-ATV Rides For Good Causes -Fun Club Rides & Work Days Coming Up -Invite Friends & Family To Join ATVAM ATVAM Named "Association of the Year" "This year's Association Of The Year Award goes to ATVAM!" exclaimed Marc Hildesheim, project manager with the National Off- Highway Vehicle Conservation Council (NOHVCC). NOHVCC recognized 8 individuals and organizations at its Celebration & Awards Dinner, held August 18, 2018, during the NOHVCC Annual Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The awards are presented in recognition of outstanding achievements that have advanced the NOHVCC mission: "Creating a Positive Future for OHV Recreation." "ATVAM continues to be a source of leadership in the OHV community in Minnesota. From sponsoring OHV workshops and educational development, to

coordinating and conducting trail maintenance, ATVAM can always be depended upon," said Hildesheim. "This award is for all the ATVAM clubs and their members, who work hard to make Minnesota's ATV trails the best in the country." Pictured at the ATVAM/DNR quarterly meeting (LtoR), Perry May, 2nd VP; Erv Kleinschmidt, treasurer; George Radke, president; Ron Potter, 1st VP. Photo by Ken Irish. Ron Potter, ATVAM 1st Vice President, accepted the award at the conference. And on August 28th, he presented it to the ATVAM board members attending ATVAM's quarterly meeting with the Parks & Trails Division of the Minnesota DNR. "All ATVAM clubs and their members should feel proud, because this award is their award," said Potter. ATVAM has partnered with NOHVCC on major projects for many years. In the past 3 years, ATVAM has worked with NOHVCC and the Minnesota DNR to hold Great Trails Workshops in Akeley, Biwabik and Onamia. ATVAM sponsored this year's Workshop, and worked with NOHVCC's program managers to tailor it to Minnesota, including discussions on mitigating wetlands. For more information on NOHVCC, see it's new website at Mary Straka Receives INOHVAA Hall of Fame Award

Mary Straka received the Hall of Fame Award from Chris Gamache, INOHVAA Chair. Photo courtesy of NOHVCC. Mary Straka, OHV Trail Consultant with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources -- and the "go-to" person at the DNR that ATVAM clubs look to for help with for everything from trail planning to funding and construction -- has received the 2018 Hall of Fame Award from the International Off-Highway Vehicle Administrators Association. The award was presented during the joint conference of INOHVAA and the National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council (NOHVCC), held August in Grand Rapids, Michigan. "In 2018, we are recognizing one of our valued members for her years of dedicated work, leading the INOHVAA Trail Committee as its Chair for several years, and also leading the process to develop a Trail Signing Guideline for OHV Trails," said Chris Gamache, INOHVAA Chair and Chief of the New Hampshire Bureau of Trails. "Mary Straka works as an OHV Trail Consultant with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and has been part of their Parks and Trails Division for many years. She has been an active member of INOHVAA for more than 6 years and has been Chair of the Trails Committee for over 5 years. "Mary is very passionate about trails and is always looking to find solutions to OHV trail issues. After the Trails Committee was tasked with working on an OHV Trail Signing Guideline, to be developed in conjunction with the International Association of Snowmobile Administrators and the U.S. Forest Service, she has been relentless in her leadership of the committee to complete the task. This year, that leadership resulted in a Guideline being adopted by the OHV Administrators.

A cake at the quarterly meeting of ATVAM and the DNR, was presented to congratulate ATVAM and Mary Straka on their national awards. Photo by Ken Irish. "Mary is a shining example of what can be accomplished when passion, dedication and knowledge all come together. "INOHVAA is proud to name Mary Straka as our Hall of Fame Award winner for 2018." From the ATVAM board, ATVAM clubs and their members, ATVAM sponsors, and ATV riders across Minnesota: Congratulations Mary! INOHVAA is a professional, non-political advocacy association. Its membership represents organizations of motorized, wheeled recreational vehicles, and is comprised of administrators and managers of state OHV programs and agencies. Its goals are to increase communications across states and agencies regarding OHV recreation, to work together regarding OHV issues and new technology, to provide sustainable and quality OHV trail systems and areas, and to keep OHV enthusiasts safe. Learn more at Three Weeks Will Go Fast! Register Today And Make Plans For The Fall Ride & Rally (New to ATVAM? First time at the Rally? Do whatever it takes to get there...it's great!)

How To Get There: Some people have asked for directions to the Ride & Rally. We found that if you "Google" Highway 41 (instead of County Road 41) you'll see good directions. Provide Your Input On A Proposed Trail

In Southern Minnesota (where more trails are badly needed) By Taking This Short Survey A map of the Master Plan is shown on the survey, with questions about how the trail should be designated. your response to the following short survey will help blaze a trail! From Freeborn/Waseca Counties: Freeborn and Waseca Counties are exploring the potential of connecting the cities of Albert Lea and Waseca with a regional trail. The trail would utilize an abandoned railroad line that parallels highway 13 and connects the cities of Albert Lea, Manchester, Hartland, New Richland and Waseca. Ultimately, the goal would be for this regional link to connect two State trails - the Blazing Star State Trail and the Sakatah Singing Hills State Trail. We need your help to envision what this trail should look like, how it would best serve the residents of Freeborn and Waseca Counties, and how it can attract Tourists to our area. We are looking several different ways to use this regional link, and Take an easy 12-question survey that asks how the trail should be developed and what user groups should be able to use it, at this link: Prairie Thunder Is Coming
