1 Monthly Report
2 Chief s Corner The final prepara ons have been completed this month for our transfer of police dispatch to West Suburban. Staff has worked extremely hard to make sure all aspects of the change have been addressed. The switch will take place on November 5th at 10 a.m. An Incident Ac on Plan has been implemented for the cutover on November 5th. The annual Ci zen Patrol Apprecia on Banquet was held on October 9. Mayor Schmidt a ended and thanked the Ci zen Patrol for all they do for our City. The event was well a ended by the Ci zen Patrol and Police staff. Staff par cipated in the memorial service for State Trooper Erin Sweeney on October 30. The overpass at Route 55 and Kingery Road was dedicated to Trooper Sweeney. Our new Power DMS system went into opera on this month. This system automates the issuance, review, storage and acknowledgement of our direc ve system. In other words we have moved from a paper to an automated system. This system will be a significant me saver for our administra ve staff. Staff coordinated events for both the Maine South and Maine East Homecoming. Both ac vi es went well. There are several community outreach events that included the following: two Coffee with the Cops, par cipated in the Fire Department Open House, Chamber recycling event, Mary, Seat of Wisdom 5k run, Senior Breakfast and Library Story me. Other ac vi es included the following * A ended the IACP conference * Assisted in the LGH Paramedic Course review team * Met with the Police Chaplains * A ended the School Safety Commi ee mee ng * Met with CERT leadership 2

4 Traffic Enforcement Traffic Selec ve Enforcement at the following loca ons: Home and Crescent 4 ckets, Cumberland and Gillick 13 ckets, Talco and Hamlin 4 ckets. Sent out warning le ers to motorists who violated traffic laws in school zones and parking ordinances. Spoke to a traffic violator as a result of a resident complaint, and gave warning if further viola ons persist he will be issued ckets. Ordered pedestrian crosswalk signs for the Talco and Hamlin Maine South crossing. Spoke to resident regarding selec ve enforcement at Home and Crescent and crosswalk markings in the intersec on. I referred her to the City Engineer. Called complainant in reference to a speed study conducted on Cu riss and informed him that the results do not warrant a selec ve enforcement. Conducted a speed study at 1100 S. Crescent. The results do not jus fy a selec ve enforcement, so the original complainant contacted and informed of the results. Received posi ve feedback from complainant regarding traffic issues on Cedar and Knight where the speed trailer was redeployed. Spoke to resident about a speed study that was conducted at the 500 block of Elmore. The results to not jus fy a selec ve enforcement. 20 signs displaying Children Play Here Please Drive Safely were passed out to the resident. Speed study conducted at Frances and Grace. The results do not jus fy a selec ve enforcement. The complainant was informed and is now reques ng yield signs. The City Engineer has been contacted. Follow up calls placed to resident who referenced speeding autos at the 1500 Manor. Follow up with complainant regarding cars not stopping for the school bus stop arm on Thorndale and Linden area. Observa- on conducted nega ve results. The a ernoon patrol shi was no fied to check for a ernoon viola ons, none were observed. Grants The Thanksgiving grant will start November 17 th. Overweight Truck Permits Approved 5 Overweight Truck Permits Generated $23, in Overweight Truck Fines Red Speed 232 total Red Speed viola ons, 72 approved Miscellaneous Par cipated in a railroad detail at Dee and the railroad tracks with the Union Pacific Railroad. Spoke to a resident in reference to a suspicious auto with nted windows. Met with Ed Graham in reference to changing the Uptown warning signs for skate boarders, roller blades, and bikes. In order to make the signs uniform, a new sign was created and has to be submi ed for approval from the City Engineer. We also discussed ordering amber lights that would go on top of the school zone signs at Talco and Hamlin. Approval from the City Engineer is needed. A ended District 64 Traffic Safety mee ng. The principal of Carpenter School requested stop signs for the intersec on of Broadway and Cherry. Discussion with City Engineer in progress. Inves gated mul ple hit and runs, and solved a hit and run with res tu on being given to vic m. 4
