Form 7 Membership Application 10 Letter From The Chairman By Kurt Geis Well, having had a couple of weeks to look back and reflect, I would have to say that this year s benefit car show was a great success. In fact, you might say we blew them away, Literally! But, more about that later on in the newsletter. I have to admit, I am proud to be associated with the guys and gals of our chapter. The way we all came together on a typical breezy Kansas Saturday to hold our third annual All Corvette car show was great. With winds hitting over 40 mph (just a gentle Kansas breeze) everyone pitched in to make the show a big success. I want to give a couple of special thank you notes to some hard workers, not that all of us there didn t do our part. A special thanks to Dana and Midway USA Tune Up Kendra Keller for helping out with the cook-out part of the show. Although not members of the chapter, Daddy is, and what Daddy asks, sometimes the kids come thru. Thanks to Kerri Keller and Karin Geis for helping with registration. To Dallas Keller, for getting the tents ready. To Richard York and Phil Lorenz, for manning the grill in the less than favorable conditions. And to everyone else that I didn t mention, a great big THANKS for another successful show. Oh, yeah, did I forget to mention, we raised over $1,000 for the American Heart Association. Thanks to all the participants. The day after the show 11 of our members and their cars did our now annual road trip to the Lake Afton All Wheels Car show. This year the show featured the Corvette, in celebration of the 60 th year of continuous production. We had several members manning the chapter tent and passing out information on our chapter to interested parties. We even got one new member out of the event. The weather was great. Not too hot, and almost no wind. And this year, no rain! A good time was had by all. Now, on to more stuff. In July several of our members will be making the long trek to Hampton Beach, VA for the NCRS National Convention, July As would be expected, those of us that don t get to go will be expecting a full report of the activities at our August meeting. In August, our group will again be meeting off of the Davis -Moore property, at the club house for Dale Green s community for our annual chapter family picnic.

2 In August, our group will again be meeting off of the Davis -Moore property, at the club house for Dale Green s community for our annual chapter family picnic. As has been the case in the past, the chapter will be providing the meat, buns and condiments, and we are asking you to bring all the goodies that go with burgers and dogs. Dale and I will be trying our hand again at the grill, but don t want anyone to think we are trying to take the job away from Richard and Phil. In September the chapter will be holding our annual fall judging meet, once again at Davis-Moore Chevrolet. Registration forms have been ed, along with some typos so you can all fill them out. So far we have not received any car entries, other than one for a Sportsman display. If you know anyone that has a C2 or 3, or 4, or heck, we d even take a C1 if it keeps Roy happy, get them a registration form. I see from the document on the computer that I ve run out of room on page one, so, in order to have more room for pictures, I ll stop rambling and close with an invite to join us on July 13 at Davis-Moore Chevrolet for a more indepth rehash of the show and future events. 4 Third Time Is A Charm - By Kurt Geis The title is a bit misleading, because, in my opinion all three of our benefit All Corvette Car shows have been successes. But this year we set a goal of 100 Corvettes, and we only missed it by 6 cars, unless you count the 5 new, for sale cars Davis-Moore had nearby. Then, we missed it by one. Oh, and did I forget the 6 freeloader Corvettes that parked in the Home Depot parking lot next to the fence, popped their hoods open and pretended to be part of our show. WOW, we had 105. Yep, I m the guy looking for that pony in the room full of manure. =) In spite of the wind, we had a great turn-out for the show. We raised $940 in registration donations for the 94 official participants in the show. And, again, in spite of the wind everyone present had a great time. Where else in Kansas can you go to find that many fine examples of the car we so care for in one place, and all to benefit a great charity. After all, we all have hearts. OK, maybe some are a little rough or cold at times, but we all got one. This year I was smart enough to keep the list of the class winners. They are as follows; C-1: Gary Lock and Rick Mast C-2: Russ Mast and Gary Cochran C-3: Ron Boswell and Curt Rakestraw C-4: David Denver and Don Scobee C-5: Mike Walker and Monty Ranz C-6: Kevin Brown and Dale Barten Managers choice went to Mike Peitz with his 1977 coupe Dawson Grimsley pick, again, Manny Baley and his gorgeous 1963 coupe. In addition to the funds raised from entries, we also sold tickets for the chance to win a couple of very nice prizes, way to nice to give out as door prizes. Congrats to Dave Houlihan for the win of the Coleman portable grill. When ya gonna have us over to try it out, Dave? Now, before we get to the photos of the cars, let me pass on a great big thank you to the people that donated for door prizes and the cook-out. They are: Art s and Mary s Potato Chips (for the cook-out) A donor that wishes to remain anonymous (for the soft drinks and water) John Rupright (door prizes and trophy costs) Two Brothers BBQ Chipotle Mexican Grill (21 st and Maize Rd.) Not only does Davis-Moore allow us to use their facilities for our chapter events, but the staff also cleared the lot of all their stock and judged the cars at the show. Thanks Jeremy, Sean and all for the great big help. Oh, I almost forgot one little bit of humor for the day. At about 8:15 a gentleman drove into the lot, picked a spot and parked his very nice Maroon car. I was kind and told him unless he could show me where the car had been built by GM in either St. Louis or Bowling Green he needed to leave. He got a bit upset, and as he drove off in his 1970 FORD Gran Torino sport he mumbled something about Corvette owners always thinking they were better than the rest, and a few other choice words. I m still scratching my head trying to figure out what his point was. Now, without further ado, here s a select few of the cars at the show. 6 The June 2013 monthly meeting was held on the 8th and called to order shortly after 9 AM by the chapter Chairman, Kurt Geis. There were a whole bunch of people there! Chapter Business: June Meeting Minutes - Midway USA Chapter of NCRS, Inc. Minutes Prepared By Chapter Secretary Jim Coote The business meeting was held in the parking lot of Davis-Moore Chevrolet, our sponsor, prior to our third annual "All Corvette Car Show" that would run from 11 AM to 3 PM. Kurt asked Dallas Keller, our treasurer how much money we had, and he replied, "Lots". After a slight pause, Dallas said, "$2,180.62, plus our savings of $100." Dallas also said our club banners were paid for, as well as the food for the car show and most of the other expenses associated with today's event. We have received a check from NCRS foundation for $447 for the Heart Association as a result of last years fund raisers. Kurt reminded those members who will have a car in the show that the registration fee is $10, with the proceeds again going to the American Heart Association. Checks should be made out to Midway USA, not NCRS. Member's cars will not be in the running for any of the awards as it just wouldn't look good to non-members. Coleman really kicked in on the door prizes this year. Among them is a Coleman Stove which Kurt thought too much for a door prize, so suggested that we raffle that out to make even more money for our charity. That idea went over big, especially to the winner! Dale Green, the club's untitled "official photographer", was at his post ready to document most everything that would go on. Expect a colorful representation in the July news letter. Kurt was going to give a crash course to the Davis-Moore sales staff on the appearance differences of the six Corvette classes as they were the judges in this event. Knowing Kurt's propensity to verbalize, we may not see him again this morning! New Business: In July, expect a recap of the June "All Corvette Car Show", done in Kurt's inimitable style, whatever that means. August means it is time for our annual picnic, again to be held at Cathy and Dale Green's homeowner's club house on our regular meeting day, August 10th. The business meeting will start at 10:30 AM, followed by the picnic. Count on bringing a side dish or desert to share. More instructions and directions to follow. September will be a chapter judging meet, limited to two cars, probably neither of which will be owned by our chapter members. No final decisions have been made yet as to what the cars will be. Dale Green advised that the NCRS did an upgrade on their website which adversely affected ours, but he will be doing his best to fix and improve it soon. What would we do without Dale? (Kent, be ready-just in case) At some point, Ed Arnold looked over my shoulder at my notes and said, "I didn't think he'd (Kurt) said that much". Sometimes you have to read between the lines! Actually, he said more than what I wrote down, but the wind gusts of 37 mph blew a lot of it away. The meeting was over at 9:19 and we all went back to work to prepare the parking lot for the car show in our newly acquired Chapter Blue shirts that matched Kurt's '72 blue Vette!
