2 ABOUT ZIPS The Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply (ZIPS) was established by an Act of Parliament No. 15 of 20 th September, It was officially launched by the then Minister of Finance and National Planning through a Statutory Instrument (S.I.) number 34 dated 1 st April, The ZIPS Act is the official Government Policy on the Purchasing and Supply Management Profession in Zambia. The Institute is a Regulatory Authority on matters of Ethics and Conduct of Procurement practioners and students. The functions of the Institute are to:- Conduct the training of persons in Purchasing and Supply Management. Raise the standards of Purchasing and Supply Management as a means of increasing productivity and efficiency and promote cost reduction. Promote, uphold and improve the standards of training and Professional ability of persons engaged in Purchasing and Supply Management. Conduct Research related to Purchasing and Supply Resource Management in Zambia. Register, Regulate and affiliate persons or firms to membership of the Institute. ZIPS has more than 3,500 members drawn from across all industries and sectors in the economy. ZIPS membership comprises Fellows (the highest membership level), Corporate Members, Associates, Affiliates and Students. In order to increase accessibility of the profession by interested Zambians, the Institute has introduced a local professional qualification in purchasing and Supply Management. This is in response to the growing demand from practitioners and industry Services offered ZIPS offers the following services to both its members and the public: The ZIPS education program in conjunction with various colleges and universities, and other joint professional and academic education programs Short-term training in response to industry needs, such as procurement refresher courses and staff training to impart critical supply chain skills Local and international procurement related consultancy and research Supply chain institutional capacity building and leadership training.
