Ride with pride, Cheryle Deborah Fabrizio Terry Slough Debbie Kohler Lawrence Magnani Jerry Townsley Linda Haske Justin Knight Ruth Carter John Kearney Tony Lysakovski Jr. Jerry Williams Eric Blomquist Rich Hull Birthday wishes go out to all our members who have recently celebrated or will soon be celebrating birthdays! Sorry if birthdays were omitted for this month. Please let us know so that we can update our information. I have seen it many times that May is motorcycle awareness month. Every month should be motorcycle awareness month. Not just May, as riders do ride, weather permitting, all year long. I do hope you are now enjoying the end of our rainy season and doing some riding now. There are plenty of group rides that happen for breakfast, lunch and just out riding having a good time. Remember, when riding the back roads or highways you 3 have to always keep a constant watch out for animals, cars, children and obstacles in the road. Cages really just come right out onto the road from a highway. They don't know what yield or merge means as they pull out and don't speed up a lot of times. People come out of driveways, side streets or parking lots and feel they have the right of way. On a three lane highway get in the middle lane because you don't have to deal with people coming on or getting off of the road. Then on a twolane highway, if you can, move over to let them on the road. There again, you have people who wait to the last minute to get over and don't give a damn and just come over and make people hit the brakes. Safety is the main concern when riding. In a group ride you have a lead and rear road captain to get you where you need to go safely. If you have a mechanical breakdown, the rear road captain will stop with you. If can't get going again, he or she will make sure that you will be eventually picked up. When on a group ride, remember to use hand signals so others behind the lead can see them and know what to expect on the ride. Before you ride check your tires, lights and if you have any luggage or anything strapped on your bike it is secured properly. I have seen saddle bag straps flapping around and almost getting caught in the rear tire. I was told once of someone who had a strap wrapped around rear tire so bad it had to be cut out. Safety is your concern also and to others. Your Safety Officer, Rich
4 You can me at: or call me at home: if you have any member information that needs tending to. Till we meet again, Carol Ann Hoeck If anyone is interested in looking at our tags on line you can go to s/speciality-plates/ organizational-sp.htm and scroll to Chesapeake. CAR TAGS: This part of the program has never gotten off the ground. 25 people have to be willing to sign up to submit the REQUEST for NEW tags. Since we already have CCH that would be for cars, trucks, vans, SUV s, RV s, 5 th wheels, etc. This would be the ONLY time you could request a number from Currently, I STILL need 12 people to volunteer their rides. The numbers available are: 4, 6, 11-17, 20, 24 & 25. The process for obtaining your tag remains the same. Contact me by smart phone at (410) or chesapeaketags@verizon.net I ll then send you an application. Fill it out, add a check payable to the MVA for $25 per tag, and return both to me. I will sign the application and send it to the MVA with your check. You ll receive your tag(s) in about 2 weeks as long as it s NOT addressed to a P.O. Box! Show your support of this Chapter (THE BEST) & get your tag(s) today! Questions or Problems? Please let me know so I can help resolve any issues that may arise. Thanks to you both for your help & support. Sincerely, Carol Ann (aka Schwartzy) Hello All, The rain didn t give us much of a break in May either. It has to break open soon, and when it does there will be bikers with cabin fever riding all over. This month (June) we have the Cecil Co. Drag show on the 11 th, a day of burnt rubber, food and bikes. June 12 th the C.O.P.S. ride leaves the Dealership at 8:30. The Fallen Officers of Harford County Ride has been rescheduled to the 18 th. The month of July has the Dealership closed on the 4 th. Pastor Rick s Ride to Havre de Grace for the Homeless of Harford County is July 9 th. I m sure there are a lot of other fun things that will be thrown in there. Have a great month. Kevin Criswell Hey! Hope everybody has a great time at the Rally. Just thinking, this is the third year in a row, it has rained during the Rally. What's up with that? Now my history thing. 4 Founded in 1780 by Benjamin Clark, a tavern and a house known as Clark's Corner. As most towns during this time, the railroad arrived in 1856 and Harrington, De. took off. In 1862 Harrington, De. was named after the Hon. Samuel M. Harrington, a former state chancellor of the Delaware Railroad. In the early 20th century, canning factories emerged to process local farm products and there were 4 clothing manufactures in town. In 1920 the Kent and Sussex County Fair was founded and in 1962 became the Delaware State Fair. The Fair brings Harrington 4 to 5 million dollars every year. In 1946 the Harrington Raceway opened, which remains the oldest continuously operating harness racetrack in the country. Slots opened in 1996 to support the failing harness racetrack. 12% of all slots revenue must support the horse racing industry. Despite the development and more to come, residents say Harrington manages to keep it's friendly atmosphere. Harrington, Delaware. Ride Safe, Al from the HEAD ROAD CAPTAIN Lots of great rides are scheduled for this season. Please sign up so the road captains have an idea how many riders to expect. Also, it is your responsibility to arrive 20 minutes ahead of the scheduled departure time with a full tank of gas. It is the plan of each Lead Road Captain to leave the starting area ON TIME for every ride. If you arrive after the advertised starting time you
5 may miss the ride. Please be on time. All road captains will have a detailed route for all rides about a week before the ride. If you have any questions about any of the planned routes call one of the road captains and they can help you. Come Ride with Us Mike Hoeck Cattle Drive 2016 (3 days / 2 nights) West Virginia August 26 th 28 th Smoke Hole Caverns and Log Cabin Resort Time for reserving your room has closed. We have a total of 63 people and 40 bikes signed up for the ride. The ride will depart from the ROYAL FARM store located at route 1 and route 543 at 7:30 am. Please arrive early to fill up with gas and use the restroom. There will be a breakfast stop along the way in Manchester. There will be no stops until we arrive at the restaurant. (About 2 hours) From there it will be about a 3 hour ride to Smoke Hole. We will stop along the way at two locations. The total ride from the Royal Farm store to Smoke Hole is about 215 miles. PLEASE ARRIVE AT ROYAL FARM BY 7:00AM Saturday Ride Options: Cass Railroad: We took this train ride several years ago on the West Virginia Fall Foliage ride. If you have never done this before and you love Steam Engines This is a must do. This train ride operates on a COG rail system that switchbacks itself up the mountain. I have taken this ride 3 times previously and I still enjoy the trip. We will leave Smoke Hole at 8:30 am on Saturday. The ride to Cass is about 1 ½ - 2 hours on beautiful West Virginia roads. The train ride is $37.00 per person and I will set it up for you to call and reserve your tickets with a credit card. Check it out at Blackwater Falls State Park: Located in beautiful Canaan Valley, this scenic destination is named for the falls of the Blackwater River whose amber-colored waters plunge five stories then twist and tumble through an eight mile long gorge. The Falls are one of the most photographed sites in West Virginia. There is a huge lodge, cabins and a restaurant on premise. Take hiking shoes with you Check it out at Both rides will also take in some West Virginia back roads that are the Best I have a signup sheet where you must make a choice. It will be on the table at the meetings, or may call me or text me with your decision. Come Ride with Us, Mike Hoeck Cattle Drive 2K16 Colorado New Mexico Arizona - Utah July 8 th thru July 30 th This is going to be a great trip and there is still time if you would like to join us our 2 nd meeting will be the end of May, and you need to attend that meeting if you want to come with us. The trip will take us 3 days in trucks and trailers to get to Colorado. After offloading the bikes, we will spend 17 days traveling approximately 4,000 miles through the southwest A trip of a lifetime with your HOG buddies - priceless. So far we have 10 people who have made their reservations: Mike & Carolann Hoeck / Jane Dunham / Joe & Jane Genovese / Don Morton & Debbie / Curt & Evie Nichols / Russ Ehly. If you are interested and would like more information, please call or text me Come Ride with Us, Mike Hoeck WE ARE TYRYING SOMETHING NEW We know that in our Harley family we have many talented and knowledgeable members. I have been approached at various times by members that would like to advertise to the membership about a service that they can offer to the members. These services are as varied as our members and may include but not be limited to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, small engine repair, financial and/or insurance advisor, and others. Their knowledge may benefit our
6 chapter members. After discussing this with the dealership it was decided that we would make an effort to advertise those various skills. Those members that may be interested in advertising their skills are asked to submit a business card and or a brief synopsis of their job description to me, and we will then devote a page in the newsletter for the various submissions. The only restriction will be that we will not advertise any motorcycle related items or services which are offered by Chesapeake Harley Dealership. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation. Vik CHAPTER PICNIC Our Annual Chapter Picnic is going to be held on September 24 th, from 1 till 6. The picnic will be held at Ron & Millie Parlett s as in the past years. There will be a sign up sheet at the chapter meetings in July, August, and September, as well as being able to sign up on the HOG line, and on Facebook.
