5 On Monday 24 th April over two hundred women, children, men and brethren packed into the Purbrook Masonic Centre for the fourth South East Area annual charity cheque presentation evening. The Assistant Provincial Grand Master for the area, Mark Mills-Goodlet welcomed everyone to the event, including the Mayor of Havant Councillor Faith Ponsonby and her consort Michael, and our Provincial Grand Master R.W.Bro. Mike Wilks and his wife Kay. Both the PGM and the Mayor of Havant then addressed those present bestowing the good work that Freemasonry does in the community. Each charity was called up to receive their cheque and were also given two minutes to promote their charitable work and giving us an insight into the tremendous work that they carry out for those in distressed circumstances. The Area APGM closed the evening with a short speech and then carried out his own Ninja moment on the PGM by presenting him with a cheque for 2, for his chosen charity Lifelites. This money was raised by a number of lodges within the area. In total fifty one cheques totalling 49, was given away on the evening which drew gasps and a huge round of applause from all those present. The formalities closed at 9.30pm and the Mayor of Havant departed thoroughly uplifted by the generosity that she had witnessed from members of the Craft.

8 Spinnaker Lodge s First On the Water Meeting Over 70 brethren, wives and partners travelled by yacht, motor boat and ferry to Cowes Yacht Haven on Saturday 6th May to attend the first Spinnaker Lodge 9932 on the water meeting. The Lodge was created to accommodate all those interested in yachting and boating and the May meeting was a huge success, with 14 boats moored in the marina and most of those attending arrived by water. The highlight of the Lodge meeting was a double ceremony when the two recently initiated members, Bros Micki Barron and Josh Denver were passed to the Second Degree. The meeting was followed by a white table when wives and partners joined the members at a most enjoyable Festive Board. After the meal, the Junior Warden, Bro Adam Harvey, gave a short talk about the origins of the spinnaker sail and the Charity Steward, W Bro Colin Monkman presented a cheque for 250 to a representative of the Portsmouth Sail Training Trust. A drinks reception followed, which was held at the Royal London Yacht Club and was an excellent way of new members getting to know each other. Spinnaker Lodge is one of the newly consecrated special interest lodges, joining Football Lodge, Rugby Bastion Lodge, Chequered Flag Lodge etc. in attracting members with a shared interest in a particular sport or interest. The Lodge has so far attracted new members from afar afield as Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and London. This Friday will see the Provincial Grand Master RW Bro Mike Wilks consecrate the Motorcycle Lodge which will bring the number of special interest lodges in this Province to seven. For further information, please contact the Lodge Secretary, Mike Slack at secretary@spinnaker9932.com

9 Motorcyclist s Lodge No is consecrated Friday 12th saw the consecration of the Motorcyclist s Lodge. The event was held at the Novotel, Southampton and over 200 freemasons, some arriving on motorbikes, attended. The Motorcyclist s Lodge, which will meet in Farnborough will combine freemasonry with the love of motorcycling, by holding a lodge meeting followed by a ride-out to various locations around the province, weather conditions permitting! It is the sixth specialist lodge formed in the last five years under the leadership of the Provincial Grand Master, Mike Wilks. The others are a scouting lodge, rugby lodge, motorsports lodge, football lodge and sailing lodge. Its first master, Paul Haynes, said: As a keen motorcyclist, I am looking forward to recruiting new members to the Lodge and sharing experiences with fellow biking enthusiasts. PGM and the Brethren of the new lodge More pictures from this event and many more can be viewed on our Flickr site:

12 Hampshire & IoW donate 10,000 to Manchester Bombing Victims In the wake of the recent Manchester bombing the Province of East Lancashire has started an appeal to support the family and victims of this atrocity. The Provinces of East Lancashire and West Lancashire kicked off the appeal by both donating 10,000 and at yesterday s Provincial Cabinet meeting it was decided that our Province would match this with a donation of 10,000 on behalf of all the Masons in Hampshire and Isle of Wight. A number of other Provinces have also made significant donations towards this appeal. Freemasonry at its best!
