Wall-Badlands Area Chamber of Commerce Board President Jackie Kusser presented the 2018 State of the Association. In her presentation Kusser discussed the chambers accomplishments over the past year. Wall-Badlands Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kelsey Clark presented the Director s Report and 2017 Year in Review. In her report Clark recognized the work completed by the five active chamber committees and discussed 2018 committee goals. Clark also revealed a new mission statement and vision statement for the organization. The vision statement for the organization is The Wall-Badlands Area Chamber of Commerce provides active leadership to promote and advocate business growth to make Wall a proud and dynamic community. The mission statement for the organization is The Wall-Badlands Area Chamber of Commerce proudly serves its members by acting as a liaison in the promotion of business, tourism and community growth. 2 The chamber board recognized the work completed by individuals and organizations throughout 2017 and 2018 by the presentation of awards. Minuteman Missile National Historic Site, Wall Meat Processing Plant and Best Western Plains Motel all received Business Improvement Awards. Anita Heathershaw and Jackie Roseth were recognized for their work within the Wall School District with the Teacher of the Year Award. Christi Michael has displayed exceptional customer service over the years and was awarded the 2018 Golden Pineapple Award. Mayor Marty Huether presented Wayne Davis with the 2018 Volunteer of the Year award. Jonny Winn-Holsether and Juanita Schroeder were awarded the first ever Friend of the Chamber for spending many hours working in the chamber office as temporary employees and assisting in training a new executive director. Ann Kitterman was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for her many years of service to the Wall-Badlands Area Chamber of Commerce and the Wall community. The chamber board of directors sincerely congratulates all award winners! The chamber was joined in celebrating 50 years of excellence with two Guest Speakers. The first was Black Hills and Badlands (BH&B) Tourism Association President/CEO Michelle Thomson followed by South Dakota Secretary of Tourism Jim Hagen. Thomson presented regional marketing strategies, Wall Chamber advertisements through BH&B and how tourism impacts the economy in the community, region and state. Hagen presented unique marketing strategies being executed by the SD Dept. of Tourism, a rise in travel indicators for 2018 and the growing trend of people moving to SD after a vacation to the state, which is known as the Halo Effect. I am very happy with the overall turnout of the event, said Wall-Badlands Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kelsey Clark, the chamber board has received positive feedback from all those in attendance. Out of town visitors were impressed with the chamber for hosting a formal event and having great attendance from community members. The Wall-Badlands Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to celebrate 50 years of excellence in the Wall community and looks forward too many more years of service! Continued on page 3
