3 Thursday 20 April 2017 Destination: Tannum Sands Distance: approx. 320 klms return Beginning Riders: Gary (Leader), David, Bruce W, Lyn, Bruce S, Ron, Steve, Wayne, Greg, Wayne Z, Wayne C, Carl, Ken, Phil. The day began a little differently with some filling out or at least trying to fill out where we might go from a list provided. Anyone s guess how many ticks some may have chosen to put in but all was taken in good spirits with Tannum Sands receiving the most ticks. So there we were, off to Tannum with Gary R, an Ex Tannum man, in the lead and we headed up the Rosedale Road with our first stop being Miriam Vale. Lyn and Bruce chose not to go the distance and left us for Rosedale. A couple of others chose not to start at all and enjoy whatever was happening at home or in Bundy. After a wee break at the Miriam Vale rest area, we headed up the highway, through the roadworks and onto Tannum Sands and the hotel for lunch. Soon we were all served and waiting for our lunches. The food was good and the usual conversation shared. If anyone was enlightened by the conversation, that was a bonus. Otherwise, it was all just good fun. Dave M left us at Bororen on the way up. All appeared well. We left and headed over to the BP garage where fuel was absorbed and we were on our way home. For some, this was non-stop while a few others enjoyed the excellent service and sweets at the Tiny Teahouse. It was a good day with a very light sprinkle (if you could even call it that) for a few seconds with good company. See you all soon. Ron H 3

4 PSYCHS ON BIKES RIDE Saturday 22 nd APRIL, 2017 River Cruz, Wallaville, Booyal, Degilbo, Biggenden, Brooweena, Maryborough, Apple Tree Creek, Bundaberg Neil & Jill C, Greg D, Wayne C, Fred A, Wayne Z, Joe Dunn and 5 other Psychs on Bikes team members Early in February, I got a text from Dr Joe Dunn of Psychs on Bikes about their planed annual ride, which this time, was going to include the South East and Mid-West of Queensland. Their ride this year was to start in Brisbane, go west out to Roma, north up to Emerald via Carnarvon Gorge, east to Biloela, and then back to Brisbane via Biggenden and the Sunshine Coast. Their rides are aimed at improving awareness about mental health in rural and remote communities across Australia. Dr Dunn (who is a Ulysses member) usually gets in contact with the various Ulysses branches that their ride will take them through, and request an escort by branch members as they pass through their branch area. As they were going to pass near Bundaberg, they contacted me and requested whether we were able to give then an escort through our area, which I indicated that we would be glad to. Initially Joe thought that they would be leaving Biloela at around 8.00am, which would see them arriving at Biggenden at around 11.00am. The plan was for us to escort them from Biggenden through to Tiaro via Mungar, having lunch at the Hideaway Hotel, but due to a media meeting that didn t finish until 9.00am, our plan change to having lunch at Biggenden, and then riding with them through to Maryborough. Seeing that we now had an extra hour before meeting up with the Psychs on Bikes team in Biggenden, after having breakfast at River Cruz café, we decided on a longer ride heading out via Gin Gin road and cutting down through Wallaville (with a short stop there in the park), and then continuing on to Biggenden via Booyal and Degilbo. A slight mess-up of where to meetup in Biggenden, saw us waiting at the Lions Park, as they went straight to the Commercial Hotel, but after a short while of waiting, a few of us rode around to the hotel, to find that that s where they were. Due to the hotels annual darts competition being held in the dining room, we ended up having lunch out the back in the beer garden, which is covered in case of rain, which we did have during our time there. During lunch, Dr Dunn gave us an insight into where their rides have taken them over the years, which covers just about every state and territory in Australia. They have also completed 2 rides across the Nullarbor. When we finished lunch, the hotel manager took a photo of the group before we mounted up and rode across to Maryborough via Brooweena. At Maryborough, Dr Dunn and the team continued south to the Sunshine Coast, as we returned back to Bundy via Apple Tree Creek, stopping in at Mollydookers on the way. A good ride, supporting a good cause, and although the weather was overcast, we managed to avoid the rain. Neil Cook Member

6 ANZAC Day - Woodgate 2017 A fine day saw several bikes and trikes assemble at Quay Street for the ride down to Woodgate, for the 2017 mid-morning ANZAC Day ceremony. As well as remembering the landing at Gallipoli 102 years ago, it is also a day on which we remember all Australians who served and died in war and on operational service. We departed Quay Street at 8.30am, and made our way out to Goodwood road, picking up a few more bikes / trikes along the way. The ride down to Woodgate was pretty much standard affair, with us arriving at the Memorial Community Park on the Esplanade at around 9.15am. As with all mid-morning ceremonies, it started with the parade march which was made up with active and returned service men, service women, family member s representing those who are no longer with us or unable to march, community service persons, and the Goodwood School students. This year, we did not have any members marching (namely Ian and Ross), as they were attending other ceremonies. Following the parade was the ceremony itself, where the flyover was made by a P51/D Mustang, making several runs along the Esplanade, and then a short while later, 3 x Bell B206 Kiowa Army helicopters also made a flyover as well. This year, Jill C laid a wreath on behalf of the Bundaberg Ulysses Branch. At the conclusion of the ceremony, everyone was invited to make their way over to the Woodgate Community hall for refreshments, steak & sausage sandwiches, as well as cold drinks before we mounted up and headed for home. The meeting agreed to invite members to generate profiles of ourselves and to publish these in the newsletter over a period of time. So what might you like to tell us? It is entirely up to you but you might like to share info about how long you have been riding, how many and what bikes have you owned, what was your favourite machine, do you have a dream machine, what draws you to riding and what draws you to riding and the Ulysses Club. You may like to share personal info like where have lived, where was your favourite ride. Most of all, it does not have to be long or complex. Keep it simple and easy reading. And write what you like. And a photo would be great! If you want some help, I am happy help you write your profile. We can do this over the phone or over lunch on a ride. Ron Funniest Biker Movie Quotes Doug Madsen: Oh boy, my ass is sore. Dudley Frank: Mine too. It s Woody s fault for riding us so hard yesterday. The human body wasn t made to straddle something that big for that long. 8
