2 OCB FATAL FOR 2010 THERE ARE NINETEEN FATALITIES YEAR TO DATE FOR OPERATIONS-CENTRAL BUREAU OCB FATAL # 1 On January 18, 2010, at approximately 8:10 p.m., hours, fifteen-year-old Wendy Sandoval a resident of Los Angeles was crossing southbound Vernon Avenue midblock, when vehicle-1, westbound on Vernon Avenue collided into her. Victim was transported to California Hospital and treated for a fractured left tibia and a large hematoma to her forehead. Victim died while in surgery. Victim was in violation of (a) VC, Jaywalking. This case was rejected by the District Attorney s Office. OCB FATAL #2 On January 18, 2010, at approximately 10:20 p.m., nineteen year-old Jesus Alberto Lopez, a resident of Hollenbeck Area was racing northbound on Griffin Avenue at a high rate of speed, when he lost control of his 2002 Ford Mustang and collided with a light standard, a concrete wall and an iron fence. The impact between the fix objects and Lopez vehicle resulted in the death of his nineteen-year-old female passenger Estephani Orduna, a resident of Los Angeles. This case was rejected by the District and City Attorney. OCB FATAL # 3 On January 27, 2010, at approximately 2:40 p.m., thirty-nine-year-old Juventino Santos Alvarado, a resident of Los Angeles drove his 2002 Ford Expedition into his driveway near the intersection of Long Beach and Vernon Avenue, where he accidentally ran over his two-year-old daughter, Shirley Lucas. Victim was transported to USC Medical Center where she died as a result of her injuries. Mr. Alvarado was not under the influence of any drugs or alcohol. This case will be presented to the District Attorney s Office for review. OCB FATAL #4 On January 31, 2010, at approximately 1205 hours, fifty-seven-year-old Teresa Andrea Solis was driving her 2006 Toyota Camry southbound on Soto Street, when she negotiated a u-turn from eastbound City View Avenue colliding with thirty-year-old Manuel Arreola riding his 2004 Yamaha Motorcycle southbound on Soto Street. Victim was transported to USC Medical Center where he died as a result of his injuries. Ms. Solis was not under the influence of any drugs or alcoholic beverage. This case was rejected by the District Attorney s Office.
3 OCB FATAL #5 NORTHEAST AREA On February 2, 2010, at approximately 1910 hours, forty-six-year-old Los Angeles resident Jose Jesus Sandoval buys junk cars and he answered an aid for the sale of a used 1986 Honda from Party-2, Gustavo Rodriguez. Sandoval said he drove his tow truck to Hoover Street and Santa Monica Boulevard, and Rodriquez directed him to and alley, located at Wit Place east of Manzanita. Once at the location Rodriquez produced a gun, turned off the engine to vehicle-1 and attempted to rob Sandoval. Sandoval stated to Rodriguez that the truck would blow up because he was carry gas canister on the rear compartment of the truck. At which time Rodriguez exited the truck and Sandoval drove from the scene, running over Rodriguez. Sandoval called 911 to report the incident. He also went to 77 th Division and attempted to report the crime with negative results. Northeast Detectives responded to the scene and investigated what they thought was a gunshot victim. Northeast Detectives contacted CTD after the autopsy determined Rodriguez died as a result of blunt force trauma. Upon viewing photographs of Rodriguez injuries, CTD Detectives determined that Rodriguez injuries were the result of a traffic collision as confirmed by Party-1. This investigation will be presented to the District Attorney s Office for review. OCB FATAL # 6 On February 14, 2010, Party-1 and his passenger were robbing street vendors of their Valentine baskets, when they fled from the police and collided with parked vehicles. Party-1 and his passenger were ejected from vehicle-1 and died at scene. This report was taken by the SCID Team and the investigation is ongoing, pending the autopsy results. OCB FATAL #7 On February 18, 2010, thirty-three-year-old Jorge O. Sandoval Gutierrez, a resident of Los Angeles was driving his 1997 Honda Accord at a high rate of speed northbound on Eastern Avenue at Klamath Street, when he lost control and crossed over into the opposing lanes of traffic colliding with vehicle-2. Party-1 died at scene. This investigation is ongoing, pending the autopsy results. OCB FATAL #8 On February 27, 2010, at 0650 hours Party-1 (Charles Pickett), forty-four-year-old resident of Los Angeles was driving his 1997 GMC Safari Van, when he collided with Party-2 at the intersection of Broadway and Vernon Avenue. Party-1 fled from the scene and collided with a parked vehicle at the intersection of 54 th Street and Broadway. Party-1 was ejected from his vehicle and died at scene. Party-1 s passenger, a nineteen female suffered a fractured rib. This investigation is ongoing pending the autopsy results.
4 OCB FATAL #9 On March 4, 2010, seventy-six-year-old Raymond Abraham, a visiting professor from New York was driving his rental 2009 Honda Civic northbound on Main Street approaching 5 th Street, when he ran the red tri-light signal and collided with an MTA Bus, westbound on 5 th Street. Victim died at scene as a result of his injuries. This investigation is ongoing pending the autopsy results. OCB FATAL #10 On March 20, 2010, 57 year old Rudolpin Lampkin, was walking eastbound on Midway Place when he was fatal struck by a hit and run vehicle traveling southbound Midway Place. At this time the description of the hit and run vehicle is unknown and the case is being investigated by CTD Detectives. Detective are waiting for DNA result from suspect s vehicle. OCB FATAL #11 On March 29, 2010, at 0300 hours fifty-nine-year-old Carlos Perez a resident of Whittier was crossing westbound on Alameda Street at Hunter Street outside of the crosswalk, when he was struck by a dark colored vehicle southbound on Alameda Street. Party-1 fled the scene without providing aid to the victim. Victim died at scene. This investigation is ongoing. OCB FATAL #12 On March 30, 2010, at 0915 hours, eight-five-year-old Henry Roman was crossing southbound on Boyle Avenue, when he was struck by Party-1 Hilario Sanchez driving his 2005 Honda Civic northbound on Boyle Avenue negotiating a left turn to westbound 4 th Street. Victim died at scene as a result of his injuries. On March 31, 2010, the City Attorney filed one count of 192 ( C), Misdemeanor Manslaughter. OCB FATAL #13 RAMPART AREA On April 4, 2010, at 1955 hours, Party-1, Edward Vincent Mejia, a resident of Los Angeles was driving his 2008 Kia Spectra northbound on Alvarado Street at Montrose Street, when he collided with thirty-one-year-old Alvaro Hernandez crossing westbound outside of the crosswalk. Victim was taken to USCMC where he died on April 5, 2010, at 0018 hours as a result of his injuries. DA reject. OCB FATAL #14 On April 21, 2010, seventy-five-year-old Cerelilna Osorio Natavidad, a resident of Los Angeles was driving her 1973 Buick northbound on Figueroa Street approaching Temple Street, when sixty-four year-old Ester Zano, a resident of Los Angles ran into the path of vehicle. Victim was transported to USCMC where she died as a result of her injuries. DA reject.
5 OCB FATAL #15 RAMPART AREA On April 25, 2010, at approximately 1905 hours, Party-1 Elena Garcia, a seventy-two-year-old Los Angeles resident was driving her 1993 Geo Prizm Geo eastbound on 6 th Street when she drove off the roadway and collided with a control signal. The signal fell and collided with thirtyseven-year Los Angeles resident Maria Rosales DeTovar. Victim died at scene. Party-1 claimed brake failure. This investigation is ongoing pending vehicle inspection and victim s autopsy. OCB FATAL #16 On May 11, 2010 at approximately 1506 Hrs, sixty-two-year-old Joseph Buckman, a resident of Beverly Hills was crossing Los Angeles Street in a southeast direction outside of the crosswalk when he was struck by a Ford F-350 that was traveling southbound on Los Angeles Street. Buckman was transported to LAC USC Medical Center where he died as a result of his injuries. This investigation is ongoing. OCB FATAL #17 On May 23, 2010, at 1015 hours, Party-1, Moises Elias Medrano Gutierrez, a resident of Los Angeles was backing his 2001 Ford Escape westbound on private property (parking lot), at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Soto Street, when he ran over fifty-two-year-old Luis Blanco walking southbound on private property. Victim was transported to USC Medical Center is critical condition. Victim died on May 24, This investigation is ongoing pending the autopsy results. OCB FATAL # 18 RAMPART AREA On June 6, 2010, twenty-seven year old was driving southbound on Vermont Avenue, at Marathon Street, when she collided with a parked vehicle. Victim died at scene. Victim possibly fell asleep. This investigation is ongoing pending the autopsy results. OCB FATAL #19 On June 6, 2010, victim was riding his bicycle on Sierra Street at Roberta Street, when party-1 on the wrong side of the roadway collided into him. Victim was transported to USC Medical Center where he died as a result of his injuries. This case will be presented to the District Attorney s Office for review.
6 THERE ARE SEVENTEEN FATALITIES YTD IN OPERATIONS CENTRAL BUREAU 1. -Fifteen-year-old victim was jaywalking when she was struck by vehicle Nineteen-year-old victim, a passenger in vehicle-1 died when Party-1 collided with fix objects 3. -Two-year-old victim died when her father accidentally ran over her. 4. -Thirty-year-old victim died when vehicle-1 made a U-Turn in front of him. 5. NORTHEAST AREA- forty-two-year victim attempted to rob Party-1 at gun point and was ran over by vehicle Party-1 robbed street vendors on Valentine s Day and fled from the police. Party-1 collided with parked vehicles and was ejected from vehicle-1 along with his passenger. Both died at scene Thirty-three-year-old victim was driving at a high rate of speed, when he lost control of his 1997 Honda Accord, crossed over into the opposing lanes of traffic and collided with vehicle-2. Victim died at scene Party-1, a forty-four-year-old resident was fleeing from a hit and run vehicle, when he collided with a parked vehicle. Party-1 was ejected and died at scene. His nineteen-year-old passenger suffered a fractured rib and was hospitalized. 9. -Party-1 was driving northbound on Main Street approaching 5 th Street, when he ran the red tri-light signal and collided with an MTA Bus. Victim died at scene Fifty-seven-year male was walking eastbound on Midway Place was struck by a hit and run driver Fifty-nine-year-old male was struck by a hit and run driver as he crossed the street at Alameda Street and Hunter Street. Victim died at scene Eighty-five-year-old male was struck by party-1 as he crossed southbound on Boyle Avenue. 13. RAMPART AREA- Thirty-one-year-old male was struck by vehicle-1 as he crossed westbound Alvarado outside of the crosswalk.
7 14. -Seventy-five year female was driving her vehicle northbound on Figueroa Street approaching Temple Street, when sixty-eight-year-old victim ran into the path of her vehicle. Victim died at USCMC. 15. RAMPART AREA-Seventy-two-year-old female ran off the roadway and collided with victim on the sideway. Victim died at scene sixty-two-year-old male was struck by a truck as he crossed in a southeast direction on Los Angeles Street outside of the crosswalk Fifty-two-year-old male was stuck by a vehicle backing westbound on private property at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Soto Street.
