usual time of 8.30 am and made out towards Springfield. Then headed towards Boonah for morning tea break at near Boonah Showgrounds. Our next stop was a fuel stop at Caltex. Then we headed our way through Warwick, then turned off Sandy Creek Road to the Darling Downs Pub for lunch. There was at the side of pub an undercover eating area. Some bought their lunches and others brought at the pub. Great meals and service. How many people does it take to fix a puncture in a tyre? Keith from Northern Gateway got a hole in rear tyre. Lucky Ross did have a repair kit. Out of four people that stopped and helped (3 men 1 woman) it took one particular person to figure out the instructions. Mmm I wonder who! It was a great day. 17 Harley-Davidson Facts The inventor of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle, Arthur Davidson, died and went to heaven. At the gates, St. Peter told Arthur. 'Since you've been such a good man and your motorcycles have changed the world, your reward is, you can hang out with anyone you want to in heaven.' Arthur thought about it for a minute and then said, ' I want to hang out with God.' St. Peter took Arthur to the Throne Room, and introduced him to God. God recognized Arthur and commented, 'Okay, so you were the one who invented the Harley- Davidson motorcycle? 'Arthur said, 'Yeah, that's me...' God commented: 'Well, what's the big deal in inventing something that's pretty unstable, makes noise and pollution and can't run without a road?' Arthur was a bit embarrassed, but finally spoke, 'Excuse me, but aren't you the inventor of woman?' God said, 'Ah, yes.' 'Well,' said Arthur, 'professional to professional, you have some major design flaws in your invention! 1 There's too much inconsistency in the front-end suspension 2. It chatters constantly at high speeds 3. Most rear ends are too soft and wobble about too much 4. The intake is placed way too close to the exhaust 5. The maintenance costs are outrageous!!!! 'Hmmmmm, you may have some good points there,' replied God, 'hold on.' God went to his Celestial supercomputer, typed in a few words and waited for the results. The computer printed out a slip of paper and God read it. 'Well, it may be true that my invention is flawed,' God said to Arthur, 'but according to these numbers, more men are riding my invention than yours'. Page 17 Ulysses Club Inc. 20 Lake Dyer (Laidley) Saturday morning started out well. No rain but a possible chance. Common weather report these days. Flyby, Jules, Ross, Lynette, Dave, Lyn Trish and I left Carseldine looking forward to a fun and adventurous weekend. Little did we know that it was to start earlier than the arrival at the camp site. With Dave leading and Flyby doing a Tailend Charlie and promising not to do a Pumba, we headed through the city. By the time we got through the city, it had started to rain. Flyby radioed to say that he was stopping to put his Phone into the topbox and that he would catch up. Right? We got to Black soil and no Flyby...Did he get stopped by the Laser Camera on the Ipswich Motorway? Who knows? We waited, and waited at the BP at Black soil but no Flyby. We guessed he had scooted down the Cunningham Hwy so we headed off. He was waiting for us at Laidley when we arrived. It was lightly raining when we arrived at the camp site and the Caretaker, Donna, was more than happy to see us. In fact she changed the sites around to make sure we were camped together. Rain stopped before we started to set up and never returned. The afternoon was spent looking around the camp site. The amenities were clean. The atmosphere we jovial and inviting. The campers were friendly. It was a great spot. The park was set up well with ample room to set up a camp, camper van or caravan. For the cost of $11 per night for two, it was more than value for money. Did I mention the wind. We had a bit of a blow on Saturday night. Oh and on Sunday. Sunday, it was Australia Day and both the camp and campers made sure it was known. Sunday morning tea was a ride down to Laidley to the Eagle Rock Café. A step back to the rock and roll era for bobby socks and duck tails. Laidley is a sleepy little town and a quiet walk around did give us some laughs, even if we were the brunt of them. Bronco Bucks and Historical houses. We took a ride out to The Mulga Pub at Mulgowie for lunch and a ride back through the fields to the camp site. Afternoon rests and laughter into the night for the last night at camp. Monday s ride back we via a coffee at Esk and back through Kilcoy. Daz Page 20 Ulysses Club Inc. 22 Australia Day Weekend At Casino The Australia Day Weekend, Pumbaa, Keren & myself travelled to Casino with Northern Gateway Branch for their weekend away. It started for us with 5 bikes & 1 car meeting at Caltex Carseldine on the Saturday morning for the ride to Casino. I don t how but I ended up the ride leader. The 5 bikes were made up of 3 from Redcliffe Branch & 2 from Northern Gateway. We headed of for Canungra as our smoko stop; this took us out the South East Freeway to Mains Road exit where we headed down Beaudesert Road to Jimboomba and Canungra. From there we travelled to Nimbin which would be our lunch stop, always an interesting place to visit to see how the other side live. In Nimbin we ran into other members from Northern Gateway, who were already camped at Casino earlier in the week. We then rode to our destination in Casino using a couple of roads we had not travelled before which made a nice change. After booking and setting up, had the obligatory Happy Hour, which like ours had the usual too much food and lots of beverages. That night we had a huge cook up in the camp kitchen, while everyone was having dinner we saw Flying Foxes starting to head out for the night, it started out as an orderly line and within a few minutes the whole sky was covered in Flying Foxes, we had never seen so many in one group. After more socialising as only Ulyssians can it was time to heads for bed. The Sunday saw a beautiful day dawn with another huge cook up in the Camp Kitchen, and then we planned the day which was to go to Evans Head for a look and MacLean for Lunch. The ride down to Evans Head was most enjoyable somehow I ended up ride leader again which saw us go to the Lookout at Evans Head which was an eye opener for those that had not been there before, from there we headed to Maclean for lunch, once again the café we stopped at was about to close and the same as 18 months before on one of our LABOUR day weekends they stayed open for us which we were most grateful. After another great lunch we made our way back to Casino, we went west form Maclean which saw us use the Ferry and make our way up Summerland Way which was a great ride where we had a bit of a play on the way back. That night we went to the Charcoal Inn for dinner where everyone had a great meal and a few more beverages and a great social night. The next day saw the usual pack up for those that the weekend had come to an end and had to back for the work the next day. We all went for breakfast at a bakery in town which everyone enjoyed and then it was time to head for home. 6 bikes and 3 cars lined up for the trip home. The route saw us travel from Casino to Kyogle, where we tempted to head up Lions Road until showers set in so we took the main road to Rathdowney, from there we went round through Boonah to Yamanto and in Springfield road to home, everyone had a fantastic weekend thank you very much to Northern Gateway Branch. Cheers, Russell Happy Hour Page 22 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter February 2014

29 Binna Burra Ride We had a small group of riders for this journey via Oxenford, heading up to Mt Tamborine for a stop and morning tea at a small café. Started up the bikes and headed south to Canungra. Then turned onto Beechmont Rd towards Beechmont, then onto Binna Burra Road to our final destination. As we preparing to leave, there was in the distance dark clouds making it s way near us, so decided to start making a quick getaway to Canungra for fuel. Did get slightly damp, but lucky we had wet weather gear. Said goodbye and heading on our wet and weary way home. Trish Page 29 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter February 2014

30 MAMA'S BIBLE Four brothers left home for college, and they became successful doctors and lawyers. One evening, they chatted after having dinner together. They discussed the 95th birthday gifts they were able to give their elderly mother who moved to Florida. The first said, "You know I had a big house built for Mama." The second said, "And I had a large theater built in the house." The third said, "And I had my Mercedes dealer deliver an SL600 to her." The fourth said, "You know how Mama loved reading the Bible and you know she can't read anymore because she can't see very well. I met this preacher who told me about a parrot who could recite the entire Bible. It took ten preachers almost 8 years to teach him. I had to pledge to contribute $50,000 a year for five years to the church, but it was worth it Mama only has to name the chapter and verse, and the parrot will recite it." The other brothers were impressed. After the celebration Mama sent out her "Thank You" notes. She wrote: Milton, the house you built is so huge that I live in only one room, but I have to clean the whole house. Thanks anyway." "Marvin, I am too old to travel. I stay home; I have my groceries delivered, so I never use the Mercedes. The thought was good. Thanks." "Michael, you gave me an expensive theater with Dolby sound and it can hold 50 people, but all of my friends are dead, I've lost my hearing, and I'm nearly blind. I'll never use it. Thank you for the gesture just the same." "Dearest Melvin, you were the only son to have the good sense to give a little thought to your gift. The chicken was delicious. Thank you so Love, Mama Page 30 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter February 2014
